From RayR Donnybrook - Vienna 1683 - Polish Dragoons 135pts

 

Well, it wouldn't be a proper Painting Challenge with one of my Donnybrook entries now would it?

So just to keep you all happy.....here's one!!!

My green coated Polish Dragoons were prepped and undercoated at the start of Challenge 12 in 2021!!!

Isn't that bad that its taken me until now to put some paint on them?

My 9 Polish Dragoons, painted up for my Donnybrook Allied Army for the Relief of Vienna in 1683.

Check out my last post from March 2022, where I painted some Polish Command figures.

The figures are from Reiver Castings and were a joy to paint.

I'll be using the chap in the centre holding his pistol in the air.

There 9 figures will give me 90 points.

Then we also have the dismounted version of the Dragoons.

Unfortunately at the time Reiver didn't have a dismounted Dragoon figure, (not sure if they ever did)

So I had to fall back to my old favourites, Essex Miniatures.

A you can see, my leader is wearing a clock on the dismounted version and not on the mounted version.

I could have sculpted a cloak on the mounted version, but couldn't be arsed!

And here they are all together, the 45 points for the foot figures will be added to the 90 points for the mounted giving me a total of 135 points!!

From DaveD - I wondered when the Donnybrook would kick in properly . They do look fine figures and a grand paint job Ray .135 it is . The only thing left for you to do now is sandbags isn’t it 😆

From Ray R - The Last Post - Donnybrook Generals 20pts

 

Well its finally here, the last few hours of the Challenge.

I shall finish with these two Reiver Castings Generals.

Both will be used for my evergrowing, never finishing Donnybrook love affair.

The chap on the left is still a tad shiny, because the varnish isn't dry yet.

A wonderful parting shot to end your Challenge, Ray. Two armed guys wearing wigs on horses. What's not to love?  We're going to have to set up another online Donnybrook game for you to run for us. We have to see some of these lovely models actually being used. I'll keep an eye out on your blog to see if it happens.

Same time next year Mr Rousell? I hope so.

From RayR - Cosucant/Imperial - Imperial Austrian Cuirassiers 100pts

 

From the Vogshere and my Clergy its a quick trip to my last planet on the middle ring.

My trip takes me to Corsucant where I'll be using the Imperial tagline to get my next Donnybrook fix.

 The Imperial tag turns into an  Imperial Austrian Cuirassier regt

The regiment is that of Conte Aena Silvio Caprara who took over as the head of the regt in 1663.

The regt was raised in 1629 and  formally known as Piccolomini d'Aragona, the Duca d'Amalfi, before being taken over by Luigi Geronimo Conte Caprara in 1656.

In 1683 they were in camp at Pressburg in Hungry, then were called to be part of the relief force at Vienna.

The figures are from Reiver Castings and the flag is from the book Uniforms and Flags of the Imperial Austrian Army 1683-1720, by Robert Hall and Giancarlo Boeri. Sadly unavailable from the Pike & Shot Society.

As for the points....

8 x 25mm Cavalry figures @ 10 pts each = 80 points

20 points for the Corsucant Bonus

Total 100 pts

But I had no standard bearers, so.........

This chap was going to be a post on his own, but as you know we're all running out of time. Here we have a Warlord figure representing Alisdair 'The Devastator' Mac Colla

Most of my Scottish force are Redoubt figures, which a on the larger side of large, so this Warlord figure fits is really well, he'll be used as a character or commander.

So 4 x 25mm figures will add a further 25 points to my total. 

From RayR: Sarah's Balloon Ride No2 (5pts)

Its time for my second ride on Sarah's Balloon, my fee is this Reiver Castings (I think) figure of a mother holding her baby. So in honour of fellow Challenger TomM, and his 

new arrival may I present 

Mrs M and Thorin.

My journey in Sarah's Balloon will hopefully  take me from Sander's Sandhill to Piper's Peak.

We've had no water at the brewery since Monday morning, which is bad news for a brewery, so no new beer and no Tea either, and certainly no Champagne, so I've had to put up with some good ol' Adam's Ale instead for my Balloon ride!

So a quick and easy 30 points for the Balloon ride and another 5 for the figure.

Nice try Ray, but you only get 30 points for your first balloon ride (and 10 points for your 3rd, 6th, 9th, etc) so just the five points for Mrs M and Thorin.

From RayR - Donnybrook - Master of Hounds & Bard (25 points)

Yes I know.....more Donnybrook!

But you can never have enough of a good thing....right?

In the Highlander army list in Donnybrook, one of the characters you may use is

"The Master of Hounds"

The Scots figure is a standard bearer from pack SKU : JFR20 in Reiver Castings Jacobite range.

With his left arm chopped off a repositioned.

I wasn't sure how and what to use for the dogs lead or whether or not to have one at all.

In the end I went with some plane and simple fuse wire.

Which I think works pretty well?

The Hounds are from Gripping Beast pack PCT14 Pict pack Master & Hounds

"The Master of Hounds controls a pack of hunting dogs bred by the Clan. He is armed with a short sword and controls 3 dogs. When they attack the player rolls a d3. The result is the number of dogs who lunge that turn. Add the Master to the attack. So at full strength there will be 4 attacks, while the minimum is 2. The dogs do not check morale when taking casualties and fight to the death. If the Master loses all his dogs he fights on alone.
When attacking, any dog throwing a 1 has gone wild and turns on its own side. If a Unit or Character other than the Master is withing 12 inches in immediately attacks the them. If none are present the dog turns on the Master. Enemy characters attacked by the hounds must throw a 6+ on their activation die to fight back as they may be terrified by the beast. Shooting at the dogs from any distance further than 6 inches can be done as normal but shooters re roll any hits. Dogs are a fast moving and a low profile target. Shooting at dogs within 6 inches requires the 6+ score to overcome the proximity fear but there are no "to hit" minuses. Dogs have the same ability as their Master."

The only trouble is he looks a little lost without the dogs!

Another character in the Highlander list is the Bard.

"The Bard inspires the clan through his recording and retelling of their incredible deeds and heroism. He recites before during and after the action in verse and song. He must be attached to a unit. It moves up one Ability die type (e.g: Recruit are d8 instead of d6). If the enhanced Unit fails a morale check it reverts to its original Ability level. The Bard's gifts do not affect other Characters. The Bard is armed with a sgian dubh, a silver tongue and a melodious timbre!"

The figure is also from the same pack as the dogs, he is infact a Pict Master of Hounds!!
But I thought he'd fit the Bard character better, as he looks unarmed and doesn't look the
warrior type??

Points wise.......2 x 25mm figures is 10 points and whatever our luvvly Minon wants to give me for the 3 Hounds plus a little conversion work????

The dogs are reasonably big, so I'll score those as 28mm foot -1/3 point each, then I'll add a point for the Bard's plaid. That will give you 25 points.

From RayR - Donnybrook: 25mm Heroes & Villains (50 pts)

My second entry for today and we have 4 x 25mm Commanders, for my Donnybrook shenanigans.

Here we have Bonnie Prince Charlie, from the very new range of figures from Ian over at Flags of War. He's a great sculpt with no flash what-so-ever. I've never bought a figure that fits so snug on his horse.

Charlie boy will be winging his way over to my Dad's figure collection and will join the other figures I've painted for him as pressies over the years. 

Next, we have the ill-fated John Graham, the Laird of Claverhouse, 1st Viscount Dundee or Bonnie Dundee as he is more widely known.

Dundee (not 'crocodile') is another great figure from Reiver Castings and shall lead the lines as a hero in my Highlander Donnybrook games.

Lastly, yet more figures from Reiver Castings, some leftover figures from the Gentleman Horse regt from a few posts ago. These three shall be used as heroes & villains for any of the armies I've painted up so far.

English, French, Irish Jacobite, Scottish Jacobite, Sedgemoor Rebel or Commander or town elder in the wilderness of the America's.

Five excellent horse will indeed earn you a tidy 50 points to add to the 70 you got earlier today. I like your Bonnie Prince Charlie, it is a very nice looking figure. You allude to one of the benefits of buying figures on the first release, namely reduced flash and mould lines. Inevitably later casts will fit together less well resulting in minor defects which can usually be cleaned off with a bit of effort and a keen eye. Lovely job on these mate.
