Dem Bones, Dem Bones, Dem Dry Bones

This week's flurry of painting saw the "completion" of my 10mm Warband project and a few extra figures.  I put completion in quotes because you all know we tend to add more units here and there, and I'm sure that will be the case for both my Dwarf and Undead Armies.  Anyway, enough blabbing and on to the pictures.

I painted up 3 units of skeleton warriors.  I really wanted these 3 units to look like a horde so I opted to put 26 figures on each stand.  One of which is the Necromancer in charge.  You don't think these skeletons would just form up in rank and file on their own do ya?   I had determined with my first units that this army's colors would be purple and yellow and the coat of arms would be a 1/4 yellow moon and a star.  So all the shields with enough space has either stars or the moon and star combination.

And the group shot...

So what are those big bones back there you ask?  Catapults!

I still had some time left for painting, but nothing in my ready to paint queue seemed to fit this theme.  So I pulled some Reaper Bones skeletons out of my lead pile that I plan to use for Dragon Rampant or Open Combat.  This was my first time painting any of the Reaper plastics, as I generally buy the metals.  There were 6 total, but I honestly just didn't like the soft bendy plastic so I stopped at three.  I'll get some more skeletons, but I'll shoot for metal for now on.

No matter what they try to tell you.  Size matters...

I believe your catapults were some friends of mine...

So that comes out to...
3 skeletons @ 28mm
88 skeletons @ 10mm
2 catapults @ 10mm

Cheers!

From RodF: Cause this is Thriller (45 points)

And whosoever shall be found

Without the soul for getting down...

Thriller, thriller night!

So, at least one of you reading this post will probably have Michael Jackson's Thriller stuck in your head for part of the day.  You're welcome.  My work here is done.  Muahahahahaha...

So many moons ago couple of my buddies wanted to get into zombie gaming.  Naturally, I was the one stuck buying and painting all the miniatures.  I'm not sure how this works, but it always seems to happen to me.  In the rush I just based them all, threw on some gravel and primed them gray.  We played lots of games, but I never got around to painting the zombies.  It's always bugged me, but we quit playing so I just boxed them up and forgot about them.  Recently though, a new set of buddies have mentioned they wanted to do some zombie game.  I knew the AHPC would be the place to knock these out.

These are all from ZombieSmith I believe.  There's one really skinny one [2nd picture, far right] that came from some company I forgot.  I'm not even sure they exist anymore for that matter.  Did I mention these have been sitting in a box for a long time?  Eh...

So that's 9 28mm zombies.

Enjoy!

P.S.  I still looking for a partner/partners for the CurtGeld.  If you need one as well please let me know.  I'm located in the Dallas, Texas (US).

MilesR: As the the first track on the Thriller album goes "So you wanna be starting something, you got to be starting something?..." These are inspired Zombie figs from the worlds number one selling album.  Of course IMDB list the cast size at 30, so you have a few more to go...  Perhaps you can throw in a fig for Vincent Price.  One interesting fact about the video is that Jackson stiffed Vincent Price on the royalties from the video and they never spoke to one another again.

These figures will net you a cool 45 points and lots of nostalgia karma.

Monday: Hoppers from the 1st Royal Regiment of Hoppers 56 points

So once again I'm at it with more frogs.  This time I chose the colors of the Poison Dart Frog.  I was intending to go with some easier color choices than my first batch to speed things up a bit.  But, that ultimately failed because I ended up using 7 shades of blue to finally get the look I wanted for these Hoppers.  Anyway, I hope you enjoy the results!

Regular Hoppers with Spears.

Spears and shields.

Command.  That captain is quite the dashing fellow!

There are a total of 11 28mm figures from Eureka.

This is the last of my Eureka frogs from Pond Wars.  I have a few left to paint from Dark Sword Miniatures in a later batch and then I'll be moving on to something less amphibian.

Happy New Year!

MilesR: This second unit of Frog Warriors is even better than the first - I love the brushwork on the Turtle Shell Shields and this that deserves another point for effort - that puts you in at 56 total points

From RodF: Whompers of the 1st Royal Rgt. of Hoppers (20 Points)

Greetings all.  This will be my first ever post to the Challenge.  I've been avid watcher for years, but wasn't sure I would have enough free time to give much participation.  This year I finally decided I'd give it a shot.  My main goal in participating was not to purchase any miniatures, but to make a dent in my current lead pile... and hopefully revive some stagnant projects.  So I've been digging through my lead pile and finding all kinds of forgotten projects.  The miniatures below are from one of those projects.

The Eureka Miniature's US rep showed up at one of the conventions I went to a few years back and I saw these frog warriors from the "Pond Wars" line.  I just knew I had to have some!  And they sat and sat.  Now finally, they are on the paint bench!  These particular frogs are holding mallets, but the whole time I was painting them I kept thinking "whompers" would be my name for them.  These are painted to look like a Tree Frog color patterns.  Hope you enjoy!

Ahh, these are just fabulous, Rod! I love the vibrant colours you chose for them. I'm not a big fan of painted eyes on small-scale figures, but the bulbous peepers on these little fellas really demand attention any you've bring them to life. Wonderful work.
