From JohnE - 28mm Sucker Punch Mech and Pilot - [Cybertron] - (45 Points)

I have been holding on to this Maschinen Krieger Melusine (giant robot) for about a decade because I was determined that I would use it as a proxy for the mech in Sucker Punch. Nowadays there are files available to print the actual mech from the film but being stubborn I stuck with the original plan. The figure is Ishio from the Reaper Chronoscope range. She makes a good stand-in for the character Amber which I assume is what Reaper had in mind.

Points Summary:

1 x 28mm foot @ 5 points = 5 points

1 x 28mm vehicle @ 20 points = 20 points

Cybertron (Middle Ring) bonus = 20 points

Total = 45 points

I love that Mech, and the pilot looks great too!

From MikeF - Imperial Inquisitor [Arrakis] & Crawling Insectoid Alien [LV426] (50 points)

As the end of the challenge looms, I've been trying to complete several projects at once which will probably take me down to the wire! I didn't want to go empty handed this Friday so managed to bang out a couple figures...and two planets as well.

First up is an Imperial Inquisitor from the Ordo Malleus (Daemon hunters). This model is based on a GW model, but modified. The original model was bareheaded and was holding a large eagle on his left arm. I replaced the eagle and arm with a bionic arm holding a bolt pistol. I also gave him a helmet and a larger hammer! I painted him for Arrakis which has the keyword, Machiavellian. I take this to mean "ends justify the means" which describes an inquisitor from the Ordo Malleus quite well. No atrocity is off limits if it serves their purpose. This includes the extermination of entire planets if they deem it necessary. This inquisitor must believe in a long use of force continuum, as he clearly plans to start with his gun and hammer, working his way up from there.

Second is a model from Knightmare Models called the Crawling Insectoid. It's directly inspired by Citadel Miniatures Ambull alien. It's a nice chunky pewter model reminiscent of the classic miniatures GW produced in the 90's and 2000's. It's an alien painted for LV426.

2 models for a whopping 50 points!

Thanks for visiting.

Nice conversion work on the Inquisitor and that alien looks particularly disgusting!

From JohnE - 28mm Sgt. Donny Donowitz and Lt. Aldo Raine - [Vlogsphere] - (30 Points)

Another stop in the Middle Ring with a black comedy themed pair - A Couple of Bastards from the Wargames Illustrated Giants in Miniature range. Not named as such, but it's clear who they are supposed to represent.

Points Summary:

2 x 28mm foot @ 5 points = 10 points

Vlogsphere (Middle Ring) bonus = 20 points

Total = 30 points

Nice renditions of these two inglorious basterds, John!

From DougM - A Badly Judged Operation - LV426 (92 points)

Nothing says badly judged like December 7th 1941...  'Awaken a Sleeping Giant'.

So yet more home printed aircraft, this time for 'Bag the Hun', WW2 from the Too Fat Lardies. The WW1 stuff I printed off in 1/144, but the larger aircraft  WW2... (watch this space!) I went for 1/200.

I also - for some ridiculous reason, thought it would be easy to paint Japanese insignia.. idiot that I am..

And as always it seems, waiting for my naval hex mat to arrive...

Zeros!  - some sort of colour shift here, they are more Greenish in real life.

Escorting some Aichi Val

And the Kates..

Some Nates to keep them company...

Slow Progress...  I was hoping to have more done this week, but real life you know.

Points = 10mm vehicles (I think?) @3 x 24 = 72

Planet bonus = 20

Total 92 points...

Those tiny planes look great, Doug!

From BenitoM: WW2 Canadian Rifle Team (30 points)

Trying now to sprint and to achieve a decent scoring relative to my Challenge target, I spent the weekend painting the last of the three rifle teams of my WW2 Canadian infantry unit  for Chain of Command.

The core of the force is now finished and the only reamining models are the different NCOs (junior leaders) commanding each squad and the Platoon officers (or Senior leaders).

I have some additional supports planned but are not too critical to deploy a game. This will happen as soon as the COVID rates fall to some safer levels (Madrid's current incidence ration is 390 but worth mentioning is plummeting from a 3,400 peak in mid-January) and I can restart attending our club on weekends (I stopped visiting the club in mid-November).

As most of the other minis in my force, these are part of the Warlord's multipose British and Canadian Infantry box. Excellent sculpting (nothing to do with the earlier plastic releases) and enough variation of equipment and parts to let you build literally hundreds of individualised models.

With this entry I will add 30 points to this year's Challenge personal score:

6 x 28mm models @5 points each = 30 points

Planning now next moves which will involved shifting to a complete different period and do some additional exploring in the Challenge Quadrant, unearthing

Those riflemen look fantastic, Benito. You seem to have left your last sentence unfinished, though - unearthing what?

Regardless, I'm sure we're all looking forward to your next project(s).

From LeeH - French Foreign Legion 75 mm field gun & crew (12 Points)

I couldn’t resist giving my French Foreign Legionnaires some artillery support so here is an 1897 Pattern 75mm Field Gun. This Quick-firing gun was designed to deliver time-fused shrapnel shells to enemy formations. This gun continued in service for many years, was used extensively in WWI (over 4000 were in service at this time) and was even used as the main armament of the French Saint-Chamond Tank in 1918.

The recoil mechanism used a hydro-pneumatic system which meant the gun did not move when fired. This meant the crew didn’t have to re-aim between shots, greatly speeding up its rate of fire. Up until 1915 there were two types of ammunition, A time-delayed HE Round and the aforementioned time-fused shrapnel shell.

In 1903 a battery of 75’s was used against the Oasis city at Zenaga and within a few short hours had destroyed more than 150 buildings. The seven Ksars of the city meekly presented themselves to General Fernand O’Connor to ‘negotiate’ but they had little option but to comply with the French in the face of such firepower.

Other than some casualty figures I think this is the last of my Foreign Legion miniatures for the time being. I’m working on some Berber Camels and then I’m more or less done with this project….I say that advisedly of course because no project is ever ‘done’ but I will have completed everything on my original plan and some extras that wormed their way into the plan as it went on. I'm looking forward to getting everything out for the wrap-up shot because I think I've got a respectable amount done this year.

Points Scoring:
1x15mm Artillery Piece & 4 Crew = 12 Points

That's a great artillery group, Lee!

From MartijnN: Ruins, Wargs and Goblins (220 points)

Last week I had to undergo some very minor surgery; nothing much, but enough to prevent me from providing an entry on Friday. However, I hope to make up for it by this Friday's post! Alas, I have not found a clever way to tie this to my next destination, Cybertron, so no planet bonuses today!

First, we have a ruined keep. It is a 3d printed model. It's FDM printed, and it suffered somewhat from stringing. However, I tried to take some advantage of that by making it appear as vegetation or damage to the building. Gave it a heavy wash, drybrushed with green and ivory, some green to simulate moisture near the apertures, some tufts and there you go. I'm actually quite happy with it.

It's a 28mm model, printed at 75%

Old Minifigs 15mm figures for scale only

Next, I have been working on my Battle of Five Armies set. There are three units of goblins, two of Wrgs and two of Warg Riders. Once again, I tried to paint the units rather than the individual figures, so they are not going to win any awards but the overall effect is nice. Incidentally, as I am a firm Tolkienist I will not have green goblins or orcs in my armies. Apart from Space Orks, that is.

Here are all my models from the BOFA set so far; the Men of Dale certainly look to be in a rather tight spot!

"Would that night came, or the Prussians!"

Still five units of Goblins to go. And one of Wargs. And two of Warg Riders. And the Elves, the Dwarves and the characters. And the Eagles. And the terrain. And then the second set, of course.

Anyway.

Pointswise:

The ruin is more or less a 6"cube, so I'd like 20 points;

The goblin infantry are 126 x 10mm foot = 126

The Warg Riders are 24 x 10mm horse = 48

The Wargs are 24 x 10mm foot = 24

For a total of 220, which smashes my target!

These are two of the armies of the Battle of Five Armies so I'd like to claim two squirrels (one for the goblins and one for the Wargs, along with the 12 points of Wargs in my previous BOFA post), but as always to the discretion of the Squirrel Master.

That keep looks superb - I particularly like that you've gone with brown hues for the stonework. And very nice little Tolkien minis too.

Yours maths was slightly out - the total comes to 218 points, but I'm adding a couple of bonus points to round it off!

Tamsin's Freaky Friday

"Good morning, Ladies, Gentlemen...and Ray! Well, I must tell you that the Stewards Department of Snowlord's Peak Resort Station is in a complete mess right now. Nurse Docherty, who is meant to be on duty today, has been told by the Doctor that his appendicitis is cute...err, hang on...oh, well, that makes more sense, I couldn't for the life of me see how appendicitis could be cute...that he has acute appendicitis and has been rushed into hospital for emergency surgery. I'm sure we wish him all the very best for a quick recovery."

"However, it does mean that the rest of us stewards will have to cover his shift today. So far, we have exploration reports lined up from:

  • MikeF
  • JohnE
  • DougM
  • BenitoM
  • LeeH
  • MartijnN

I'm sure that there will be other reports coming in as the day goes on."

Toodle-pip!
