From Millsy: Oathmark Fantasy (440 points)

G'day All,

Second post for me today, and the second large submission I've been working on since the start of this Challenge. It continues my low fantasy human army for Oathmark that I worked on in last year's Challenge. With these additions I'm nearly through all the miniatures I have purchased thus far, with just a number of small cavalry units to go now (more on that to come).

Apologies for the poor photos of some stuff. I'm absolutely knackered at the moment and my attention to detail when taking the pics was suboptimal to say the least. :-P

Warlord and Friends

All metal North Star Miniatures models, from both the proper Oathmark range and also their wider fantasy range. Oathmark doesn't use command stands, with all miniatures meant to be based on 25mm squares if infantry but I can't help myself. I'll just sit this guy behind the unit he's joined for the sake of having something shiny on the table.

The banner is knocked up in Photoshop from free heraldic elements off the interwebs. The king had his head "upgraded" to give him a crested helm in preference to the original mail coif. His bodyguard is  undefeated in single combat and known throughout the land as The Molehill. 15 points.

Assorted Heroes and Spellcasters

All metal North Star Miniatures models, from both the proper Oathmark range and also their wider fantasy range once again. Some will join units as buffs, other roam about creating chaos on their own. 25 points.

Two Infantry Units

A mix of mostly plastic Oathmark miniatures, kit bashed with old Mordheim spares and assorted other things from my extensive bits box. Painting the shields alone took three hours!

I'm reorganising my infantry units, enlarging existing ones as I go so these will be split out to combine with existing units to bring each up to 15 miniatures apiece.

200 points in total.

Engineers and Artillery

Plastic Oathmark miniatures once again, kitbashed with the Fireforge Games Northmen Peasant set to provide engineering tools. These are also my submission for the Studios Under Construction lot. The war engines are 3D printed cheap as chips items from Printable Scenery and the roughness of the PLA printing process kinda works here. 95 points in total including Studios bonus.

Dwarf Linebreakers

These are Oathmark plastics again, but in this instance for my Dwarf army. I'm basing that army for use in other systems too so these will have movement trays for Oathmark. These were cracking fun to paint and I've added a hand painted banner to match the rest of the army. 100 points.

Freebies

Lastly some stuff that was painted before the Challenge but not based until now. No score for these but I thought people might be interested...

Fireforge Games Northmen Folk Rabble kit bashed with Oathmark, Mordheim and more, led by an Oathmark metal heroine. Really enjoyed building these so it's a shame they'll be vaporised in no time most likely.

And some dodgy plastic Russian kids toy Norse warriors, around 60mm tall and painted up as animated stone statues.

So that's a healthy 435 points for my tally all up, which takes me past the 50% mark of my target. Nice!

Cheers,
Millsy

Great work on these Oathmark minis, The kitbashing potential of all of the plastic fantasy kits on the market these days is phenomenal and you have made good use of the options available. I have thrown in a few bonus points for painted shields, banners and for getting your peasants based up and ready to be die in a futile last stand against anything stronger than a stiff breeze.

Don't forget to treat us to a picture of the completed army when you get the last few figures done, I'm sure it will look epic laid out on the table.

From ScottR 15mm Australian Vehicles for NAM by Battlefront. 168 Points

Hi all and here is teh second last of my Australians for the NAM game by Battlefront.  You saw the infantry and in this painting session i managed to get teh vehicles done.  I had them started by basing tehm with a darkish green.  I wasnt very happy with this a sa base so I went back and did them with a black undercoat.

So with the re-undercoating done.  I needed to find a suitable colour.  I did a bit of investigating through teh RAAC Museum in OZ and found that in the 60 the Centurions and M113s which where new to Australia where done in an Olive Drab base.  I wanted one that was a little less brown than a normal Olive drab so i chose the AK Paints version.

I then did the first coat followed by teh first higlight or modulation.  First modulation was the Olive Drab with a bit of sand mixed in.

The second modulation was using AKs Faded Olive Drab.

After the modulaion was complete I then airbrushed the tracks, exhaust pipes and added stowage of jerry cans and baggage etc.  From here the vehicles were taken to the work bench for a bit of touch up and to paint the crew.  Once this was complete.  I sprayed a light mahogany brown around the track areas, sides, front and rear to look like the rtedish dust found in Vietnam from the dark red soil.  I did it fairly light just to add some tone.

Once this was done the vehicles were airbrushed with AKs satin varnish.  This was left to dry so the decals could be added.  The decals were taken from a couple of references.  These included the red and yellow 'Tac' (Tactical plates for the unit and the Green for the !st Australian Task Force or 1ATF.

The next set were a mix of the squadron and troop markings.  The squadron is the yellow circle on the side of the turret.  The troops is the yellow shiled with the red kangaroo.  There is another with a kangaroo holding an umbrella but couldnt find the mpeg to make the decal.

Great work on these pieces of heavy armour, Scott. The various shades on the armour as well as the decals you have applied (those must be pretty difficult to do at this scale), really add a lot of life to the models.
As for scoring, I count 20 vehicles as well as a few commanders sticking out of various hatches, so I have assigned points for those.

From Barks: How to paint chequers (Arthouse) (25 points)

Through some creative backtracking, I arrive at the Arthouse studio. This arty chap is from Hungry Troll Miniatures, and has his handy pot of chequered paint. I painted him to match my 2014 goblins, which was harder than it should have been. As a new technique for this location, I tried a wet palette for the first time. It's a bit too early to judge, but it did make the paints last longer in the blazing antipodean summer.

I have both my security passes now, and am ready for the Snowlord's Challenge!

So THAT's how you paint chequered patterns. I always wondered. I haven't tried a wet palette myself, but I have heard good things about them.

Lovely work on this gobbo and a suitable entry for the Arthouse. I hope the Snowlord is merciful when it comes to setting your Director's Chair Challenge.

ChrisW Gladiators, Supers & Rockettes [445 points]

So, this weeks post came up a little short of what I was aiming for, but I guess it just means more stuff for next week.😁

A rambling note about how I get things done (and all to often do not get things done), my 'style' is chaotic, unfocused and always teetering on the brink of failure. Plans that I might have at the start of the week often change part way in, or even near by end of the week. For example, this week I only decided to work on the supers on Thursday which shunted other projects aside. The other aspect of my approach, not entirely premeditated, is that I tend to work on all projects, even those not scheduled for the current week, all at once. I rarely finish any project before the last possible moment before posting day. The Rockettes in this post is that rare exception, actually started and finished them in the first two days of this past week.

It does keep me from being bored by any one project, but it does mean that my gaming room is cluttered with 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 finished projects. Teetering stacks of boxes and other detritus spill over from the gaming table and the prep tables. One must be nimble to navigate around my room!

So, this week the dreaded deadline caught up with me. I have a number of projects that are almost done, and would just need a bit more time to finish but frankly I just do not feel like staying up into the wee hours of the night, again.

Anyways on to this weeks post. This starts with a limo ride.

Limousine ride

Now that I have access to a blue pass it is time to visit the Sword and Sandals studio. However, first I will need to hitch a limousine ride. For this ride, I submit the following figure.

Sword and sandal studio, those about to die [33 foot, 3 mounted 28mm figures]

Most of these figures are by Foundry with a few Black Tree Design figures thrown in. They were kind of fun to paint and educational. This time around I did a bit of research and discovered aspects of their attire that I did not know about. There are three mounted gladiators, 31 foot gladiators and two lions.

Now you might have noticed that some of the figures have no shields. Perhaps someone in the group can help me. I need someone who is friendly with the hobby gremlins that steal and hide small items. I had the shields with the miniatures, on my desk when I started painting these figures, but those damn gremlins snuck in and stole them!!! So, for now, the Black tree figures and the mounted gladiators are shieldless. No doubt the shields will be released back into my care as the challenge progresses.

Limousine ride

On to another studio, this time the Superhero studio. For the ride to this studio, I submit the following figure.

Superhero studio [16 x 28mm and 4 x 54mm)

Last minute idea to paint up some superheroes/villains. As such I was only able to tackle 16 figures, but thankfully that really cuts into the unpainted supers pile! There is a possible end to at least one genre.

The villains

Two skull headed villains

Scale shot, they are really large figures

These are almost all Old Glory figures, with 2 Pulp Figures thrown in and I am not certain who made the 'Black Widow' figure. Four of them are oversized 54mm figures while the rest are 28mm. For the most part I used contrast/speed/Xpress paints to establish a  shadow/midtone then finished off with normal paints. Some weird figures in this grouping, some very nice sculpts and some not so good.

Independent feature looking for studio backing.

American heroes in the sky! The Rockettes! (WARCs) [10 x 28mm]

The rocket women are Eureka figures, while the other two are not. They are set up as a Pulp Alley league. 1 leader, 1 sidekick, 1 Ally and a gang (the 5 regular troopers). The bazooka team gets used when the league spends gear points for them. They all have fly, even those that are not wearing a rocket pack. I used Speed paints for the pants & leather. The shirts are contrast plague bearer flesh, while the flesh is Vallejo Xpress (as a base) then touched up with Scale75 assorted flesh paints.

Women's Army Rocket Corp (WARC)

Sidekick (Gauge), Leader (Angel), Ally(Rosie)

The gang

Another spectacular batch of minis Chris, I don't know where you find the time to paint so many models. I am in a similar predicament with my hobby room and its state of (dis)organisation. It is just so difficult to stick to any one project long enough to finish it off. There is always something else to paint or a shiny new toy to buy.

All of your figures look great, but I love the bright costumed adventurers and villains in the Supers batch. They remind me of the numerous comics and publishers that sprang up in the 80's/90's with a whole host of new characters.
