DougM - Last Minute Terra, Altair IV & Lune (177 points)

Final effort - it's been fun and I have made my points target.. My final planetfalls will be Terra, Altair with old robots, and a quick Zoom back to Lune.

Old Robots..  well folk will be quick to point out that these aren't actually robots..   demented pepperpots only... And printed and painted as the classic movie Daleks from 1966 and the Dalek invasion of Earth (Terra)

But these are definitely robots, and the wreck on the left s very much the ancient version... more 3d prints, of Bender, for a bit of fun.

Then the final troops for my Sepoy forces...  and changing tides was very much the experience of John Company in India in 1856, these are 3rd Bengal Cavalry, among the earliest of the mutineers at Meerut, qualifying these guys for Lune.

Unfortunately, I have run out of bases for these, so can't claim the full 10 points each, 8 perhaps?

So that's me done..  for points 

7 x 28mm Daleks = 35 (and  Squirrel Point!) even I'm not cheeky enough to claim these as 28mm vehicles for 20 points each...

From TashaH: Travels Through the Inner Ring [Lune][Star Yacht][Altair IV] (70 points)

I’m almost at my goal to finish all the planets. 

I’m currently on the planet of Lune. I can’t imagine a better fit for the theme of ‘Witchcraft and Sorcery’ than an alchemy table. 

 

This table is slightly modified. It is a print from Great Grimoire on myminifactory. It is available as part of the Welcome Pack for their Tribes. It is a 3 piece print. I broke one of the legs taking it off the build plate. Fortunately, I did have this nifty trunk printed off (sorry, I can't figure out where I printed it from) and, as luck would have it, the tabletop fit perfectly on top. I do plan to build the table appropriately, but for now, this works!

 

I’m going to ask for Lady Sarah’s Star Yacht to take me to Altair IV.  

 

This villager is also a print from the Great Grimoire Tribes Welcome Pack on myminifactory.  I’m still learning the intricacies of my new printer and have noticed I’ve messed up a few prints. Unfortunately I didn’t realize how blank her face was until I was almost done with her. She still looks decent from 2 feet! 

 

 

Landing on Altair IV, I happen across this old robot. How fortunate, one more check off the planet list!

 

 

I found this free file on Cults3d. It also came with the fancy, stylized base. It printed very nicely. I utilized my typical painting style of ‘just keep adding more paint until it looks moderately ok’. 

 

We are now heading back to Terra to finish our Challenge journey.

I like your alchemist's table, it looks very realistic (and skully). 3D printing is modern-day alchemy... Your robot has wonderful oxidation effects. I'm rounding you up to 70 points. Almost there on the planets!

Another one from the North Star Silver Bayonet range. This is a French Occultist, so hoping for bonus points for witchcraft/sorcery.

From SimonG: A Seductive Sazae-Oni Out For Your Unmentionables ... (30 points)

 To bring things to a close I offer up another Black Rose Wars figure from Ludus Magnus Studios -- the (what I think is) Sazae-Oni, or snail woman.

Actually she's more of a slug woman as I cannot find her shell (perhaps it's under her kimono!). This certainly led to an odd set of references as you can see

The mythology of Sazae-Oni is that they are temptresses who lure seafarers and then cut off their testicles, or in colloquial Japanese the kin-tama (or "golden balls"!)

Anyway I wanted her to look smart and in keeping and really enjoyed working on the cherry blossom kimono -- lots of time to get a deep and richly shaded base red coat and then details with a fine liner pen for the branches and then impressionistic splotches for the flowers and leaves.  All other colours were picked to match the patterns in the kimono.

Brutal close ups show I messed up the beauty spot over the left eye -- need to go back in with my magnifier and fix this! 

Getting white makeup skin tone is hard work -- GW apothecary white makes a good fondation but unfortunately there's no easy way of correcting errors unlike in more normal skin tones where you can reapply the base and then wash over it -- base and wash in one mean this doesn't work as the contrast paint doesn't cover errors unlike a base coat ... 

I think this lady makes a nice match with Lune -- witchcraft and moody sorcery! So gives me another 25 points (call her a 28mm figure plus the 20 point planet bonus).

From MikeF - World Eater Terminators and Imperial Assassins - Klendathu - Great Abyssal - Terra - Lune - Xanth - Mars (145 points)

I missed the last couple Fridays due to my work schedule, but I was able to paint up a few things. I'll also try to shamelessly mine various planets for some much needed points.

First up is a squad of World Eater Terminators in Cataphractii armor for Horus Heresy. These have shoulder pads from Pop Goes the Monkey and they fit on as one piece. They work really well on the GW kit and they make similar pads for any marine chapter you can think of. 

These guys will be invading Klendathu, for an invasion gone bad. In the fluff, Terminators are written as unstoppable killing machines who drop into the midst of the enemy either by transport or teleporting. They then manage to kill everything with few to no losses. For most editions of Warhammer 40k, Terminator squads routinely failed to live up to their reputation, often dying without making their points back. Keeping in line with this theme, these Terminators will boldly teleport onto Klendathu at which point they will realize they were the victims of a deceitful marketing campaign by GW and die horribly!

The World Eaters badge is integrated into the shoulder pads.

Next I'm taking the Great Abyssal to Terra, home of the Vindicare Assassin Temple. Imperial Assassins come in several forms and do different things on the battlefield. All their temples are on Terra, Throne world of the Imperium in 40K. This one is obviously a sniper and was probably the most useful in the game. I've had this model for close to 25 years and this was probably it's second or third paint job. That's some heavy lifting!

Lune will be represented by the Culexus Assassin. These specialize in hunting and eliminating psykers and other practitioners of witchcraft. I've had this model about as long as the Vindicare, but never managed to paint him. He was just far too specialized to be of use in a game.

Xanth requires a unique talent. The Callidus Assassin certainly has one. They can shapeshift thanks to an assortment of crazy drugs, allowing them to slip into the enemy HQ, issue some ill conceived orders and then eliminate the HQ with their sword which phases in and out of reality. This model was a recent purchase from Ebay and was missing the end of her pony tail which I had to replace with greenstuff.

Finally comes Mars, the God of War. The final Imperial Assassin is the Eversor. There's nothing subtle about this guy and he likely won't survive the mission. He's for when you absolutely have to kill an entire bunker full of people. He's loaded with combat drugs and armed with his bolter/needle gun combo, his Neuro Gauntlet and power sword. Once he finally is killed, the chemicals in his blood become unstable and react explosively, killing anyone who managed to survive up to that point. He was also a recent Ebay purchase and I only had to replace the barrel of the needle gun.

Your Friday Minion is a bit tied up today, and has asked some of us to pitch in while he is away. I thought I would step in between work demands this morning to start with this submission, not only because Mike is a friend, but because his shameless strip-mining of bonus points would fit right in with the scrapers who otherwise appear on Wednesdays...

Very nice work here Mike, as always. Yes, the Terminators are quite useless in the game (although, I must say, the problem is not so pronounced in 30k in my experience) but they just look so darn cool and ominous. These fellows really look the part, and I really like the embossed Legion emblem on their heavy-duty shoulder plating. 

The collection of classic assassin figures is great, and that is some very nice work with the greenstuff. These old models are classics - it is a shame the newer versions of these figures come with such absurd/overwrought/unworkable scenery-diorama-style bases. But who needs those, when you have the classics available - and ones that have been waiting for years and years for some paint. 

145 points for you...for nine figures...not quite Wednesday-level squeezing, but you are on your way...

From RayR - Lune/Sorcery Cooking Man and Haitian Priests (40 points)

 

Finally made it to The Inner Ring, and my first Planet to visit via Arakkis is Lune, I'll be using the Tag Witchcraft/Sorcery.

I first saw the 3 figures in this post on Stuart's blog Dust, Tears & Dice and thought I'll have to get them one day. When I saw the list of planets in the Challenge I ordered them straight away.

I already had the Cooking Man figure from Infinity Engine. Sold as Campfire with Human BBQ! Yum!

I picked that up at a show a few years ago, thinking I might need it one day for the Challenge, and that day has come!

The three North Star figures are from the Dracula's America range

The Mambo, the Bokor,  and the Houngan

A manbo (also written as mambo) is a priestess (as opposed to a oungan, a male priest) in the Haitain Vodoo religion.

A bokor (male) or caplata (female) is a Vodoo witch for hire who is said to serve the loa "with both hands", practicing for both good and evil. Their black magic includes the creation of zombies and of 'ouangas', talismans that house spirits.

Oungan (also written as houngan) is the term for a male priest in Haitian Vodou (a female priest is known as a manbo).

Rear view:

I think this could possibly be a former Plantation Owner, who was rather disliked by his subjects?

The only problem with the figures is they're tiny, as you can see in the photo. I've added a Trent mini

for scale. The North Star figures have already been double based to give them a little more height.

I'm sure they'll mix in well though, the Rejects won't even notice the size difference.  

Rebel/Slave leaders are pretty hard to come by so these will fit in well and become commanders for the Rebel/Slave army.

What better way to shake off the morning doldrums than some magic and some breakfast? I'm know all of us make impulse figure purchases, although combining the fairly common thought of "I might need that for The Challenge" with the purchase of a human being cooked...well, count on Ray to deliver :) 

 

Fine work on these Ray, continuing to add character and interest to your Haitian Revolution project. I'll score the overall, let's call it "cooking base", as a 25mm figure, so five points for that and 40 points overall. Well done Ray. 

 

Now I'm hungry, and I need to find some breakfast.
