From StuartL - Near Earth Orbit - Terra and Lune - 54 Points

Hello fellow challengers.

Just the one post from me this week as work has been keeping me pretty busy. On my previous trip round the challenge sector, I cleared the middle ring and so now I am making my way down into the Inner Ring. Hanging a sharp turn as I descend through the Great Abyssal, I'm tackling the Inner Ring counter-clockwise and starting with a brief trip home to Terra.

According to Warhammer 40K lore, after the Emperor was interred into the Golden Throne following the Horus Heresy, his bodyguards, The Legio Custodes, spent the next 10,000 years hanging around the Imperial Palace on Earth doing next to nothing. I can't imagine it would have been a particularly fulfilling job standing guard over an immovable subject at the centre of the most heavily fortified system in the galaxy. But the pay is probably pretty good and it's all indoor work with almost no overtime, so there are some positives to it. I think 10,000 years on the planet counts as 'Earthbound' for the challenge requirements.

The figure was painted up in brass and then drybrushed with a brighter gold and given a sepia wash before all the detail was painted in. As most of the armour detail is also gold, it was a quick model to finish. The figure is pretty bulky, standing a head taller than other 40K models.

With that quick stop off at Terra done, it's a visit to Lune next. The theme here is witchcraft and sorcery, so I had a look for something suitable in my various mini boxes. While I do have some witches and some sorcerers, I found something a little different in one of my Reaper Bones boxes. A goblin shaman. Fantasy stories are replete with druids, rangers and their various animal companions, but largely they dwell in the forests and roam the wilderness. But what happens when they are one of the dregs of society, eking a living in the middle of a big city and surviving on scraps. The figure I chose is dressed in rags and has a large spider crawling up it's back, so I got a feeling that it was some kind of vermin handler, so I dragged out some rat figures to go with it. So I present my Gutter Shaman.

The shaman herself is a Reaper mini, the big rat is from the old D&D miniatures wargame and the small rat is a resin figure I had picked up from somewhere. The cobblestones on the base were made from modelling putty rolled into small balls and squished down onto the wooden base.

So, for these two entries, I have:
1x 40mm Custodian - 7 points.
1x 20mm Goblin - 4 points.
1x 15mm Rat - 2 Points
1x 10mm Rat - 1 Point
2x Locations - 40 points.
For a grand total of 54 Points.

There is also 1 Skull for my ongoing side duel.

Skullz Total 105

- A request for the minion/admin team.

Would it be possible to up my challenge target to 2000 please?  ✅ I have made it so!

I am sorry that there's is only one post this week Stuart, you  normally bring some nice work to the blog. However, I'll be happy with the lovelies that you've presented here.

I'd take 10,000 years on light guard duty over most army jobs in the 40K universes and totally buy the earthbound theme.  I also like the scuzzy looking goblin sorcerer, I think that the Giant Rat might be better company.  Nice posing and basing on the figures, and nice to see the old figures get new life.

From StuartL - 10,000 Years of Guard Duty - 27 points

Hello again. Having cleared the Gallery of Ancestors, we pass into the Guardroom, where we are looking to find some guards of some kind. Looking through the to-do piles, I came across the perfect security guard, an Adeptus Custodes from the Warhammer 40,000 setting. Genetically engineered to be faster, stronger and more deadly than any other being short of a Primarch, the Custodes are the personal bodyguards and palace wardens for the God-Emperor of Mankind.

While the Space Marines are our crusading around the galaxy, it's up to these golden armoured warriors to protect the single most important man in the Imperium. As the Emperor has been sat on his life support throne for the best part of 10,000 years, there isn't an awful lot of work to do. Functionally immortal, the Custodian Guard must have worn the floors of the Imperial palace away to nothing during their daily patrols. Obviously part of their genetic engineering must have been to remove their ability to become bored.

Clad in the finest armour and equipped with the fearsome Guardian Spear, (it looks more like a Glaive if you ask me), complete with an integral bolt gun, for when you need to shoot the guy you're chopping up, each Custodian is a supremely skilled and deadly warrior.

Also of note is that they are huge, even when compared to regular marines. This figure is on a 40mm base and stands head and shoulder taller than the tiny Ultramarine by his side. As such, I have scored him as a 40mm mini. I have 9 more of these golden chaps somewhere in my stash, so this mini is my test piece for the colour scheme I want to use. I was a bit hesitant about painting the golden armour, but it came out okay I think.

Anyway, 7 points for the mini plus 20 for the chamber should add 27 to my overall total. It also adds to my GW side duel. Strangely this figure has ZERO skullz. I don't know what GW's sculptor was thinking when he made this mini.

My Running Duels Totals:
GW Points - 287
Skullz - 100
Squirrels - 4

From JohnP - 28mm Burch's Bluff Legio Custodes Caladius (50 pts)

It's been quite a while since my last post. My apologies. I recently completed a commission for a good friend of mine. We're heading to Adepticon in a little less than a month, and I've got to get another one of these painted up for him as a commission! Yikes! Commission work pretty much sank my ability to focus on AHPC, unfortunately, but I've learned a great deal from the experience. Hopefully I can get a few more things in before the competition concludes. Comments and criticisms are welcome.

I'd like to saunter over to Burch's Bluff, because this here Caladius Tank is the workhorse of the Legio Custodes vanguard armies. It served admirably when the Wolf King and his sons scoured Prospero with the aid of the silent sisters and the Legio Custodes. It continues to earn glorious reputation in battle some 10,000 years later.

Comments and feedback are always welcome. Thanks for looking!

Awesome looking tank here!  The model is great and has a very sci-fi almost Buck Rodgers pulp look to me.  I also love the effective use of the unit colours in the front panels against the gold of the rest of the model.  Also the gun heat effects at the end of the barrel are top notch.  I wish you guys luck at Adepticon!
