From TomL: The final Lances (60 points)

I will be back for one last post this challenge but this is the last stompy robot post.  Squeezed more painting time in last weekend than expected and finished the remaining lances of Battletech I was given to paint.  

First off is another unit of Bluestar Irregulars:

Followed by a generic inner sphere scout lance:

 

Finally a Stormhammer lance for the Lyran Rangers:

 

Since all these mech's will be heading home to their owners this weekend, I figured a AHPC16 class picture was in order:

From TomL: More Strikers (20pts)

You guessed it, another Battletech unit.  This is my second painted in the Steiner Striker colors - red with an vague inverted triangle shape in white. 

 

A black wash over the base Vallejo Italian red followed by a TTC red triad highlights. The inverted triangle areas were painted grey, then titanium white with contrast basilicom wash. 

Hoping to finish at least one more CSA ACW unit but painting time has been consumed by unexpected work this month.

From TomL: More Legion of Death (25 points)

This is the second Lance of the challenge painted as the Grey Death Legion. This unit has no battalion indicators but we do have more decal skulls!

 

As before, base colors are from the Vallejo Model Air range, while the weathering and weapons were done with Vallejo metal & model colors. The cockpits were finished with Tamiya clear orange.  The tiny death head skull decals are from Fighting Piranha Graphics.

Sylvain: You are so consistent with the quality of your paint job when painting these robots that I would really like to see a picture of the whole collection, or maybe some robots in action during a game. I love the japanese banner (sashimono) on the back of one of  your robot. It elevate the style of your lance. Bien joué! 

 

 

From TomL: BattleTech Steiner Strikers & 19th VI (142 points)

First up is another Battletech unit.  These are painting in the Steiner Striker colors - red with an inverted triangle in white. 

These were 3D printed to plug the gap in a friends Catalyst KS collection.  Some of the details were a touch shallow so I did a black wash over the base red followed by a red & slightly orange highlight. The inverted triangle areas were painted grey, then white with a final contrast basilicom grey to add some depth.

Finally got a chance to finish one of the ACW CSA units I started while on vacation. This is the 19th Virginia:

 

As before, the base colors are done with contrast paints, details and highlights used Vallejo & TTC acrylics with a final coat of Vallejo Game wash.

From TomL: Grey Death Legion (20 points)

This is the first Lance of the challenge I plan to paint as the Grey Death Legion.  The green (mostly round) circles indicate this is the second battalion.

 The base colors were from the Vallejo Model Air range, while the weathering and weapons were done with Vallejo metal & model colors. The cockpits were finished with Tamiya clear orange.  The tiny death head skull decals (11!) are from Fighting Piranha Graphics.

Sylvain: Tom, your camouflage on these miniatures is just well balanced, just a few small spots of darker color but it immediately says: "military". The decals add a nice touch and your golden color cockpits give the feel of a scifi world. Bravo!

 

 

 

 

From TomL: Olson's Raiders (20 points)

This BattleTech unit is another lance painted in Olson's Raiders colors using the disc camouflage stencil.   

 

 

Base colors were Vallejo Model Air, the weathering and weapons were done with Vallejo model colors. The cockpits were finished with Tamiya clear.

From TomL: Somerset Strikers (25 points)

Continuing on with my attempts to use different stencils I have my second  BattleTech unit.   This is the “Somerset Strikers” lance.  Their normal camouflage is a yellow tiger stripe over black.  At this scale using the tiger stripe stencil was a failure. I repainted using the disc camo stencil and cleaned up the black manually.  I am happy enough with the final result but the stripe stencil is going back in the model drawer.
 

 

Base colors were Vallejo Model Air, the weathering and weapons were done with Vallejo model colors. The cockpits were finished with Tamiya clear.

From TomL: BattleTech (20 points)

Most of my time last week was absorbed by the Empire theme but I did finish my first stompy battlemech post of this AHPC.  This Catalyst BattleTech unit is painted in Olsons Raiders color scheme.  This is my first of several planned units using various recently purchased stencil camo patterns. 

As my first attempt at using stencils with my airbrush it was quite a learning experience.  Mostly due to my relative inexperience with airbrushing and a bit of a shake in the stencil holding hand. I am happy enough with the final result for the "disc" camo.  

 

The “third hand” magnetic holders attached to my exhaust hood really made it possible.  I used AK Duo Exo purple release paints at first.  Both colors are excellent base/primer coats but failed miserably to spray through my finer airbrush nozzle.  Switching to similar colors in Vallejo Air line was a much better experience using the camo stencil.  Finished up with various Vallejo acrylics and Metallics on the details and a drybrush of Deck Tan for weathering.

Miniatures in the battletech miniature lines vary in size by quite a bit but to keep it simple have been scored as 28 mm.  So for points:

4 BattleTech figures at 5 points for 20 points.
4 Stompy Mech Duel points

Sylvain: You make me want to collect Battletech figurines! Your attempt at using your airbrush for camo proved fruitful. I like when Challengers share new techniques, it means that the hobby is alive and evolving. These new additions will certainly bring doom to rival clans! Bravo!

 

From Sander: The Last post? (45 points)

 Hoi,

This might well be my last official entry  for this year's Challenge, I am trying to get one more in, but it will be tricky.

Anyway I have two different subjects for you today. First up are 5 more Stompy Robots or Battlemechs. I have painted these in the colours of the Northwind Hussars who are part of the Northwind Highlanders Mercenary Regiment. 

On the left lower leg I tried to depict the unit's Tartan 

While on the right leg I painted the personal Tartan of the pilots.

The second subject is my proxy for the Warhammer Empire Steamtank; I do not own an official model (yet) but this resin print is a very nice proxy I think. The looks of a wooden landship fits in nicely with the Lustria theme I envisage for my Dogs of War army and hence I have painted it in their reds and yellows. 

My favourite feature is the crew member dangling from the ladder trying to shoot a would-be assailant. I bought this as a secondhand rescue project and it turned out amazing in my opinion. Apart from providing some heavy support I intend to use it as a mobile trophy rack, when gaming. I will try to embellish the tank with shields, banners and heads from spare parts from the enemies it fights and defeats. These will be glued to it's sides after the battles.

A quick count of points says 5 x 28mm is 25 + 1 vehicle in 28mm is another 20 points for a total of 45 points.

Wow, wonderful work Sander! While the mechs are all very cool in their armoured glory and highland regalia, I have to say that your steamtank takes the ribbon here. Lovely brushwork on the hull and its various fittings (the smokestack finial-thingy is awesome). I agree with you that the chef's kiss of the model is the crewman optimistically hanging from the side (great work on his puff and slash uniform). A great basis for your future 'trophy rack'!

Finally, thank you for showing us your hard work over the course of the Challenge. I very much look forward to you and Arthur's round up photos!
