I would like to take the limo ride from Drama lot to Black and White lot please. 

As my offering for the limo ride  I have entered the Armagnac’s new hope for victory  against the English…..Jeanne D’Arc.

…… as per custom for me  a Star Wars ship (1/172 a weird  scale, the model is about the size of a matchbox car) somehow fits into a challenge somewhere every year! A simple build I completed in between painting the other bits on Sunday, I think I assembled and painted in less than three hours while listening to The Yarkshire Gamers “Brews in the binyard chat” (where I got a mention too! )

Next up some Romans, as always I commence with a command stand...

Varus I think through the forest to chase off the Germans is a great idea.....this way Arminius.. 28mm foundry miniatures

A unit of Roman Gallic imperial archers, a mix of Warlord and Foundry Miniatures

Another unit of Eastern archers a mix of Foundry and Warlord Miniatures 

Finally a modern matchbox diecast repaint for my Special forces types to ride around in. I have the figures to complete at some stage for the back with HMG. The Toyota technical will make an appearance in my 20mm afghan or middle eastern games

What a fantastic set of entries, Matt. I'm going to assume the Star Wars ship is a 28mm vehicle, but it would help in future if you could state the scale, provide a size-comparison photo or email me beforehand to check. I've added a point for the flag as you have hand-painted over the photocopy.

For tracking your progress through the studios, it would be very helpful if you could download the studio map and edit it by adding numbers or ticks to indicate which studios you've visited, then include the updated map as part of your posts.

Update - the Star Wars ship is, I am informed, about the size of a Matchbox or Hotwheels car, so I've adjusted the scoring of that to a 20mm vehicle.

From SimonG: AHPC XII Wrap-Up aka Swords & Sandals

It hardly seems like yesterday that it was the end of November and I'd just realised that I'd missed the cut-off to sign up for this year's challenge 😫 . Very luckily for me Carl was kind enough to expand the roster of entrants and admit me along with a few other laggards!

Now why do I never smile? Mr Grumpy and his figures 😄 

Last time was my first entry into the full challenge (having participated in the Quarantine Challenge earlier in the year) and I had rather hoped that I'd be able to match my target of 1,000 achieved in Winter 2020/21.  Unfortunately painting at a somewhat larger scale (i.e. human room sized!) got in the way and I fell quite a long way short.

Still I did manage to work on four separate projects including

1) Putting the finishing touches to my 28mm Hundred Years War Impetus project -- finally now ready to be hit the tabletop now that I have a room set aside for gaming and a suitable table -- seven KR boxes full of figures ready to go

2) Making a solid start on my next 28mm project -- the Jewish Revolt as a skirmish game using 'Clash of Spears'.  I still haven't got into the routine of assembling my figures before the challenge starts so one of my excuses for lower painting productivity this time around is all that head swapping and tzitzit adding! Still this looks like a good project and I'm looking forward to including some major construction of ancient fortifications in the next AHPC

3) Continuing to chip away at my 10mm Cold War Gone Hot project and making a start on my BAOR force. Vehicles make a nice change from 28mm figures and I also like painting camo at 10mm -- basing at this scale on the other hand less so

4) And finally a smattering of Black Rose Wars characters for variety and to meet various challenge goals.  I'm rather coming to the end of the Stator Box now but I think I've got another expansion due to arrive soon so should set me in good stead for next time.  I always enjoy the variety of designs, and scales among these figures -- and of course lots of opportunities to try out new designs and techniques.

The scene – East Kent, the road to Maidstone 4pm Thursday 24th May 1381. 

Walter Tayler and his young French wife Genevieve are returning home after a busy day trading at the market in Canterbury when they are stopped by the Dominican Friar and parish tax collector, Father Cummins, with his bailiff Sir Boris Johnstone ...

Two weeks later first fatality in Kent of the Peasants revolt occurred as the people of Kent “made their chief one Watt Teghler of Maidstone” and instigated the Great Revolt of 1381!

Although the dates and events are historically correct we cannot be sure that Walt (about whom there is precious little known) was actually stopped by a tax man ... and as to what Boris had in mind, hmm parallels with recent events?

Anyway this little vignette demonstrates that taxation and bureaucracy have always been with us. It uses Wargames Foundry figures and I hope you enjoyed it

Five 28mm figures (four people plus the ass) should be good for 25 points plus the 20 point bonus for a stop off on Vlogsphere makes 45. Next stop Coruscant and some Imperial Romans!

From SimonG: HYW Casualties & Carrion Crows for Glorantha (76 points)

My two sisters have dropped us off from Lady Sarah's Star Yacht at Glorantha where we are fated to come across the scene of a Hundred Year War battle and the unfortunate victims.

Woe is me! Yummy carrion!

Pecking amongst the slain are sixteen carrion crows -- Odin's messengers hence the link to runes and matters nordic! OK so this was a little bit of a stretch but I did need some way of working in twelve casualty markers for my 28mm Impetus HYW project.

These turned out to be surprisingly fiddly to work with (I'm not used to prone figures) and all my paint work was nearly messed up at the end when they got covered with base material dust as I bedded them into the wet base-work (again a figure on a base isn't subject to this issue.

Anyway these are all 28mm Perry metals and the ravens are from Eureka Miniatures. I do like painting feathers although at this size not too much comes out.

Anyway hopefully it will all look good on the table, I should perhaps have chosen slightly larger bases at it was hard to fit everything in.

Points wise I think that's 73.5 - 9 prone figures is 22.5 and 3 standing adds another 15, plus 16 ravens at 1 point each and the 20 point challenge bonus. Next stop Glorantha and back to my Jewish wars project with the invading Romans!

From TomG - A Little Bit of This & A Little Bit of That (Babylon 5) (Istvaan V) - 143pts

What better way to start the new year than with my favourite war, battle, King and model company?! Welcome 2022 and all of you lovely people to my rendition of King Henry V from Perry Miniatures, a suitably regal header to this article. 

I've studied the Hundred Years War since I started university, and it never ceases to inspire and entertain me, be it the bloody battles, or the political swaying that took part on all sides. Gruesome murders, plots, plagues, music, joy, you name it, it happened! 

Below we see Henry V in situ with a group of Knights that were painted 3 years ago, ready to take on the deceitful and ignorant French forces of DaveS, my local and loyal hobby buddy! 

I know that historically Henry was said to have been on foot, but for easy recognition on the gaming table, you can't say no to a bit of fun anachronism. 

Next up is my first entry to the ACW Duel, with two stands of Epic ACW Union by Warlord Games, entirely painted with GW Contrast Paints. A fun and fast experiment which is working out as well as is to be expected! 

Although I could have put in a fair amount more variety, knowing I have thousands of them to paint, meant I needed to hasten my efforts, so variety was the spice I had to remove. But I think you'll agree they still look fine for a game. 

Now to my space fairing holiday on "Curt's Constellation Cruises" and a great evenings watching of some low budget horror movies as we orbit Babylon 5, with obligatory groaning from both the mummy... and the crowd. 

This wonderful chap is from Crooked Dice and their pulp range of minis, specifically from a villains set they ran as a kickstarter a few years ago. Although 28mm he stands much taller than your average figure, so he really suits the role of baddie. 

And as we leave Babylon 5, we arrive at the desolate wasteland of Istvaan V, and my offering of an Imperial, "loyalist" Sister of Battle, as well as being a sacrifice for a ticket on Sarah's Star Yacht, hopefully taking me over to Arda, pretty please. 

I took colour inspiration from my favoured NFL team, the Minnesota Vikings, sporting their iconic purple, white and yellow. Conveniently they also work together for a groovy scifi feel, on one mean Sister... of Battle.

So there you go, one King, 40 Union infantry, a mummy and a Sister of Battle, all bringing me a tidy packet of points:

1x Mounted 28mm = 10pts

40x 15mm Infantry = 80pts

1x 28mm Infantry + Challenge Bonus = 25pts

1x 28mm Infantry + Challenge Bonus = 25pts

Total = 140pts

Finally, my current journey on Curt's Constellation Cruises, with projected final leg on the Outer Ring. After that, it's time to adventure onwards and inwards!

Tom now that is an eye candy treat for Friday morning. I love King Henry - though pretty sure i can just hear Dear Sir Larry! The epic ACW are indeed looking epic , well done. With a little minion bonus for the King and big mummy I  make this 143!
