From BrianC: Undead, Zombicide Black Plague, Next Level Miniatures, Beyond The Gates of Antares and more (135pts)

Ok. Here we go again. Not too much. Work and life stuff going on. BUT, I'm hoping for a big point dump soon. Let's get to it!

We begin with some nasty ghouls/zombies from Mantic Kings of War Undead Army:

There will be more of these uglies in the future...

We have some Sci-Fi 3D printed Alien "city folk"

I'm not too sure if this mini is from Mortal Gods game or an Old Glory Miniature. Looks like a Roman Slave boss or gladiator trainer?

Some Zombicide Black Plague miniatures. First we have Falstaff, inspired by Bram Stoker's Dracula movie...

Next is, Lady Faye, inspired by Kristen Stewart(Bella of Twilight movie)?

Hey! It's Redcap Rodney from Zombicide Black Plague, too!

I have a couple North Star Miniatures from Frostgrave Wizards II

A couple "kitbash" North Star Miniatures from Oathmark Human Light Infantry set. I used some of the wizard arms to convert them into wizards for my Four Against Darkness Solo RPG.

I have some Next Level Miniatures, cleric, warrior and a thug.

Lastly, some drones from Beyond The Gates of Antares. Concord drones

Ok. That's it for this turn-in. To the points!

28mm x 27 = 135pts.

A great variety pack here Brian.  Lots to love, but I like those kit bashed wizards the best.  Those conversions worked very nicely.  I want to make sure I've counted everything correctly, so here's my head count.

  • 8 ghouls
  • 3 Aliens
  • 1 Roman slave boss
  • 3 Zombicide figures
  • 2 Frostgrav wizards
  • 2 Kit-bashed wizards
  • 3 Next level figures
  • 5 drones which I will counts as 28mm figures because I don't know else else to count hem as.
  • Total 27 minis

From MartinC - Cybertron Big Robot (Tuesday Ready 30pts)

So the Facebook group answered my question and I'm sliding down the Great Abyssal thingy to Cybertron. Wheee!

This is your basic walker robot, available at any Space port space marine outlet shop.

Painted it menacing black with a dry brush of black grey and picked out some "eyes" and rivets (don't tell James I've painted rivets). It from the Gates of Antares collection by Warlord (I think)

So it's a relatively big unit at 54mm so 10 pts and 20 for Cybertron

That robot is definitely black. And big.

from PeteF: Transmat and Ghar - a bit home made Awdry's Atoll (90 points)

Having arrived at the trailhead for The Path of New Shiny I was faced with a bit of a stumper. Unused to building terrain I really wasn't sure what might work. I thought about the armies that I'm aiming to complete during Challenge X and the scenarios they might be involved in. One of the more enjoyable scenarios in Beyond The Gates of Antares has one faction defending a transmat. Reinforcements arrive as the scenario progresses and the attackers close in.

Warlord Games sells a nice looking official transmat - and it's about the size of a CD. I also wanted to see if I could do something with LEDs and used one that slowly cycles through different colours to give the piece a beam-me-up-Scotty vibe. The central column is a quip electric toothbrush container.

The Ghar are one of the factions in Beyond The Gates of Antares. Most of them fight in hard to damage battle suits and I had four of these left from my accidental purchase of the Ghar Starter Army a couple of years ago. The theme of the army is my local NBA team, the Portland Trailblazers. Each battle suit represents one of the players - past and future. The one with the big launch tube (the Bomber) is named for Clyde Drexler, their best ever player. Many Portlanders are rabid Blazers fans and local gamers seem to like the army's theme.

I painted one face of the top CD in a colour shift blue metallic from Turbo Dork. Although this should have been a simple task.... what can I say? Take one involved trying to get two colours going in concentric rings. I was handbrushing at this point. It looked, er, terrible. For take 2 I just brushed the stuff on - but the brush strokes rose like giant ridges on the CDs surface. Than I remembered I had an airbrush packed away somewhere - a cheap one. So I tried that. It is called an airbrush because what comes out of the end of it is mainly air. I did my best to encourage more paint to join the air... but it barely co-operated. Not being very handy, I couldn't figure out how to up the air pressure. Eventually, enough paint emerged to call it done. I should really learn how to use that thing. It could be useful.

The end result has a bit of the something-that-they-made feel. It does look quite nice in the dark (no, not just because you can't see it - because of the light which changes colour). I tried to add a short video to the post but, like the airbrush, I couldn't get it to work properly - maybe too big.

The transmat would fit in a 5x5x6" cube so how does 15 points sound? Four Ghar battle suits at 10 points each (what they've scored in the past) plus 30 for a new area would make it 85. Does that sound reasonable?

This is the best cd based bit of terrain so far, i really love it. That coupled with supporting a 2nd rate team, mine are 4th rate, makes it extra special. I'll give it the full cube - close enough to a full size one, especially if you count the one at the other end with the queue of reinforcements

From Pete F: 15mm (ish) Sci Fi Vehicle for Fran's Fjord (38 points)

The good thing about flying SciFi vehicles is that you can make them work at any scale. At 54mm this could be a bomb disposal drone; at 28mm an Andhak scout; at 15mm a small artillery platform; and at 6mm a mega cannon.

For this submission the floaty thing with a gun is a 15mm artillery platform. It was the only item on my shelf of shame that came close to the requirements of Fran's Fjord. I welcomed the opportunity to paint it.

This is a Path of Imagination colour scheme - it might look a little LA Lakery although that was not the original intent. I wanted to try out colours that might work in my next sci-fi or fantasy army so this floating gun is my test piece.

I'm hoping to have time to visit every location on Challenge Island before time is up - hard to believe that's less than a month away. Schoolwork (I'm retraining for a fifth career) is eating into what might otherwise be painting time but a sprint to the finish is planned. We have some early spring weather here - almost warm enough for priming some more plastic in the garage.

Scoring as a 15mm vehicle for 8 points plus 30 for the new location.

That's a very colourful floaty thing Pete. Well worth the 38 points for submitting it as an entry for Fran's Fjord.

Roundwood's Tower From PeteF: Ghar Tectorists in Trailblazers' Red White & Black (50 Points)

This is the twelfth location I have visited on Challenge Island and it seemed like a good reason to take on one of the projects that needs to be finished: a Ghar Army for Beyond The Gates of Antares.

The original army was the result of an unfortunate butt dial that caused an EBay purchase of the Ghar Starter Army for Beyond the Gates of Antares. Later I found yet more Ghar (and the rules) at a very tempting price so I added to the sci-fi section of the shelf of shame with no real plan as to how and when they'd be assembled and painted.

Thanks to Challenge VIII I got started on the Ghar and in Challenge IX I picked the Trailblazers color scheme as my submission for the Sport theme.  I've done a few more of the Battle suits in the interim but had yet to complete any of the infantry Ghar Outcast support models. The color scheme is my alternative view on the Antares universe - my mother in law is a Portland Trailblazers season ticket holder and I get to a few games each season.

The Tectorists are scouts whose proximity makes attacks on enemy units more effective. In the Antares Universe the outcasts are poorly armoured and weak types used mainly as laser cannon fodder.

These proved quite tricky to paint - black primer was probably not a good idea with so much white in the color scheme. Notes to self: grey primer, thinner paints. I also made the mistake of removing them from their integral bases after painting them... and it took a while to figure out the best way to do it. We live and learn. The final result will do for wargaming and I'm looking forward to seeing the whole Red, White & Black army out on the table.

4x28mm infantry and a new area explored for a total of 50 points.

Nice work here Pete! I particularly enjoy the idea of the accidental-butt-dial purchase leading to this collection, and the tie-in colour-wise to various sports franchises.  On top of it all, the miniatures and paint work looks great too! Well done.

I look forward to using this excuse to start a new collection...

That will be 50 points for you sir!
