From JamieM - Pulp Sci-Fi (Babylon 5)(30 points)

Just time to squeeze another quick one in - a pulp hero and heroine.

These two were originally a pack of two from statuesque miniatures for use mainly with the Pulp Ally rules. The chap came with a pistol and the mechanic lady had a spanner.

After reading the Stargrave rules, I realised that I needed more figures with rifles, so I swapped his weapon with a brilliant ray gun that I got with a Bombshell miniatures Kickstarter.

I decided that the lady also needed some weaponry, so I found a combat drone (from the same bombshell Kickstarter) as she looked like the sort of character who would put robots together to fight for her.  I pinned it to her arm to give the illusion of it flying….. I decided to go with this instead of a clear flying stand or similar.

I’m pretty pleased with how they came out and they gave me the Low Budget fun vibe (the drone stuck to the heroine’s arm reminds me of zaphod beeblebox with the second head stuck to the actors shoulder!) so hopefully that’s enough for the planetary bonus….. if so, I find myself next to a warp maelstrom and so await the minion’s guide as to where I end up in the middle ring!

For scoring, 2 x 28mm figures and a planetary bonus for 30 total points.

***

Very, very nice work here Jamie. I love that this one Kickstarter somehow provided all of the weapons and conversion bits you might require in order to suit your vision for these two figures. "Stargrave" certainly sounds interesting! Also, brilliant stuff with the flying drone - you managed that just right, in my opinion. Very cool...seems to be waiting for her command, like a loyal (if mechanical) hawk. Nice work.

Now...as to the Maelstrom...well...I get to drop you any old place I like, do I? Let me go find a 40k Navigator figure and some star charts...and some wine...some more wine...just a BIT more wine...mmmm Chianti, so good with pasta...

The gods of the Warp Maelstrom have deposited you on Coruscant! Bring forth something Imperial, or something touching on "Good vs. Evil"! The soulless authorities await your efforts!

From Curt: Felicity Foxcroft, Femme Fatale - For Passage on Sarah's Star Yacht (25 Points)

Typical for me, I've dropped into the map not having a hot clue of what I'm doing. Yep, no plan at all. Not to fear, as thankfully we have the delightful Lady Sarah with her Star Yacht to whisk us around the various orbits, depositing us where we wish, for the low, low cost of a painted female figure. What a great deal!

Accordingly, I present to you Felicity Foxcroft, dilettante, freelance spy and all-around heart-breaker.

I've had this figure in my stores for quite a while, and for the life of me I can't remember where I got her from. She looks like a Hasslefree, Statuesque, or a Pulp Miniature sculpt. Hmm, I dunno. No matter, I think she's quite the dish with her slinky evening gown, long silk gloves, and, the ultimate accessory for a lady-about-town: a .38 snub nose revolver.

Felicity will be a welcome addition to our Pulp collection. I know for certain she'll charm the socks off of the next Shoggoth we happen across.

Okay, I have 5 points for Felicity, plus another 20 for my passage on Sarah's Star Yacht, so 25 total.

Oh, and this will also be 'F' for Femme Fatale in the 'Alphabet Soup Challenge' (I also have 'M' for Marvin).

Aaand, 5 points towards my 95 point 'Modern Duel' with DavidB.

Now, I'm off for Caprica!

From Curt: The Yellowjacket vs The FemmeBots of Venus for 'The Guardroom' (60 Points)

'The Yellowjacket' (known affectionately by his friends as 'The Flying Codpiece') feathers his jetpack and quietly lands on the strange mountain. He descends into its depths, following an ancient map which promises to lead him to the Altar of the SnowLord.

He makes good progress, but as The Yellowjacket begins to softly pad trough a darkened chamber, he steps on a flagstone which shifts tellingly under his foot. He rolls his eyes and draws his pistol, 'Damn. I knew this was too easy.' He hears the faint click and whir of activating mechanisms, as seven lithe figures emerge from niches in the wall.  Their alabaster skin seems alight with an unknown energy within. They all draw pistols and their purple-haired leader says in a soft metallic voice, 'Who passes the Threshold? Name and password, please.'

Yellowjacket adjusts his codpiece nervously as he faces the FemmeBots of Venus...

The Yellowjacket is a figure from TinMan Miniatures. A great casting in a classic comicbook pose.

My FemmeBots of Venus were from Statuesque Miniatures. I say 'were' as they don't appear to be available anymore, which is a pity as they are really lovely castings.

As simple as they seem, the alabaster white on these gals was complete swine to paint (and no, I don't want to talk about it...).

The Yellowjacket, his FemmeBots adversaries, and the Chamber bonus will give me 60 points and my 7th Squirrel Point. Excellent!

From AlanD: More Partisans! (68 points)

A few more Jugoslavian partisans this week...

I have been enjoying this project a lot. Not only does the subject fascinate me, but I have been enjoying developing some skills in converting figures. The basis for most of this week's group are metal Italian infantry from Perry Miniatures, with different heads, greenstuff caps, and some changes to equipment so that they look a little more motley. There's also a couple of figures from Warlord.

I am particularly pleased with the Partizanke I converted this week, with International Women's Day in mind. The female heads are from Statuesque Miniatures, with greenstuff hair and caps. I also tried to subtly alter the body shape of a couple of figures, building up the chest a little.

This one is a medic.

And here are some forward observers. Or maybe a sniper team?

65 points please. Will I make it to my target of 1500??

Lovely work on these! I'm really enjoying this unique project, and am glad to hear it hasn't become a chore. Motley is the word- and yet they all work together as a group. Have a few bonus points for the conversions, the lovely groundwork, and the map! Onwards to 1500!

WEDNESDAY from IannickM - The Vordania II Insurrectio (65 pts)

The "Insurrectio" is my second Sci-Fi outfit, after the Effigy Corporation. It is meant as a small "spaceband" of resistance fighters (see my blog in a few days for a more complete background), to play in various Sci-Fi skirmishes. I find the figures, just like the Effigy Corporation, would fit equally well in some Space Pulp, Cyberpunk or distant future Sci-Fi. They could also be used in a pinch as Imperial Guards in a Rogue Trader game. And of course, could be used as the small principled band of resistance fighters against the highly trained Havoc Teams of the Effigy Corporation! Same as my other outfit, the project is largely an excuse for me to paint some lovely Sci-Fi figures I've been eying for a while and which don't neatly fit in any actual game system. They also make for easy "transportable forces" when playing Sci-Fi away from home.

This merry band of female fighters is from the "Resistance Fighters" range from Statuesque Miniatures and it is a lovely little range. The sculpts are truly fantastic and full of personality, and were a joy to paint. My only criticism would be that some delicate assembly is involved, and gluing small hands or arms is always annoying, even more so on delicate female sculpts. I believe this is my first ever all women outfit! It is made-up of 13 members, including a (sexy) Cyborg!

The "Vordania II Insurrectio"

I tried to give the outfit a unified theme of green and purple while still giving each figure some personality. I'm happy with the end result.

First up we have the Command group: Antin Sanu in her commissar uniform and her cadre of officers. The two middle figures are probably my favourites of the range, they have *loads* of attitude!

Next up the heavy weapons and communication specialist.

I love the extra-sized Thompson-style heavy machine gun! (last right)

And then we have the regular Insurrectio fighters, with the Cyborg in the middle. Actually, the Cyborg was part of Statuesque's Pulp range, and is meant to be a Fembot of sort, but the addition of the cyborg head makes all the difference and I find the figure fits very well with the rest of the girls. I also wanted each of my Sci-Fi outfit to have a robot of some sort, and she fits the bill.

These gals are my second entry and will net me a total of 65 pts (13 28mm figures). Now, let's move to smaller things, like Halflings and Epic stuff...

ByronM: Where to start with these....  I love the sculpts, but even better is your paint job on them.  Very nice smooth transitions and shading.  The colour choices are really nice as well.  I don't know if it was what you were going for, but to me, despite being sci-fi based they have a kind of pulp look which I like a lot.  You managed to get enough shadow and dark to setup definition in the figures but not enough that it actually breaks up the models, something that I (and many others) find really hard to do.

Excellent stuff, keep it coming!

From JamieM - Pulp Sci-Fi Started (35 Points)

As my gaming tastes expand out from 40k (the game that game me into the hobby in the 80's and then back into the hobby after a hiatus in the 00's) I spend an inordinate amount of time looking at other game systems and miniature manufacturers, generally of the skirmish variety.

Two games that stood out as looking like fun were Pulp Alley and 7TV. Both looked like labours of love by their small company makers and gave me an excuse to get some unusual figures in..... And all gamers need is half an excuse!

As I was putting together some sci-fi scenery for infinity, and having a general love of sci-fi, I decided I'd go for some pulp sci-fi. I found the "good guys" relatively simply and they should be finished soon, but it took me a while to find my equivalent of the baddie storm troopers. These figures are from Statuesque Miniatures (who is also the UK supplier of Pulp Alley) and they had the right amount of 70's/80's cult sci-fi TV silliness for me, right down to the combat high heels and sci-fi equivalent of the D&D chain mail bikini.

I like my dystopian far futures nice and bright, so bright yellow armour glazed over white with a sepia "black line".

I couldn't decide if I preferred the helmets or the bare heads, so I split them and had the best of both.

The bases are resin hexagons, because I think we've known since the 70's that the coming of "The Future" will be heralded by the realisation that hexagons are far better than the boring squares and rectangles that we build with today.

Shown below is my painting area and the painting "station" can be cleared up onto a high shelf when required and the other boxes cleared away.

My one recommendation would be the clear acrylic nail varnish holders that you can see just above the paint station. Cheap as chips, hold paints brilliantly and as they are clear and stepped it's easy to see all the paints. I can also recommend 12 year old Clark's shoeboxes like the one at the top in the middle as I haven't had the heart to replace it given the sterling work it's done for me!

From Curt:
'In the bright light  of the future there are only hexes...'
Damn!! I was just prepping these very same figures and you've beat me to the punch! Haha! This is the second time this has happened to me and both with Statuesque Minis (the first being DaveD's excellent Dillinger and Long Sarah). Actually I'm kinda happy with how this worked out as I think your's are brilliant and I may need to rethink how I approach mine. I love the yellow plaststeel thong-armour, especially when matched to the redheads - wonderful colour combination there. I also really like the tech bases you've used for these - they fit the theme perfectly and are very slimming. :)
Good tip on the nail varnish rack as well and I find your loyalty to your Clarks paint storage box very commendable.
