For Wednesday: JuanM More Sci-Fic figures! (25 Points)

Here is my third entry, at last. I have been painting in a 1:1 scale so I have had very few time for this task, but here are the next figures:

First one, Hansa, a Security contractor. He is a 28mm character from Warlord Games´ BGA game, a very nice miniature and a perfect character for my "Rogue Stars" games (if I´m able to play one!).

Secondly, one of the clones used for security task in the Astropolis Fleet, member of Hansa team. He is a figure from Haslefree Miniatures:

Then, another figure from Lead Adventure Miniatures´ Astropolis range: an Officer. Great model, very nice and really simple, but with a lot of character.

A Navigator from Colony 87 small range of Science Fiction miniatures. Really, really fine.

And finally, a second Crono-Gladiator from Games Workshop´s Necromunda range. I like a lot these old miniatures, they have lost nothing of their character.

And this is all. In this moment, I am painting Science Fiction models, and enjoying the task a lot, but I am looking at other periods too.

ByronM: Some very good painting here Juan, top notch!  I really like all of the highlights on all of these guys and especially like the skin tone on the first one. All of them are excellent, but the shading and subtly on the first in really good.  That is something I always struggle with as typically shading on skin is either to harsh (done to look good at a distance) or to soft (done to look good close up), yours is a perfect balance between the two (at least in my opinion!).  5 different characters and looks, for a well deserved 25 points.

Hello!

Here is my second entry and the last one for 2016.

I am painting the miniatures from Lead Adventure Miniatures´ Astropolis kickstarter and I can say these miniatures are really nice, crisp and with a lot of character.

The first one is a mechanical from the Engineering deck and the second, an off-duty tech:

I expect to use these figures mainly as NPC in my "Rogue Stars" games, but some of them are going to have a more prominent role...

Then, I have painted a Hasslefree Miniatures Space Goblin:

I think he is going to be a contractor, part of an escort detail for a landing party. Behind him is another Haslefree Miniatures figure I painted some years ago. With his new base, he is now a cyborg from a very dangerous band of cyber-bandits...

Lovely work Juan! Lead Adventure figures are so characterful and you've done a wonderful job with your paintwork. I particularly like the faded blue coveralls on the Engineer - a very subtle, but convincing effect. The Goblin cyborg is eye-catching figure as well. His base is fantastic.

From JuanM. First entry: Science Fiction (10 Points)

Hello.

Here is my first entry for the 7th Challenge. I have enjoyed a pair of days off-duty so I have had enough time to paint them. As usual, they are 28mm and for one of my favorite themes: Science Fiction.

First one, a Doranian ex-Police, a Mark Copplestone´s figure for "Rogue Stars":

The model is very good, clean, with the perfect level of detail and I have ready his profile for the ruleset as an ex-Police...lion (49 XP). He is going to be the first member of an Inquisitorial retinue (Curt, my first figure for our Side Duel if I can use non-GW models (I have a box full of GW models, so no problem with that)).

The second one is a Vandirian Assasin, also a Copplestone figure for "Rogue Stars":

Another very fine model and more "agile" than the first assasin for this range of figures. She is going to be the cover actions agent of the Inquisitorial Retinue (second model for the count, Curt, if you agree...). With a cost of 59 XP, she is not cheap but I think she can be very useful.

And this is all for now. These figures have been very easy to paint, as is usual with Copplestone´s.

Oooh, what lovely painted figures, Juan!  I really like the fur on the Doranian, and you've done a terrific job on the black armour of the Vandirian. That purple knife is ace as well. You've really brought them to life with your brushwork.

Mark Copplestone is a terrific sculptor - a painter's sculptor. He always manages to provide just enough detail for interest, without over-complicating things for the brush. I'm really happy they brought him on to provide the figures for the 'Rogue Stars' range. 

You've stolen a march on me with our Inquisitor/Rogue Stars duel, Juan. I'll have to get moving so I can start to catch up (I think I signed up for too many duels...).

February, already?!!! (25 Points)

Oh my God!!! I have been planning my new terrain board and not painting enough!

We are now in February and I have been unable to paint many figures. In fact, I have my painting table full of half finished models!

Well, at least I have been able to paint some miniatures:

Here is Guillermo form Haslefree Miniatures. A very wealthy barbarian warrior I have been able to finish after a year waiting for its base. Of course, he cannot take part in this Challenge (I began him during the last Challenge...), but I like a lot the model and my painting work on him!

With him there are two new Red Box Games undead souls. All of these models are wonderful miniatures and I´m now in the middle of a problem. I don´t like to mix figures from different manufactures in the same project, so I have some models from Haslefree Miniatures and Red Box Games waiting for my decision. I think I´m going to test "Open Combat" with the Haslefree Miniatures models, they are a bit more solid than the other ones for the game table.

With my choice made, here is Boudie, a young witch  who has Guillermo as her private army. She is a very nice model from Haslefree Miniature.

With her there are the first two models from another very interesting project, a mix of Call of Cthulhu and Pulp I expect to prepare for our club´s new local. I´m going to use the Pulp Figures models I began to paint during the last Challenge, with a lot more I have in my painting box.

As I've said before, these models are a pleasure to paint.

So 25 points for me, I think. Not enough to win my side battle with Phil. He has been very prolific this year, painting really nice figures, but next year will be different!

Lovely, lovely work Juan. Your painting is always excellent, but you've really been hitting these Red Box figures out of the park this year - fantastic stuff. I love the horns on the viking's helmet, and those undead look wonderfully desiccated and macabre.

From my calculations, with this entry included, you have 71 points and Phil is sitting at 90. Now, we'll just have to wait to see if Phil has something new for us today that will bring him to victory, or we'll have to wait until next week to see what happens. I'm wiggling my seat in anticipation!

From JuanM - The Conqueror (5 Points)

A new week with a very small amount of painted figures... And a very small figure this time!

He is Nobba the Conqueror, the Goblin Chieftain from Red Box Games, the new figure I have painted from this excellent sculptor, Tre Manor.

This is a very small figure, with a lot of detail and character, as usual, and I would like to paint more of these Goblins to use them with "Open Combat". I´m now awaiting the release of this ruleset, more useful for my skirmish games than "Dragon Rampant" because there are not necessary too many figures.

I expect that Nobba, a true giant with his folks, give me 5 points for my run with Phil (these figures are not the best option for a side challenge...).

You did a beautiful job on this figure Juan. I particularly like the well-worn spear-tip with the various trophies along its shaft. A very cool mini. I did not know that Red Box is releasing a ruleset - I'm going to keep an eye out for that as well.

From JuanM - Low Velocity Painting (15 Points)

Hello!

Here are three new figures I have been able to paint, with a more common speed, now that my Christmas holidays have finished. 

First one, this is a Roman Auxiliary Centurion from Aventine Miniatures H4H Charity Figures range.

This is a fantastic miniature, really good, and one of the models I am painting as a part of an old, project, II Century Romans of Marcus Aurelius reign.

I would like to use "War & Conquest" from Scarab Miniatures, a rulebook descendant of the, for me, cherished "Warhammer Ancient Battles" ruleset. This Centurion can be the representation of an Strategic Point for the Roman player or as an additional officer for a Legionary unit.

Next one, is a Roman Auxiliary soldier from Aventine Miniatures too with a LBMS shield transfer. He is a test for the first unit of Roman infantry I expect to paint.

I like a lot the helmets of these figures. They add a lot of character to a really limited range of poses. I think I´m going to put the figures in individual bases, the ones the ruleset recommend.

And the last one, another Red Box Games miniature. This time, an Aelfar, Mordred Wyrmsbane.

What can I do about these figures? They are wonderful, a pleasure to paint. This time, I wanted to paint this figure as a sophisticated warrior, a Prince in full armour to mark a difference with the wild Barbarians I have.

Now, this is time to paint faster; Phil is approaching fast too!


Fantastic work Juan. Your paintwork is so clean and precise, while your colour blending is no slouch as well. I'm particularly impressed with the armour on all these figures, especially the leaf scale on the Elf warrior. This may be low-velocity painting but with 'high impact'. Just beautiful.

After a short break celebrating Christmas Day, here is my next entry in The Challenge, Brynda the Beautiful (because she is not bearded, I think), a female Dwarf warrior from Red Box Games/Haslefree Miniatures.

She is another small gem from Tre Manor´s hands whose painting I have enjoyed a lot. The base is from Scibor Miniatures.

Here is another picture of the shield with an small Smaug in the middle of a barbecue:

This brave small warrior can give me 5 points, I think. Some more lead in my fight with Phil...

Nice one  Juan! She is a lovely casting to be sure. I like the armour colour you've given her. It reminds me of Boromir's from The Lord of the Rings. 

This figure will give you a base of 5 points but I'm throwing in another for the excellent painted shield design. Lovely work Juan -  Three entries in a week?! You're on fire!
