From ColeF: Open The Pizza Dungeon! (110 points)

      We were getting real close to that mid January cut off for first submissions (Sloth? Is that you!?) and I frantically spent the last two nights painting.

    First, we have an old Wizkids cannon I've had sitting on my desk for almost 5 years, primed, but never completed. I challenged myself to go from primed to fully painted in a half hour, since it's mostly just a prop piece. Even though I'm not totally happy with it, I'm glad I got it off the bench, and out of LIMBO.

Not my best work, but definitely my quickest.

    Next up, is a Reaper Bones Rakshasa, one of the main villains, Vimanda, of my Pathfinder Curse Of The Crimson Throne campaign. Sadly, I had never gotten around to painting her before the campaign came to a conclusion! She was one of the main string pullers, using her guiles to appear as a beautiful woman, make men LUST after her, then force them to do her bidding.

    Last, but not least, I pulled out some "Pizza Dungeon Animatronics" from Reaper. Personally, I'm a GLUTTON for pizza, and could easily eat one or two in a sitting, and imagine the Pizza Dungeon is a pretty tasty place to be.

Sylvain: This is a great start of the challenge for you! In one post, you knocked off 3 infernal locations. You really nail it when it come to painting metal, the shades are nicely graded. Your Rakshasa is also very well balanced in tones and hues. Because of its size, I gave counted your cannon as a 54mm mini, thus 20 points for a total of 110 well deserved points!

From Rhunt - Fantasy and Sci-Fi ( 140 pts)

This week is a mix of Sci-fi (Star Wars Legion) and Sci-Fi. First off I'm finally done with the elves. This is the wizard for them. She was really hard to paint.

There is so much detail on this model. I tried really hard to make her look right but she was very hard. Dad showed me a sculpture where it looks like she is wearing something over her face and this model has the same thing. (edit: the Veiled Virgin by Giovanni Strazza)

She has parts of the model going in all different directions.

I'm really glad to have the elves done. I was saving this one for last because she made me so nervous with how hard she'd be to paint.

Next up is an elf that I'm using for Pathfinder and a knight in a bucket helm.

The elf is an Oathmark elf my dad gave me and let me build by myself. I used one of the shields from the GW elves.

The knight is a Bones model but the other one is really cool. My dad got a lot of Oathmark models and I really like elves.

This is a Bones bandit or rogue. he's out in the snow, so I put snow on the base and on his hood/cloak thingy.

I was surprised that we had snow cover but Dad found an old package of GW snow that I was able to use for this model.

This next one is a metal miniature. She's going to take me on the library cart from the first room to the Sci-Fi section.

Dad didn't know he gave me this one. (Editors note: I did not, in fact, give him this one, wretched child. She is a great model though so I understand why he grabbed her).

 

We think this one is a rogue from the Rangers of Shadow Deep line. She's really cool. 

Next up is more Bones. These are all female models that dad gave me. They are also in the snow/winter.

I was all over the place this week. I also have some more role playing models.

The Tortle and viking go with the rogue. Dad printed these for me.

The last entry is some Star Wars Legion models. This is two commanders, a crashed X-Wing pilot and some droids. Dad made me go back and add more paint to the commanders.

Great job Rhys, and a lovely collection of models once again. I think the extra time put on the commanders was well worth the effort, though would also remind you to paint the base rims a similar color to bring harmony in the army. It adds extra Universal Force to your gaming, something very helpful in Star Wars gaming I hear. 

Some great bits here to pick out though. Especially the elves' veil work. Not an easy thing to do, but great effort here. Can see what you were trying to achieve which is all that matters!

And the snow effect on Bones. Great use of the GW snow flock. Could suggest to help push it more, is to add a bit of light grey or light blue paint to the areas that you will add the flock. It will emphasis the snow effect, and give it some extra depth. 

Smashing through the models (legally acquired or not) and the sections as well. Great job.

From Rhunt - Space Marines, Elves and odds and sods (135 pts)

 This entry is mostly Space Marines. I also have some more of the yucky to paint elves. I'm also adding my second Denethor model, a Greek hoplite and some Chaos Dwarf (Abyssal Dwarf) artillery.

First up are more of my new Space Smurf army.

My dad got me this model in Canterbury when he was in the UK in 2022. He built if for me right before the Challenge.

I can switch out the weapons but only painted this one so far.

I think I want decals but I haven't decided yet.

My next model is a High Elf archer. I still don't like these models. I can't wait to be done painting them.

Next up is a Reaper Bones model my dad gave me. He might be an elf warrior for Pathfinder of just another fighter.

I liked painting him better than the archer.

Next up is five more Space Marines. These are a lot of fun to paint and I like these models a lot. My dad didn't mind putting them together as much as he did the elves.

I also finished another five elves. The first archer was done last Sunday and I finished these on Friday.

Next up is another Denethor model. This one is brand new. My dad went to Warhammer World three weeks ago and got his one for me. Now I have two but this one is when he is trying to burn himself and Faramir and is rescued by Gandalf, Pippen and Beregond. This is for the Front Desk and New Acquisitions.

Next up is a Greek hoplite that my dad gave me. He said the Warlord hoplites suck and I'll hate painting it. He was right. But it was easy. This got me the history desk.

The last model is an Abyssal Dwarf (Chaos Dwarf) flame thrower crew from Mantic Games. My dad and I play Kings of War and my army is Chaos Dwarfs. This guy rolls 15 dice so it's really scary.

Great work here Rhys, and a variety of pieces on display here! I also have issues with Elf models (too clean blah!) but you have done a great job getting through them. Love the Chaos Dwarf ( and who doesn't like a Chaos Dwarf! ) and hope to see more of them in the challenge!

If I could offer a piece of advice on the models, and its mostly personal preference, would be to paint the rim of the bases of the models a single color once the model itself is finished. Either in a straight black, an old school goblin green, or a color matching your gaming table. It will help to bring another layer of cohesion in an army or squad. 

Looking forward to more paint bombs like this one in the future!

From Rhunt - A mixture of models (20 pts)

This is my second entry to the Challenge. I painted four different things this time. Some fantasy and some sci/fi. 

First up is the commander for my High Elves.

Very fancy model. I wanted him to stand out with gold.

I tried some dry brushing on the shield to bring out the designs. I think I need more practice but I liked it.

The next entry is another space marine. I love Ultra Marines so this is one of them.

The next thing is a fantasy fighter. He's a Bones model that Dad gave me.

The last model is a Chewbacca from Imperial Assault. He's not the right size or base for Legion but I still wanted to get him painted.

Those four models are my work for the last few days. I'll have more soon.
