From JamesR - Burgundian Billmen, Chasseurs a Cheval, and a Ringwraith (185 Points)

I managed to finish up a pack of guys and finally break my goal.  I don't think I have time to make a new goal of 1250.

First are eleven of those plastic Perry medieval miniatures, that everyone has been painting up.  They saw their first action in a game of Lion Rampant last weekend.

Here they are running away, just like they did in their first battle.  When playing Lion Rampant don't let your troops get caught in rough ground, by ferocious troops.

 

Here's a couple guys beating on tambourines.

Here are eleven Perry metal Chasseur a Cheval.  I loved painting them and my only complaint is the swords are metal and will likely be mangled by the end of their first battle. I constantly bent the stupid things while painting them.

Here they are running away from my sword bending fingers.  I base most of my cavalry on a mix of single and multiple bases.  It allow some ease of movement, with the ability to use the minis in a skirmish game.

Here's one the GW LotR Ringwraith minis.  I wish I had a few hundred of these guys, they paint so fast I could double my score in a week.  It's a extremely versatile miniature that can be used in all manner of games.

Here he is as a French Officer leading a cavalry charge into some disorganized billmen.

 

"Chargez!  Ecrasez-lez!"

From JamesR - French Line Grenadiers and Random Minis (84 points)

I've managed to paint half a small unit of Perry plastic French Grenadiers.  Here you can see the 13 of them marching somewhere.

Another angle of them still marching.  I frequently force march my French, because I am a cruel emperor.

I only painted two poses; the ones in their supposedly great coats.

The Perry plastic box has four poses of marching Grenadiers (or Voltiguers); I'll paint the two poses without said coats on, next.  There are two back pack options which will give the finished unit eight minor model variations.

 

I painted a few other minis too.  Some sort of thief or assassin, most likely from Ral Partha or Grenadier.  A John Conner model of unknown origin, whose face I ruined with drunken highlighting. It says John Conner on his base.  There's also two LotR GW Rohan leaders.

I found the two Rohan in a FLGS bits bin.  Eowyn's sword is managled and Eomir's is missing.  I'm going to pretend it's the invisible Elfin blade, Loirleilei.  Loirleilei is only mentioned once very briefly in the Silmarillion, one of the really awful back chapters that no one really reads, trust me.

From the back, it looks as it Eomir is waving a chocolate ice cream cone.  I've been meaning to give a friend this little terrain piece for many moons.

No!  The evil bad assassin is going to kill humanity's last hope.  Stop now, or you'll go on a forced march!

James you always provide great work and an enjoyable read (though your 'love and kisses' closings makes me twitch a bit).  You know there's few things worse than an assassin who is both evil AND bad. Or perhaps you meant he's bad in the sense that he's not very good at being an assassin?  One thing for sure is that a polyester/twill two piece is BOTH bad and evil...

Also, I see that you've met your Challenge points target. Congratulations!  Now, go take your boys on a celebratory forced march, you cruel, heartless emperor you.  (And when you return let me know what you'd like to target for our last few weeks.) 

From JamesR - 28mm Prussian Landwehr Cavalry (70 points)

I've managed to finish painting seven Old Glory Prussian Landwehr Cavalry.

They are from the 4th Regiment of the 4th Silesian Landweher Cavalry. They are wearing frumpy schirmutz caps instead of proper shakos. Instead doing my own research, I filched the color scheme from the terrific "Blunders on the Danube" blog.

Here they running towards the left of your computer screen. I've included three previously painted models, that I posted a month ago, before I ran out of blue paint.

From JamesR - 28mm Centaurs (65 points)

I finished a small pack of Centaurs.  I wish they counted as mounted, for the points, but I can't find any legal precedence to make the worth more than five points a piece.

Here's a picture of them all together.  Everyone but the standard bearer is a Mega-Mini.  I have no idea if Mega-Minis bought the molds from someone else, or has since sold them. Mega-Minis have great stuff, but their catalog constantly changes.

Here's a couple that are quite Greek looking

Here's the standard bearer and one that almost appears Asian.  The standard bearer is an old Ral Partha or Grenadier sculpt; I wonder if Tom Meir made it.  It may be quite rare, as I can't find much on them using the Google machine.

Here are a couple evil looking centaurs.  I was debating calling them Anti-heroes for Curt; I simply can't think of anything clever for the Anti-hero challenge submission.

Here's a few more classical style centaurs; they strike me far more like the wild ones of myth, who get violently drunk and go on booze-induced rape and killing sprees.  Then Heracles or someone will have to kill them all with poison or tricks.

Awesome! I really like seeing all these various interpretations of centaurs - very cool. Your banner bearer conversion worked out very well and, yes, he does have a Tom Meir look about him.

In regards to points, I'll split the difference with you James, so 7 points each plus a bit more for the standard bearer conversion.

From JamesR - A few Prussian Landwehr (35 points)

I only managed to finish a seven Prussian Landwehr troops.

Whoops, didn't capture the whole unit.

The tall guys are Warlord plastic Prussian Landwehr.  I had a few left over from when I originally painted the box up.

I have no idea who produced the little guy, but he looks a bit like a Prussian.  My Prussian recruiting office allowed him to join up.

Here they are marching off to the right.

Haha! This is a great entry James!  You really should have saved it up for the 'Comedic' theme round.  

Your Prussians are very well-painted, but I've always had a problem with how huge the mits are on these models - they're absolutely monstrous! In fact your 'little corporal' looks more in proportion than these schnitzel-fed boys from Silesia. Nevertheless, Old Blucher will no doubt welcome the new drafts. Well done! 

Now, bring on your tentacly Cthulhu goodness!

From JamesR - Perry Plastic Frenchmen and a Glowing One (104 Points)

I finished a total of 21 minis.  The first nineteen are Perry Plastic French Infantry.  I think the purple pom poms on the right might be too dark.

Here they are looking at the woods.

Curt should subtract a point.  One guy is missing a backpack.

Speaking of backpacks, I wish there were a few less backpacks with spare shoes tied on the back.  When the French retreat, my ill-shod Prussian Landwehr run off the table after them. Unless you're playing Regiment of Foote, having your troops run off the table is usually a bad thing.

Because I have hundreds of these French to paint, I am doing them in batches of three or less poses.

Here's a side shot, with the painful eyesore missing backpack.  I have no backpacks to spare; one poor soldier will forever be woefully unprepared to make camp.

To end on a dull note, the last two minis aren't that exciting.  The first is an Old Glory British Rocket crewman.  Years ago, an Old Glory British Rocket pack order came with an extra mini and he was never painted.

The abysmal looking green thing is a mini from the old Doom boardgame.  I wanted him to look like he was one of those radioactive ghouls, called glowing ones, from the Fallout video games.

If you squint or the photo is blurry, he sort of looks glowy.

Till next time, when I hope to have a few Prussians done.  I missed the Victorian challenge, but I have something clever planned for the next one, which I think is supposed to be funny.

Nice French Nappies! These poilu look suitably miserable and road-weary as they trudge to imperial glory.  So, James, how did you manage to be short a backpack? (As a suggestion you could have him slinging a drum as some drummers often carried them on their backs.)

The radioactive dude is brilliant, literally. (Is that pile of white ash at his feet his clothes?) 

From JamesR Javelinmen, Staff Slingers, Dwarf Puppeteer, Chaplains, and Maniac (80 points)

I've managed to finish a small unit of javelinmen for a Byzantine or El Cid army.  The models were sold by Battle Honors as Spanish javelinmen, but they'll do fine as Byzantine skirmishers.

The spears are floral wire dipped in paint.

Not a very good paint job, I wish Battle Honors ancients were still available so I could try again.

Here's three Old Glory staff slingers.  There's a dwarf who appears to be doing a puppet show, but I think he's an old Ral Partha dwarf or gnome illusionist.  The guy on the right is an old Grenadier Fantasy Wars town guard model.

There's only two pictures, because the rest were very blurry.

Here's two atrociously painted Rogue Trader era space marine Chaplains and a model from Fantasy Flight's Mansions of Madness.

I used Wargames Factory bits for his victims.

Curt should subtract a point, because has whatever it is space marines wear on their back/back pack is missing.

Next week I hope to have a pack of Napoleonic French infantry.  Here I am hard at work prepping models.

From Curt:I dunno James these figures look absolutely fine to me, I especially like what you did with the axe wielding maniac from The Mansions of Madness box - great job on the blood spatter, the grisly bits and the floorboards. Speaking of grisly, when I say I want everybody to paint their fingers off it was meant as a turn of phrase. Yeesh!
