From Ray R: Black & White Bonus Round - Rude Grey Alien (25 pts)

I had an emergency trip to Gravesend Model Centre the other day to see if they had some 1mm or 2mm flock for my Almansa project which luckily they did! I saw this chap on the shelf and thought he'd be an easy greyscale figure, as he's a Grey Alien.......

Black & White: Paint something in grey-scale, with black and white being your colours of choice. Reconjure the elegance of the silver screen!

My Rude Grey Alien is from Wargamesculpter Miniatures.

I know greyscale means grey, but I had to put a little colour on the figures as I just gave him a succession of light grey drybrushes. So I gave him green eyes and also painted his cigar!

You can just see the orange tip of the cigar in this pic.
He's not my best work and if I'm being honest, he's not the best figure in the world either, but I quite like him, he will unfortunately be put in the draw of doom, never to see the light of day again. Unless one of you fine readers wants him that is??? Drop me a line?
No I'm not after more Gift Shop bonus points either....

So my Rude Grey Alien will earn me
5 pts for the figure
and 20 bonus points

Very nice Ray, don't be so dismissive of your work, although in your defence it looks like I've cast it. Happy new year

ChrisW Part two of Under contruction a trip to High Adventure & start of new project [175 points]

So hopefully this is still the open posting time period, if not I am early for Saturday. Would have had it up sooner but for the flooding of my in-laws basement, at least it was a more interesting end to a year. Happy New Year!

So, I think I could spend the entire challenge in this one studio! My room is full of projects that never got done, many not even started many just a few items away from being done.  This week I figured I would finish off a couple of small parts of much bigger projects before I moved away from the under construction studio.

VSF robots

Up first are two VSF French robots to add to the already painted 5 robot unit. These are old Parroom Station miniatures (OOP), They are tall robots (63mm) able to look and fire over friendly troops to provide support for advancing French troops on Mars.

Referred to as Mitraillette Infanterie Mecanique Extraodinaire, they have seen very limited action so far. With no vox box installed, they are silent but deadly. Their slim profile is proof against the harsh winds of Mars are capable of swiftly striding across the battlefield.

Top Hat Toffs (for Pulp Alley)

Now the pulp league that expanded as silly thoughts entered my mind...I already had two top hat figures painted up but really needed two more. Thankfully Pulp Figures was able to supply me with what I needed (along with a whole bunch of other figures for future projects) So I present the two newly painted figures first then the original duo.

Kowalski and Rico now can join Skipper and private.

Left to right Rico, Skipper, Kowalski and private

Then this is where the project started getting weirder and more expended. First there was Marlene that cried out to be painted and with her top hat she would be a good compliment to the four boys. As luck would have it my research into the boys revealed that there actually is a Marlene that assists them.

Then I thought about the first time I saw the quartet they were in someone else's movie, but how could I paint up some reversed anthropomorphized versions of this other quartet. Well here is my attempt.

So we have Alex (the entertainer), Marty (in black and white), Gloria (in Grey) and Melman (the tall one in yellow/orange/brown)

A 'no prize' for guessing the movie & who the Toffs are.

The full group

Limo ride

Then it is off to a new studio, via limo, the High Adventure studio! For the limo ride I submit this Foundry figure. She is from their Argonaut range and represents the start of that new project.

Ten skeletons, late addition part of the same Argonauts project

Back of Beyond for High Adventure studio

So last year I started off with a large tank presented by Lepa and Tanya. Well this year Lepa's distant cousin Jada is here to present the latest in high quality tanks, the Mark IX Beast! This is from Empress miniatures and for me it was a beast. I had wanted to do this for last years event but a disaster occurred while painting it and I just had to put it aside, out of sight. So this year I re-primed it and started from scratch. This time I managed to get the colour coming out the way I wanted, and was able to weather it reasonably well.

That's it for now, much more on the table that might make it onto the blog next week.

 Points this time around

  • 20 points limo ride
  • 20 points High Adventure
  • 95 points 19 x 28mm foot
  • 20 points 28mm Tank
  • 20 points 2 tall (65mm) robots (treating as 54mm figures)

Total 175 points

 Squirrels

  1. Back of Beyond
  2. Mad figures (Top hat toffs and companions)
  3. Greek skeletons

Late entry into skull challenge (I did not plan to paint anything with skulls, I was wrong...)

  • 10 skulls

Oh yeah, about the map, normally I do not like the idea of colourizing black and white pictures this particular colouring occurred while I was recovering from a cold and chomping at the bit to get painting figures, I just had to do something. So it was a therapeutic process for me.

Sorry to hear about the flooding, hope all is well now and slowly drying out. What a fantastic set of figures to start the year with, I love them all. The toffs, the robots, the tank, the whole kit and kaboodle. And I really love the map, will get Curt to install it on the blog

From Steve K: Savage Orcs and Spider Riders! (40 points)

 Now then,

Painting has slowed down this week due to the inevitable holiday family stuff... But, i have managed to get some Orcs and Gobbos painted up for my SAGA age of magic warband.

First up, the Savage Orc Beserkers! These are all GW miniatures that have been rattling about in a box for a couple of years so its nice to get them done.

I decided to mark out my beserkers with some blue warpaint, It makes them stand out against the chaff Orc Boyz, and was something I wanted to have a go at.

Enjoyable to paint, and a nice break from painting more realistic looking models.

The 2 spider riders are actually characters for my Goblin force, a champion and a Shaman.

Very fiddly models to paint but very cool too. So odd looking but I think they look suitably sinister and evil.

Finally all the bad lads together. A fun couple of evenings painting.

Scores!

4 x 28mm Orcs @5pts = 20pts

2 x 28mm mounted @10pts = 20pts

Total - 40pts

Happy new year everyone!

Steve

Happy new year Stig. lovely job on these. With yours and IanW's orcs you should have enough to fight my lizardmen this year.

From Barks: WesternWorld (Westerns)(30 points)

I have been sitting on these two for a while for a potential limousine/ star yacht/ hot air balloon ride, but couldn't pass up the opportunity to visit the WesternWorld set. These figures are from Great Escape Games. I don't think the sculpts quite catch the attitudes of their inspirations, but have made me consider getting back into Old West gaming. Both figures were undercoated black, drybrushed white, and then a variety of techniques to add colour.

'Maeve Newton' and 'Dolores Wood'

I used GW Sigvald Burgundy Contrast for Maeve's dress and lipstick, it was a perfect colour match. I like the red in her hair accessory.

'Maeve Newton'

A little something hidden away.

I like the colour palette Dolores has.

'Dolores Wood'

2x 28mm figures (10 points)

Western set (20 points)

Inspiration: Westworld (1973)

Thought I'd step in so that you don't have to wait a week for these to be posted. These are really great paint jobs on some nice figures. I can see why you want to get back into western gaming, it is great fun, we play using DaveD's rules which are great fun and very cinematic.
