From JonathanO: Shieldmaiden Fanatic - Sarah the Sorceress (25 points)

I need to request a teleportation to the Adventurer's Landing for my next location.  This gives me the opportunity to present the third Shieldmaiden Fanatic from the four figure set by Bad Squiddo games.

So that will be 25 more points to my total, please.

Yes, there is one more Shieldmaiden Fanatic to come.

From DrQ: An Arkanaut Ironclad in the Lair of the Great Beast (70 points)

For the Lair of the Great Beast we were instructed to paint something "monstrous and nightmarish, terrifying and humongous." I chose to interpret this as my personal dragon to slay in this competing—Arkanaut Ironclad for the Kharadron Overlords.

By any definition this thing was a beast: 152 components, on a 170 x 109 mm oval base, and sitting over 20cm high on my custom flight stand. It is also crewed by 6 figures as well.

I've been working on this thing literally since the challenge started, and I'm glad to have finally completed it.

As far as points, the vehicle is 20 points, the six figures are another 30 points, and the challenge bonus is another 20. For a grand total of 70, I believe.

From here there's nowhere to go but the Altar of the Snowlord!!!!

From JonathanO: Egyptian sarcophagus and mummy - The Tomb (25 points)

More items from Mantic Games Terrain Crate for this submission.  The Egyptian sarcophagus and a mummy seem appropriate for The Tomb location.

Suggested points:  5 points for the pair plus the location bonus of 20 = 25 points.

Administration: The Last Week of Challenge XI

Any who've seen Paul OG will see the resemblance...

Hello Fellow Paint Jockeys (or is that Pain Jockeys?)!

Here we are, a week away from the end of our Winter's journey, all of us frantically working on those final projects to submit before the curtain falls.

Well, I have good news! As you can see from the timer to the right, I've added an extra day in order to allow us to get those last, half-finished entries across the finish line. Yes, the punishment lingers for just a little longer - delicious, isn't it?

I see we're just a few hundred points shy of our group point goal. Wow, that's incredible! A new Challenge record, I think. Now, let's see how far we can exceed it, and if we can get 70 of us to their targets.

A note regarding the SnowLord Altar prizes. After the Challenge, I will be sending out an email to each 'Altaree', and generous prize-giver, to arrange coms for delivery. Also, for all those who achieved your points target, please send me a note after the Challenge and I will arrange a prize to be sent to you.

Now, back to your hobby desks Challengers! I'll see you at the finish line in a few days.

- Curt Actual, Out.

From Guy B: [Chamber of Darkness] Fifty shades of Scots grey? [230 points]

I have an odd disability for an editor - I'm mildly dyslexic. It means I have to be careful and generally read through things twice. So when I read the Chamber of Darkness initially, I thought "Great! I can get some Covenanter Scots painted!"...

The miniatures are a mixture of Warlord plastics and Perry Miniatures. I have some Foundry as well to mix in which will break up any uniformity with the Warlord poses.

The command wasn't ready in time, so I'll probably post these later.

The pikes are a mixture of metal and plastic, the Warlord ones tend to break but as pikes are in short supply, I'm still using them.

So I did paint... a lot of them. 41 completed, with some shotte and command half finished. That was until a friend of mine suggested I read the challenge again and see what it actually said! So it meant using a grey scale only... Oh dear!!!!

So I decided to paint some rocks as well, so I met the criteria... these are 3D printed with Mr Smoother applied, to remove most of the graininess. The rocks are all greyscale, and even involved various Vallejo greys! Challenge completed, sort of!

I attempted to speckle one of the rocks to make it look realistic. This was quite laborious but the finished rock looks good (better on the table than in photography). If I paint any more, I'll add the odd bit of lichen in greens and browns.

So I estimate 205 points for the 41 Scots and 5 points for the rocks, plus a 20 point challenge bonus equals 230 points!

KenR - 28mm Allied Legion General - 30 points

The Big Boss is in da House ! The Allied Italian Legion is finally staggering to an end, all the figures are painted and first to be based is the overall Legion Commander.

Three figures from the 28mm Victrix Roman Commanders set with heads from the Allied Italian Legion Box form the base which is 100mm in diameter.

So 3 x 10 points gives me 30 more and really annoyingly I've realised that with all the figures for the Project done I will fall short of my target 🙃  I'm busy searching the house for some unpainted figures 😄

So with a week to go I have got the Triarii painted and being based, because you all love them so much here's the progress photo, 4 bases to go.

From PhilH: All Out of Chambers, Keeping the Peace with the Guardia Civil (55 Points)

Finally, an entry originally meant for the Guardroom, but I used a different option instead. Adding to my Spanish Civil War forces, a squad of Guardia Civil, one of three paramilitary forces of the Spanish Republic. Established in the mid 19th Century in the style of the French Gendarmerie, they are the oldest law enforcement organisation in Spain.
Guardia Civil are useful for gaming the SCW, as their loyalties split pretty much 50/50 between the Republic and Rebels: they can be a handy support option for either side. They made important contributions, but weren't always trusted by the Republic's other soldiers, in part because of their previous role in putting down civil unrest by the workers (many now serving in the milita or Republican Army). As the SCW is a conflist with fine headwear, they maintain this tradition with their natty black patent leather tricorns.
As many members threw in their lot with the Nationalist cause they survived into the Francoist era to the modern day, and absorbed the members and duties of the Carabineros (Frontier Guards). Three officers
Eight Rankers
They're from Empress Miniatures. Eleven 28mm models, for 55 Points thanks!

From PhilH: Clash of Beliefs at The Shrine (30 Points)

Thanks to Sarah's teleport, I can tick off the Shrine, with a couple of odd models for my French-Indian War project. First a Jesuit missionary for my French forces. Jesuits settled in "New France" in the colonies and among the Huron in the 1650s, to convert them to Catholicism. So he's a suitable 'holy man' support choice for Sharp Practice. With no experience in the wilderness of the Americas and only their faith to guide them, Jesuits ventured deep into the wilderness, largely unexplored by other Europeans at the time.
Accompanying him at the Shrine is a representatitve of traditional tribal beliefs and 'holy man' for my Iroquois, in this case a member of the enigmatic the False Face Society. These members of a medicinal society of the Iroquois wore carved and painted wooden masks and carried turtleshell rattles, used in healing rituals. A member chose the wood and carved the mask themselves, representing the power of Hadúi (literally: 'our grandfather, he who drives it away', reference to the legendary founder of the society).
Both are from Sash and Saber. Together, they depict two (of many) contrasting traditions of faith in the Americas during the early European colonisation.
Two 28mm models and the Chamber for 30 Points, and one last post from me to come!

From ChrisF- Sarah the Sorceress 15mm witch (27 pts)

"It's almost Spring! Time to sweep off the front stoop."

"Quite a few visitors this winter"

"So many bones!"

"This looks like a lot of work"

"Maybe next weekend"

This is the last of my 15mm witches from Blue Moon. Using it to make my way to the Lair of the Beast for a final mini.

The tomb - stone circle and Chaos Sorcerer! Mark Backhouse (27 points)

For the tomb I thought a henge or stone circle would tick the box nicely. This is another wee tiny 2mm treat on a 60mm x 60mm base. A stone circle with a few enthusiastic druids.

I’ve also painted an inhabitant - albeit in a completely different scale! An undead Chaos Sorcerer!

This ugly wizard is from Heroquest! He’s been given a reboot paint job and a Nurgling for good measure just in case you didn’t realise his allegiance to Nurgle! His horrible pox was cured by Nurgle (see the scars on his legs) and therefore he seeks to serve the dark gods! He will be a nice addition to my Nurgle Realms of Chaos warband.

A few skulls there to keep the Oldhammer skull collectors happy too.

I’m claiming 5 points for the 28mm figure and 2 for the standing stones. 20 for the tomb challenge making a glorious total of 27 points.
Cheers
Mark Backhouse

From: AngusW - 28mm 8th The 8th Army (well not all of it) - 30pts

When I was planning for the challenge, the first thing I added to my shopping list was the 8th Army AT gun and HMG from Warlord. These should (in theory) finish off my 8th Army force for Chain of Command.

They've been some of the last to be painted due to getting lost in the post. Though I ordered them at the start of December they never arrived until the end of January.

The AT gun was a nightmare, I couldn't quite figure out how it was all to go together. Lashings of epoxy glue were involved. Also, the base of the AT gun supplied by Warlord was to small, so that needed to be swapped out for a bigger MDF base I had spare.

In the end, I'm happy with the results. If there is one thing the AHPC has proved to me, I'm consistently dreadful at taking pictures of my figures. They do look better in the 'flesh'.

HMG Gun x2 figures (10pts) + AT Gun x4 figures (20pts)

From Barks: Descent villains (25 points)

Here's my last batch of Descent miniatures. These are the villains our heroes must defeat.

5x 28mm: 25 points

Skullz: +1
