From Kerry T - A final post - P is for Pestilence - (220 points and 4 Squirrels)

Morning, afternoon and evening all for the last time this year

I must say I feel a bit sad here on a Sunday evening here in NZ with this my last post for this challenge.

Before I say anymore I want to say an huge thank you to you all for your support. I don't think that I've ever had so much fun painting figures, nor for that matter remember a time when I've been so productive. 

Much of that has been down to the buzz and fun I've had from not only painting and posting, but from looking forward to seeing what others have conjured up. The fact that my golf has gone to ruin and the garden needs so much attention is down to you lot. Like many of you have mentioned, I have one regret and that is  having not had quite enough time to leave comments on many of the superb and varied pictures of the entries posted by my fellow participants

Its hardly fair to single anyone out but it would be remiss if I did not say a heartfelt thank you to Curt for not only accepting my entry but also managing my Sunday posts and being so kind in his comments and feedback.  Huge thanks  must be said to all the minions for their hard work and constant entertainment, not only have you that but you've had to produce your own entries as well! How have you managed that? Thank you

I really have enjoyed looking at so much of what has been offered here, I mean for God Sake I'm a diehard historical gamer but Greg B's 40K stuff has got my "oh look shiny" eye roving over GW stuff for the first time ever and Millsy's cars have me wanting to soup up my X-trail, add a few accoutrements and head to the badlands. Tamsin's got me wanting a dog again and I must get a 3D printer! That's just a few side effects of being in such good company for 3 months!

Anyway before I get too sentimental, I've had a few glasses of wine and could be considered to be "tired and emotional" sniff, I best get around to what I'd intended, sniff...

So here is my P is for Pestilence post - I must confess that I actually don't have any figures covered with sores or any plague doctors but a few days ago I ended up with a cough and felt a bit knackered. Covid is finally having an impact here in NZ so I couldn't go to work but I'm well again and  PCR and RAT negative. The end result was that I had 2 days away from work so took the opportunity to paint a few more figures and so allow me to produce an additional entry

To date my theme for the challenge was units with a connection to the letter P - peasants, pious, pointy sticks, pike & shotte, prancing, parliament, polished,Perry Miniatures, personality, plastic, pagan and finally posh. 

I felt the theme should continue so this time my pestilent offerings are those that didn't quite make the cut in the original twelve Ps

P is for Palestine

Woodbine design British infantry many in Wolseley helmets for Palestine WW1, I think I bought these at Salute in 2010 maybe

Yes I know I should have bought them in shorts

Not exactly in desert terrain are they  but I managed to paint them up quite quickly having started yesterday

A word of advice, do not watch Lawrence of Arabia or The Light Horsemen

This project has almost died a death, this was a LAF LPL entry in 2011 when I first painted some of these figures I bought, they've languished since I'm ashamed to say

The shame is they've never been finished or gamed with, I'd always been looking for a suitable train that Lawrence and his men could sabotage but have never found one -don't you dare!

P is for Pandour never made the P cut either

P is for Prussian is my last offering, one of the companies in a Grenadier regiment that will be 24 figures strong (eventually!)

From MartinC Dunsterforce and some Ottomans to fight (187.5pts)

 Evening all

So I am now in Tier 4 and the hospitals are full. All is about to get very messy, again. Luckily my hobby keeps me inside. I was listening to the Wargames Soldiers and Strategy end of year podcast today, one of the few I occasionally listen to as it hosted by Angus, a friend, member of my club and along with the rest of the crew a participant in this illustrious event. I was unexpectedly mentioned in dispatches, which was nice, and specifically about the current project.

So Angus yes I will play WW1 with you, eventually. To keep you on your toes I've finished the Dunsterforce. 

This is the last unit (although I may increase it's size). These are are 1/2 section of 9th Hussars with dismounted figures as well. Actually they are Perry WW2 British Yeomanry but you can't tell the difference really.

I will at sometime show the lot but it has 5 infantry sections, 1/2 cavalry section, 2 HMGs, and already painted 2 field guns, 2 armoured cars and a plane. If it does grow it won't be by much. Normally we play Bolt action and 20 units per side takes all day to play. These will have cossack and Armenian support. That being said I've already ordered some Anzac types to go full WW1.

So they need somebody to fight, and in this case it's Turks and the Army of Islam. Although there were Bolsheviks vs Cossacks vs Turks and Azerbaijanis vs Germans and Georgians vs Brits and Armenians vs Jangalis. Everybody's dance card was full - the Germans even fought the Turks.

These figures are Gripping Beast, from Woodbine Designs, and I picked them up in their sale pre Christmas. They are lovely and nice to paint

However they are very fragile - about 6 have already lost their bayonets and muzzles and 2 broke on the stand as I have clearing them up. I have loads of these to paint

From JonathanO: Scary Scarecrows (Golem's Haunt) 40 points

 Here are 4 scarecrows that have come to life and left the farmer's field.  They are striding through a meadow, not caring which rare wild flowers they tramp on.  No doubt they are going to cause quite a stir when they reach the nearby village.

These scary scarecrows are from Gripping Beast's Woodbine Design Company range.  They should be useful for a number of games.

Points:  4 x 28mm figures = 20.  Plus the Golem's Haunt bonus of 20 = 40 points in total.

Now on to the even more scary Chamber of Darkness.

From Rob Hingley - Have TARDIS, Will Travel (95 Points)

This is my first submission to the IX painting challenge.  It consists of 1 vehicle (The Tardis) and 15 x 28mm figures for a total of 90 points (See below, Rob - you may be pleasantly surprised - Ev).

Doctor Who is a favorite Sci-Fi choice for many gamers I know to watch. I believe we choose our favorite Doctor to be the one(s) to whom we were introduced in childhood.  Mine were the first two, which aired in Canada on the CBC in the mid-1960s.

I wasn't introduced to the Tom Baker years until sometime in the mid 1980s as re-runs on PBS.

As I wrote my introduction was to the first two doctors. A simple presentation of
a Tardis, based upon photos from the original series, with the simple word POLICE in black lettering above the door.

The TARDIS was a Constabulary Communications Cabinet produced by Ainsty Castings as part of their Professor What line. They are a great source of resin terrain pieces.

Three figures, two in homage to the first Doctor, played by William Hartnell, Richard Hurndall and David Bradley. The third figure represents the 2nd Doctor played by Patrick Troughton. I believe the figures were produced by Crooked Dice as part of their Temporal Traveler Series which I think is no longer available.

(Note: In the comments the Doctors were identified as being from Black Tree Design's Dr Who range. Black Tree is definitely one of my go to sources for miniatures.)

Next is a group of 12 Scary Scarecrow figures from the episode Family of Blood which aired in 2007. These figures were purchased from the Woodbine Design Company through Gripping Beast.

I wanted to keep these figures drab using various earth tones, but in the end decided to add just a splash of colour to a few of the figures.

The light was not the best this morning 45 mins after sunrise. I had hoped to take the photos yesterday but I spent the best part of the sun either on Skype or the phone. Happy New Year to one and all.

Note: I was able to get a couple of photos taken before I left for the office and have replaced the earlier ones of the Scarecrows.

Cracking work on this assemblage of figs, Rob, though as a 28mm vehicle, the TARDIS now scores 20 points. The fact that the TARDIS is much bigger on the inside can have no bearing on the final score (hey, I don't make the rules...).

As a long-time Doctor Who fan, I can only approve of this submission. The Family of Blood two-parter was one of my absolute faves, and the scarecrows were a wonderfully chilling addition to the roster of bad guys in the Whoniverse.

So that's an opening salvo of 95 points, well done that man!
