From NoelW: Snowlord’s Treasury: (32 points)

They run and they run. They run heroically back through the Hall of Heroes. They run beastily back through the Lair of the Beast. They run all the way to the Snowlord’s Treasury where, surprise, surprise, they find – wouldn’t you know it? – Treasure.

“Is this the treasure that launched a thousand ships?” quips Titchy.

“Never mind that. Find something to beat off angry animated bags of bones.”

“How about this?” says Elfbow. “Looks awfully familiar to me.”

He points to a golden statue. A statue, it would seem, of Merlissa.

Getrude laughs.

“Her spell must’ve backfired. Instead of turning gold to air, she’s turned her to gold.”

“I didn’t know magic could pun.”

“It can in this story, or haven’t you been paying attention?”

“What about the Spear of Density?”

“It surely won’t have turned itself into something, would it?”

“It’s there. On the floor.”

“I’d better just check it still works,” says Elfbow, pointing it at the statue of Merlissa. “She’s as two faced as a pair of lizards. So, let’s see…”

With a tap of the spear, the statue instantly dissolves into:

“There must be something else magical amongst all this golden rubbish. Something really powerful that will incinerate bones in a blast of celestial power and doesn’t require a pant-wetting elf to wander over and poke them with a stick.”

“I’ve found this,” cries Titchy, holding aloft a half-eaten Wensleydale buttie. “It may not be the Greatest Treasure the World has Never Seen, but it’ll do me.”

He wolfs it down in one. And what instantly happens?

Absolutely nothing.

“Bit of an anticlimax,” mimes Clerihew.

“You don’t need to mime any more, Clerihew. We know you’re not really a Trappist.”

“Sorry,” he mimes.

“Woof!” says Scruff.

“I know they’re only bones, Scruff. But they’re far too many bones, even for you. Besides which, every time you bring one down, it’ll just spring back to life.”

“There’s only one thing that can help us,” says Getrude. “The Snowlord. We must abase ourselves before his altar and hope he’s not either hibernating, inebriated or over-indulged on Easter eggs (especially as it’s nowhere near Easter yet).”

“I can hear them coming. We’ll have to fight our way through to get there.”

“Then fight we will,” cries Elfbow. “Ladies first!”

“Alternatively,” says Titchy, “we can fill our pockets with this gold stuff, and get the sorceress to help us to the Altar. Then, hopefully, we can lay all this treasure at his feet and it will be his disposition which alters.”

There’s a rattle of bones at the door. Sand begins to flow through the cracks.

***

One pile of treasure is Terrain Crate, the other Wizzkids.

The lizards are from the old GW Lizardmen army, and another of uncertain origin.

Scoring: I guess 1 point each for the treasure pieces, 5 each for the lizards, and 20 for the Snowlord’s Treasury.

Total: 32 points

From MilesR: 2 More Chambers - The Lair of the Beast and the Treasury (66 Points)

Today's post has me clearing the final 2 rooms before ascending to the Altar of the Snowlord.

First, a trip through the Lair of the Beast.  In keeping with the familiar Stalingrad theme, one of the most effective and terrifying beasts in the German arsenal was their Close Air Support and nothing struck terror in the heart like the Stuka Dive Bomber and its awful siren.
The Germans entered Stalingrad in mid September but most of the city had been reduced to rubble by the constant air attacks of the German Close Air Support.  Historian David Glantz has made the point that reducing the city to rubble before entering it did more to fortify the city than the efforts of the Russians themselves in those critical early weeks of Fall'42.
These Stukas are 15mm models from Battlefront and a well needed addition to my German collection.

After clearing the Lair of the Beast, it was time to move onto the the treasury where my submission should look familiar as there have been several other much better renditions of the same pieces (Sanders in particular are wonderful but I suspect that's more Arthurs doing!).

At least this entry isn't some tortured and barely coherent shoe-horning of a Stalingrad theme to "fit" a room's definition!
These pieces are plastic casts from a Mantic terrain kickstarter and have been languishing on my lead pile for years.  There may be a "few" other terrain crate boxes in a similar state.  My club's official purpose is a fancy pants historical wargaming society, complete with historical harumps and a overly wrought you-tube channel but we play a surprising amount of D&D and D&D like games.  These pieces will find their way to Tony who runs one of the campaigns and does it "old-skool" complete with dry erase grid and mini's.
I had a lot of fun with these - I don't often get to break out the gold and silver paints or even (gasp) seal in GLOSS medium.  Heavens to Betsy.....

There you have it.  I am at the doorway to the Altar of the Snowlord.  I wonder what kind of adventure awaits?

Total Points are:

40 for 2 rooms
16 for 2 15mm vehicles
and 10 for the treasure piles

Grand Total: 66 Points

from RayR - The Chamber of Challenge - The SnowLord's Treasury - Smugglers 36pts

I'm getting close to the Level 4 and The Alter of the SnowLord. just wondering if I'll get there in time, to paint up whatever the Evil mind of Curt comes up with???

The Snow Lord’s Treasury: Your challenge in this Chamber is to paint a figure, unit or vignette featuring treasure of any kind. Go crazy with figures carrying gold, jewels, silver bullion, priceless artefacts, Elven-rings or strong-boxes with bundles of Confederate dollars!

I wasn't actually planning on painting anything up for this round, but routing through my upteen boxes of unloved figures I found the half a pack of Foundry figures.

The pack is their Civilian Smugglers from their 18th Century Civilian range.

Any loot the Smugglers managed to bring into any village or town could be described as treasure?
It certainly made them money anyway.

There was a little bit of conversion work, I chopped a tricorn and head off and replaced it with my preferred floppy hat for the chap holding the lantern. The head came from another Foundry figure, so anatomically it fitted perfectly.

Points mean prizes and these naughty boys with their loot should earn me...

5 points each for the figures
2 points each for the Treasure bases and another 20 for the Bonus

Making a grand total of 36.

From SanderS: The Snow Lord's Treasury! (45 points)

 Hoi,

You can see I have been busy painting a lot of my Heroquest themed stuff for this Challenge. Nothing is less true for the Snow Lord's Treasury as I had literally heaps of gold lying around.

They are pretty much all from the big Dungeon Terrain Crate and I really like them.

Amoung these piles of gold and jewels is a small heap painted by the Lad, see if you can guess which one. As he's at +200% of his points target already, he has graciously conseded all the points for this entry to his old dad... erm yeah...okay ;-)

Since I wanted to add some more figures to my painted HQ stash, I painted up my Battlemaster Halbardiers, the same ones Arthur painted for his Guardroom entry. I had initially intended to paint these chaps for the same entry into the Guardroom with Arthur but the schedule got derailed and therefore they are now here guarding the Snowlord's treasure for him wearing Icy Blue and white livery of course.

Now I reckon this should be 15 points for the Halbardiers, 10 for the treasure (?) and 20 for the locale is another 45 points.

Cheers Sander

From PeterD The Snowlord's Treasury (25 points)

For the treasury I've got three pieces from a Terrain Crate pack of various treasures.  I picked them up at my FLGS for this room.  I've done a few bits from Terrain Crate and like what I've seen, they are cheap, effective , cleanly cast and paint up nicely.

I tried a cobblestone effect under the crown's plinth.  Not over thrilled with it, I should have glued on card or pdf bits before mounting the plinth.

The ubiquitous pile of chests and scrolls.  Lots of uses here for my Italian Wars, El Cid and SYW projects.

The sword in the stone.  Not sure that I can find uses for this or the crown.  I did enjoy  playing with textures on them.

I estimate these bits as 1/4 of a terrain cube so 5 points plus 20 for the room gives me 25 for this post and I'm lined up for the Lair of the Spider.

Any Cap'n worth his salt starts drooling at the sight of piles of treasure! I likes the pile of chests and scrolls in particular :-)

From Mike W, Late 17th Century Poles guarding the Pay Chest [The Snow Lords' Treasury] (30 Points) Points)

For this second post of the day, we have a small Vignette of two 28mm Assault Group Poles, each armed with a halberd, guarding the unit's pay chest.

Pay Chest and Guardsmen

I imagine that they are awaiting their officers to show-up and distribute the money during a pay day parade or the like, maybe at the end of a successful campaign!

The two figures are painted in my usual manner, with white undercoat and then colour blocked into eth main areas. Having just done a unit of Ottoman Janissaries, I liked the colour scheme used on these so pretty much copied it for these two little fellows.

A side view of eth chest and two little guys

Only difference was the blue hats and chest braid that I used for the Poles. I added shading with Army Painter coloured inks an then varnished with Windsor & Newton Matt Varnish.

And a final rear view!

The base is 60mm MDF with a scatter of fine sand and electrostatic grass.

AdamC: Snow Lords Treasury (21 Points)

Here we have my offering for the Snow Lords Treasury

This piece started as part of the Dragonborn Sorceress I showed earlier this challenge.  I decided to remove this from the base to use as treasure token for Frostgrave.  I haven't played Frostgrave in a while but its a good game to run for the Cub Scouts and other event where children attend. No such events are on the horizon but there may be a glow of dawn on the horizon.
I added some "gems" from the family craft box to make it pop a little more. I think it will serve nicely . for Frostgrave.  Its a small piece so perhaps 1 point and 20 for the room.  Also I believe my way is now clear to the Snow Lords Alter and I await his pleasure.

From SimonG: 28mm HYW Baggage Train for the Snowlord's Treasury (75 points)

As my offering in the Snowlord's Treasury I present an Impetus baggage train stand as part of my Hundred Years War project. Nominally this is the English train but there is nothing to make it specifically so and it could be swapped with my similar French stand completed earlier this year.

Overall it's a small vignette comprising Perry metals (the mounted rich gentleman), Front Rank (the carts, horses and attendants) and Wargames Foundry (the other two standing figures). WF are notably smaller in scale than the others but still within the range of human stature for a vignette like this.

What I like about this is how well the different personalities came across. From the imperious treasurer himself to the quartermaster checking off the delivery (and no doubt benefiting from some kick backs if his ermine hat and gold rings are anything to go by). I see the other guy behind him as his bodyguard.

Technically it was mostly straightforward if a lot to work with in an enclosed space and a lot to assemble (for me). I liked adding rope ties to the wooden traces to the large cart -- these are simple thread knots superglued over at the end -- synthetic button thread is great stuff to work with and behaves very well with superglue, drying quickly and easy to trim. I added this right at the end and gave it a quick stain for colour.

There are lots of other hidden details that might be actually impossible to see now it's all assembled -- especially the gold rings on the two wealthy figures (a black line with a gold line within it, much easier than trying to outline a gold line, duh!). I also deviated from my usual basing by adding the muddy track but that seemed to suit the vignette.

Anyway I think that's about 75 points -- 20 for the challenge, 15 for three 28mm foot, 20 for two 28mm mounted and lets count the two carts as one 28mm vehicle for a final 20. Onwards to the Lair of the Great Beast and I have something substantial on the go for that!

A lovely job indeed Simon! The posing is spot on and really brings them all together. Take a 5 point bonus

BruceR Snowlord's Treasury Chamber 28mm Pirates (50 pts)

The secrets of the Snow Lord's Treasure eluded the band of adventurers.  No "unpainted" treasures could be found in the bin of lead or resin.  Alas, all painted for prior Frostgrave adventures.  Ahh, my eye lit upon these Chinese pirates from Foundry miniatures, some crates from Bad Squido Games, and an idea was born.

The Spider Tong has waylaid an English steamer and liberated its cargo.  What is this, no gold, no weapons?   Boxes and bags of Opium, the English treasure.  The idea from the Opium Wars with the English carrying it's scourge/cargos to China from India.

30 pts 6 28mm figures

From ScottC: Treasure! - The Snowlord's Treasury submission (47points)

I have had these treasure chests in my pile of shame for about 3 years. I am happy to get them painted and used for fantasy objective markers!

I didn't realize until after, the fourth treasure box has since been rebased. These guys are a very soft plastic that I had to rough up pretty well on the bottom in order to get them to stick to bases. The details are pretty good for the price! (They are all Nolzur DnD miniatures)

5x ~20mm = 20 pts

1x larger pile = 7 pts
