From DaveD -15mm French Battlegroup additions 7DTTR - (142 points )

This week it is back to the last of the 15mm French Battlegroup. This time is the additional infantry and various transport options. Everything is by Battlefront from the "Team Yankee" ranges.

Infantry platoon:

Wheeled transport VAB Véhicule de l'Avant Blindé

All vehicles airbrushed with a standard NATO 3-colour scheme, tracks, wheels in VJ black grey followed by a dark brown oil wash and pick out highlights.

Next AMX10P Tracked APC with 20mm auto cannon.

There are the odd decal on these, it is though something I miss on “moderns".

That completes my full Battlegroup. All completed during challenges 14 and 16.

Points :-

10 x 15mm vehicles = 80

Infantry x 29= 58 , crew 4 =4 , total 62

Total 142

***

Great work Dave - it is particularly lovely to see the entire force together at the conclusion of the post. They look ready to take on all opponents in some lovely Cold-War-Gone-Hot tabletop mayhem.

Another whopping 142 points - well-earned.

From PeterA: (Little) Big Stompy Robots of Death! (27 points)

For my first post as part of the Sunday Crew I present three 15mm Dreadnaughts for the Horus Heresy. All are upscaled 3d prints from their original Epic scale (somewhere between 6-8mm I believe) and are part of my expanding collection for gaming the Horus Heresy in 15mm. In last year's Challenge I entered some Death Guard and Imperial Fists, so here are some more Loyalists in the form of a Space Wolves Contemptor and Leviathan Dreadnaught, and a Traitor Leviathan from the World Eaters.

First up, the Space Wolves Contemptor. I tried to bring out some of the detail using oil paints and thinners to apply a pin wash, not something I have done before. more practice will help, but it was relatively straightforward and I am quite pleased with the results, much more restrained and subtle than an acrylic wash. I used a few of the smallest decals from the GW Space Wolves Legion transfer sheet (intended for their full size models) to add a bit of colour, and there is also some sponged on battle damage. There are also a couple of Varagyr Terminators (3d prints again) for an idea of scale.

Joining the Contemptor is a Leviathan Dreadnaught - unfortunately I dropped him during painting and he lost one of the claws on his power fist, which promptly disappeared into the carpet's Bermuda Triangle-like vortex. As before, pin wash to try and bring out the details, some decals for bling and more Terminators for scale. As he is a big boy, he also has a hero rock (actually bark for garden use) which he takes with him everywhere!

And here they are together - I do love the insane size of the Levithan, as well as the four barrelled cannon for administering the Emperor's mercy!

Speaking of insane, here is a World Eaters' Leviathan. In the setting, these are meant to be siege Dreadnaughts, designed for tearing down/through fortifications and any soft squishy things inside them. However, the World Eaters are blood-thirsty, berserk maniacs, whose primary (only, really) tactic is to charge headlong into the enemy and hit them in the face. So clearly this Dreadnaught doesn't have the patience for siege warfare and is carrying out research on what a siege drill designed for burrowing through metres-thick walls can achieve in close combat. Either that, or it is simply running at the afore-mentioned wall to see if it can run through it.

Again, I have tried a pin wash, mostly on the blue and metallic parts. I don't have any decals for the World Eaters, so the Dreadnaught has had to make do with liberal use of the blood effect paint from GW to mark him out as a World Eater.

One last pic of all three together:

Points wise:

3x 15mm Dreadnaughts = 24 points

3x (little) Big Stompy Robots of Death = 3 side duel points

Total = 27 points (not sure if the Side Duel points get added to the total so will defer to the Almighty Sunday Minion! - the duels wallah should sort that - your post is tagged suitably )

From DaveD. Welcome into the fray Peter. Big Stompy Robots are always a joy to see .the hero rock sounds like a good idea . Oil washes are always a great way of working once you are used to them I feel . Well done on trying it .So I will round you upto 27pts .

From SimonG: Vague History and Dodgy Heraldry - 15mm Crusaders (45 points)

Continuing my 15mm Khurasan Miniatures Cathar Crusade project my submission this week is three Impetus bases for the Crusader side -- one of mounted knights and two of skirmisher crossbowmen.

One of the nice things with working at 15mm is that you still have the larger Impetus bases on which you can get a good number of figures, but the overal size of the bases is more manageable (in this case all on an 80mm frontage, with depth between 30 and 60mm)

The crossbow figures came without strings so despite already having cleaned up and undercoated them I decided at the last minute that I had to add them -- not too much work as the bows are small and quite easy to work with but a delay I could have done without. I painted the two units in rather generic livery, one of course with crusader crosses (the white is a base coat of Corax White, then a coat of Apothecary White Contrast, then layer white scar).

With only four poses it takes some work to try and manage variation but I think these came out nicely.

The second unit in a simple green and red with crusader badges on the left chest.

My mounted unit was supposed to be Vicomte Bertrand, illegitimate son of Raymond VI of Toulouse and hence half brother of our Cathar hero Raymond VII -- unfortunately I discovered the problems of relying on the first internet source you come to for history -- as I've researched further (at least par Sumption) Vicomte Bertrand defended Toulouse in 1211 for his father and was ransomed by Simon de Montfort -- as many switched sides perhaps at some later point he allied with the Crusaders but for the moment I may have him on the wrong side (I could simply have swapped the base edging from Blue to Red to change him back to the defenders but then am left with the problem of the two obvious crusaders with him, doh!)

A bigger problem is with the heraldry as the Cathar cross on the flag should be gules and or not sable -- my bad as after printing this I forgot to overpaint and then took the figure reference from the flag -- oh the errors we make when rushing for the challenge!)

The heraldry on the other figures is all made up so luckily there cannot be too many errors there as long as I follow heraldric rules! Anyway, despite all these snafus I'm still pleased with the unit and with the dappled grey in particular -- hope you like them too!

No bonus points claimed this week so a simple 12x 15mm infantry and five mounted for another 44 points. See you again next week with some more legionaries!

Sylvain: You continue to impress me week after week with your amazing brush work at this small but mighty 15mm scale. I also like the ground work on your bases, it looks very realistic. The games you are preparing will certainly be spectacular. I will add 1 point for the banner to round up your points to 45. Nicely executed!

From ChrisW: 15mm Mercenary APCs and support vehicles [144 points]

So these are the vehicles that had the priming issue last week. After much elbow work, and cleaning I was able to restore them and have the primer stick to them. They all came from Alternative armies. The plan is to have units of three APCs supported by a gatling gun anti infantry APC and an anti tank support APC. The three missile vehicles will be partnered up with the command vehicle from last weeks post.

Nine 'taxi' APCs

Three gatling gun armed APCs

Three Anti tank APCs

Three missile launcher vehicles

 So the totals

  • 144 points for 18x 15mm vehicles (8 points each)

  So, no squirrels this post

I can only imagine the size of the vehicle park in your display cabinets Chris... this is some impressive production. I really like how you've done the camo on these vehicles and the hover skirts look really good too. You are certainly set for some big 15mm SF games! Good work!

144 points added to your tally!
