From IsobelS: The Curtgeld Figure (25 points)

Hello everyone!
In this post I am presenting the Curtgeld figure that I have painted. This guy is part of a larger Landschneckt raiding party.

By Paul & Alan - Another great addition to the Team Oz looting party!  I'm sure he is just helping that lady get to the soup kitchen after she, um, sprained her ankle or something...  particularly as you posted this on International Women's Day!

From IsobelS: Spooky Scary Skeletons! (50 points)

Hello everyone!

This week has been less hectic than its predecessors so I have been able to finally get down to some serious painting. I will admit that I have been fluffing around somewhat and being finicky with a few character models that I am yet to complete. However, I have finally come around to finishing a small portion of my skeleton collection. Yay!

These 10 28mm skeletons were purchased from North Star and were named '10 Assorted Skeletons'. A very apt description. I also know that these guys were at least sculpted by a gentleman named Roy in 1992. I will most likely end up using these guys as a unit in Dragon Rampant, though I think that they would fit splendidly into any fantasy or light-hearted skirmish game.

It is an understatement to say that I was thrilled when I first acquired these models as not only were they free of heavy and ridiculous armour that seems to adorn many undead fantasy models these days, but they were also beautifully cast having near to no mold imperfections and amazing detail. I absolutely love the Jason and the Argonauts feel these guys give off and I'm so pleased that they will be among the first models of my skeleton collection to be painted.

The group assembled in nice lines.

I will apologise for the poor quality of the pictures, my phone camera is nothing spectacular and I'm still working out the optimum lighting in our new place.

The Red Crew (from left to right): Bonsey 'Shield' Malone, Learing Spearskele, Grim Reaper in training, The Butcher of Bonestown, and No-Eyes Marksman

For my collection, I decided that for the skeletons red, and blue glowing eyes, would be a unifying feature. I have also tried to give the majority of the weaponry, armoury, and other bits and bobs and aged feel. I made all the wood quite dark and the weapons have rust effects. Sadly these photos don't really do a good job of showing this but trust me, it's there.

And the back comes to the front

I painted the bases quite dark and flocked them with generic static grass to match the graves that I painted up for the Home bonus round. In the very near future, hopefully next week, I'll have a skeleton drummer to match. That being said I do have a large handful of Napoleonic Officers that need doing so that the Retreat from Moscow for I was working on can finally be playable.

That's all for this week!

Paul & Alan: Very nice Isobel - I love the glowing eyes, thats a great effect to make them stand out.  50 points for you for these boney chaps!

From IsobelS: French Napoleonics (220 points)

Hello again! For this week's submission, I present 44 French Napoleonic Infantryman. These guys are all metal and unfortunately, I have no idea who or when they were sculpted or cast as they were given as a gift. These guys will most likely be used for Sharp Practice as a Retreat from Moscow, hence the snow.

These guys were fairly simple and quick to paint up due to the uniformity. What really slowed down the whole process was using the Army Painter Strong Quickshade, which needs 24 hours to dry. I also used Liquid Nails to glue them to metal washers, which also takes 24 hours to dry. I choose to do this because it sticks the model to the base really well and creates a good texture that hides the foot tabs really well.

This is a closer up of the basic lads.

The MVPs; Waving Man, Calling Out Dude, Kind of Pointing Guy

A closer up of the Light Infantry/Skirmishers. They have the shoulder tassels.

The MVPs of the Skirmishers; Beaky Shooterson, Halt!, and Mr. Point

I still need to paint up the Commanders and some drummers to finish off this force but I'll be giving them a little break for now and be getting ready for the upcoming special round. Hopefully, these guys will see the field of battle soon.

Paul & Alan: a lovely Nappy points bomb Isobel!  You've done a great job on these and I'm looking forward to seeing them on the table.  A hard earned 220 points for you!

From IsobelS: Ghosty Goos (60 points)

Hi everyone, this is my first time in the painting challenge and my first post. So for my first submission, I painted 12 Army of the Dead figures from the Lord of the Rings. I believe these guys were sculpted by the Perry's or by the Prime Minister, based on the 'PM' on the foot tabs. I plan on using them for a Dragon Rampant force at some point in the future, or just for looking cool in my growing Undead Collection.

The boys from the top in a classic wedge formation.

A bit of a close up of all the guys.

The three champions; Axe Shield Ghost, King Ghost, and Menacing Sword Ghost.

Super serious going to mess you up shot.

The paints I used were Vallejo Fluro Green, Fluro Yellow, and White, as well as Citadel Green Ink for the figures. For the basing, I used run of the mill sand and small bits of cork for rocks and then inked them with the Citadel Mahogany ink. Then I dry brushed around the ghost for some spooky glowing ectoplasm with Citadel Snot Green and then over the top of that closer to the models with the Vallejo White. I finished it all off with a Satin Varnish and the Army Painter Anti-Shine Spray.

I quite like the way they turned out, although I think I went a bit heavy with the dry brush for the glow effects. I do plan on doing more ghosts in the future to match these guys so I'll take this as a valuable learning experience. Also, thanks to Phill K for the setup and taking these photos. Next up, I plan to have a small bunch of Napoleonics based up for Sharpe Practice. Wish me luck!

Welcome to the Challenge Isobel! These ghosts are so realistically green and moist looking they had me reaching for my hanky. You have done a great job with a limited palette to make these ghosts look suitably glowy and spooky. Just lovely, and the final photo is quite intimidating. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with Napoleonics, and also to see more of your undead figures. 60 points for you!  (Alan and Paul).
