From DaveX: Winter Americans [Under Construction][Limo] (85 points)

For the under construction theme, I have had a group of winter Americans sitting on my desk for so long that were three quarters painted, they had dust and cat hair gathering on them! What a perfect opportunity to get them finished and snag a bonus 20 points. I have a very very very slow grow late war Winter Project for the Ardennes Offensive. I have mostly painted a few squads of Americans and done the odd German unit. My US Forces needed a HQ so I used the awesome Warlord Games sculpts. Their Winter German and Winter US ranges are beautiful. I also had a bailed out tank crew that was in the same state.

More eye candy, no points, just some Winter Fallschirmjager I put together. A few conversions here and there.       

As I needed to use Lady Limousine to unlock Under Construction, I painted a Female Sci Fi Pilot by Crooked Dice.  I thought she was most fitting. She has those retro organge vibes.

So that is this weeks entry. 

We have 9 x 28mm Miniatures = 45 Points 

Under Construction Bonus = 20 Points 

Lady Limousine = 20 Points

Grand Total of 85 Handy Points (I think) :D

The Sci-Fi pilot looks like she knows her way around the Studios, so you arrive safely to your destination. Please note, that when plotting your route, the Western Studio is in the blue zone in the official version of the map, it was green initially, but changed quite early on.

From DaveX: We Came, We Saw, We Kicked its... [1980s] (40 points)

Sticking with Zombicide, I have decided to paint hundreds of dollars worth of miniatures. I purchased the Zombicide Ghostbusters packs direct from CMON when they came out a few years ago. They are now varying in worth but probably both box sets could fetch me a pretty penny and much more than i paid for them. But that's not me. Instead I opened them and gave them a nice tabletop ready paint job. They are great miniatures and should be easily recognisable on the table. They were a little flat in detail and some stuff was hard to pick out but I gave it a good go. I painted the four Ghostbusters from the original 1984 movie. This will also be my 1980s entry for the challenge, afterall Ghostbusters came out in 1984. I did some research first.

From TeemuL: This is the first time in my short Minion career, where I meet the infamous non-labeled post, marked as ready. Oh, the horror! But since I'm a newbie, I took this as a challenge and did my very best to assign some labels to the post. I just hope this will not be a habit...

Then the more important things, these minis look great and fit the 1980s studio like a fist in a ghost's eye. I'm sure they are able to fight both zombies and ghosts, if needed.

DaveX - A Zombie Horde (125 Points)

Hi I'm DaveX, you may remember me from such Challenges as 2018 and 2019. Well now I am back and it is a really nice community to be part of. I have spent the last few days going through everyones amazing submissions so far. For my first post, I have not submitted something under the AHPC Studios challenge however I have many ideas for it. I am a HUGE fan of Zombicide and I kickstarted the 2nd Edition. Zombicide is the ultimate gateway game into miniature wargaming. My OCD does not allow me to play a game unpainted so I am yet to play 2nd Edition. I recently sold my 100% painted Zombicide First Edition with some expansions to free up some space. So here we have 25 Walkers ready to be played! For anyone who has played Zombicide, walkers have an extremely short life on the table and are often dispatched quickly. As there is so many of them (40 in the box) i give them a simple yet effective paint scheme. My technique is as follows: Prime Black

Army painter speed paints blocking in

Drybrush with a shade of Khaki/Light Brown Pick out eyes, teeth, equipment etc. Paint Bases and add some pigments to the bases Varnish Cover mistakes etc with Citadel Blood for the Blood God

I think they look really nice with such a simple paint job. I have been using this technique for years now, especially for painting Zombie Hordes before a silly term for it was invented via youtube. I only have a few Fatties to paint and then I will put some effort into the Player Characters. I can finally play my game :D So we are looking at: 25 x 28mm Zombies @ 125 Points. Not a bad way to kick off the challenge.

I agree, Zombicide is hella fun, and your recipe for fast-paint zombies (slap chop, dare I say) is brilliant. Very effective and eye-catching, I think. I will definitely take this to heart when I next have to do a similar horde army. (In fact, I'm actually doing something similar for a set of entries later down the Challenge.) 

I look forward to the upcoming Fatties and the player characters!

From DaveX: An Afghanistan Compound (60 points)

This week I pulled my finger out and painted up my Afghanistan Compound.  This is a 3D Print I have done.  I textured the walls with some PVA glue and tile grout.

I primed it with Rust-Oleum Spray, blocked in a few colours and then dry-brushed with a large make up brush.  I then hit it with oils.

I am pretty happy how this thing came out.  Plus it is massive! It is for 20mm Figures and 1/72 scale.

The roofs and second stories all come off and are magnatised.

Now lets work out the points. It is 44cm long, 31cm wide and about 10cm high

So lets say 18inches x 12inches x 3inches to keep the maths simple.

So that would (3 x 2) 6 inch cubes at 20 points each = 120 points.

As the height is only 3 inches tall thats half of that so should be 60 points.

I think that is about fair and this thing took freaking ages to magnatise, texture and paint.

Very nice work, Dave! Great to see some action shots. I'm leaning towards 3D printing with subsequent texturing and detailing, as you have done here. It really looks the part. 60 points well-earned!

From DaveX: Warhammer Skeletons and some Trees (70 points)

This week I have painted up some kitbashed Warhammer Skeletons.  They are from multiple parts from the Old/Middlehammer skeleton kits before they went all Egyptian themed.

I much prefer them this way.  There were some most annoying mold lines from the early 2000s bodys that I used.  The older ones moulded in the 1990s have less mold lines.

Anyway these were a simple paint job.  Prime, Drybrush dip, highlight!

This should net me 50 points.

I had a bunch of dirt cheap ebay trees laying around... 20 trees for only a few dollars delivered.  The problem was they shedded alot and were rather crappy!  So I used some tac glue, added some flock, and gave them a quick paint job.  I sealed the flock on the leaves with some cheap craft varnish.  I recon these should get me 20 points (or more if you are feeling generous) :)

Skellies are great fun to paint. The important decision is whether to go white or cream, and I like your choice.

From Dave X: More bad men in 20mm (16 points)

A bit of a quiet week for me in terms of finishing figures but I am halfway through the next bonus round and painting up next Monday's submission.

This week I bring 4 more bad men from Elhiem Figures in 20mm.

These Taliban are really lovely sculpts.  Now I am not a gun person and according to the Elhiem Website there are 4 LMGs here, 1 x RPD, 2 x RPK and 1 x PKM.  Perhaps one of our American Friends can point out what is what :)

These will net me 16 points in 20mm

From DaveX: Warhammer Quest Rats and 20mm Taliban (44 Points)

This week I got around to painting some Warhammer Quest (1995) Rats that I have had primed for a few months.  I have rebased them onto 20mm Square GW Bases as they come on this horrible thick plastic pudding base.  I chopped up some left over plasticard to create a flagstone cross dungeon cross ruins sort of effect.

I decided to mix up the colours and give them some variation and I think it looks really nice. I love the look of these Old School Plastic minis.  There are 12 in total coming to 60 points.

This week I also quickly painted up another 5 Taliban giving me a handy 20 points bringing this weeks total to 80 points.

Very nice rats! Your basing and variety in colours is naturalistic and hides the uniformity of the sculpts perfectly. You can never have enough rats. Similarly, you can never have enough modern baddies, and the suspicious package person is sure to give drone feed operators agonies of doubt. Sadly, I'm going to downscore the rats as 15mm equivalents which will leave you with 44 points.

This week I am submitting some Taliban RPG teams.  There are four models in total from Elhiem.  They are 20mm in size.

They will represent RPG teams.  I felt I rushed these just a little to get them done but they look great in among their comrades.

This will give me 16 handy points.
