From GeoffT: Ambition, Orc Warlord on Wyvern (45 points)

Hello Challengers,

For the theme of Ambition, I give you an Warhammer Fantasy Orc Warlord on Wyvern.  Orc warlords are bent on conquest, with a driving ambition to become someone in their short brutal lifetimes.

A few months ago I was given a painted 4th edition Warhammer Fantasy Battle army.  Lots of goblins and squigs, but leaderless.  This I purchased from GW, as it is now available again due to the release of the old world.

Points,

One 28mm vehicle (Wyvern) 20 points

One 28mm rider 5 points

Ambition theme 20 points.

Kind Regards

Geoff.

From Millsy:

This model is an old favourite of mine and I have one in my collection with a very similar paint scheme although I have pale skin on the wings. The green just seems to suit a wyvern so well right?

Super brushwork picking out all scales, wrinkles and folds in the skin. You've really nailed the big lizard vibe on this beastie. He'll strike terror into whatever he faces across the table I am sure.

45 more points for your tally mate. I have no idea what you'll do next which is great!

Cheers,
Millsy

From StephenS: The Blob (Gluttony) (27 points)

G'day Everyone,

A short post this week as work begins its insidious intrusion into my spare time again.

I have painted the beefiest figure in my collection as my offering to the third circle in the Abyss.

A 40mm plastic figure from Atomic Mass Games for its Marvel: Crisis Protocol game. I am not very familiar with background of The Blob, so can't offer much there, except that he is not a friendly, helpful sort of character.

I always struggle with painting large areas of flesh, and was not really happy with the outcome this time either. However, when I took my glasses off and squinted at it from very far away, it looked much better. I was tempted to take the photos the same way, but one must always be wary of displeasing the minions.

7 points for the miniature and 20 for the location is 27 points in total.

Cheers,

Steve

From Millsy:

Work is the curse of the painting man or something like that, right Steve?

What a beast this chap is. I agree 100% about how hard it can be to paint large areas of flesh or even large areas of clothing. Basically anything with little to disrupt the surface and add variety.

I think you've nailed it despite your own misgivings mate. The musculature is nicely defined and the blue suit has just the right amount of shading too.

Well done and another 27 points for your growing tally.

Cheers,
Millsy

From GeoffT: The Lovers, Mollusc Serenading with Ukulele (30 points)

Hello Challengers,

The Lovers theme was a tricky theme to represent from a pile of wargames figures that mainly wield axes and guns.

Nevertheless, I found this weird resin casting of a mollusc man playing a Ukulele.  There is a bird thing with a helmet that appeared to be alert; perhaps it was listening attentively to the serenading polyp. Placed together, they really do seem to be in love.  If they have offspring, it would be hard to imagine.

Can’t remember where these came from, they were part of a set, I think I may have painted the rest in a prior challenge.

Points,

2 x 28mm infantry = 10 points

The lovers theme = 20 points.

Kind Regards

Geoff.

From Millsy:

What an odd pair they are Geoff, particularly the weird bird creature! Still, who are we to judge and if they have found love together then good for them. Perhaps it takes someone different to recognise the value of that in someone else.

I really like you colour choices for the bird creature particularly that striking red/brown which contrasts really well with the muted grey and steel.

Cracking stuff, one of the most unusual posts I have curated this year!

Cheers
Millsy

From JohnS: A Speck of Slaughterloo Uhlans (110 points)

Next up in my All Slaughterloo Challenge Cavalcade are these Krautian Uhlan Lancers accompanied by a Krautian Staff Officer.

Uhlan Lancers and Officer

Mounted on savage boars, the Krautian Uhlans are the pride of the Dwarf Cavalry and their Death's Head badge strike fear into the enemies of Blooka's Children (as the inhabitants of the Krautian nation are proud to call themselves.)

An officer knows that hydration is key

The Krautian Staff Officer is mounted on a fine fat farm bred pig as this reflects his more genteel upbringing. In keeping with Dwarven tradition the Officer always has a frosty stein of bier handy to ward off the rigours of dehydration. Officering is thirsty work.

Standard Bearer, Line Officer and Staff Officer.

The Officers inspect the troops.

Armed with lances and dwarf muskets the pitiless Light Cavalry rove the battlefields of Valon at will, displaying their superior boarsmanship and charging home when least expected.

The lances aren't just for warfare. They make a handy tool for spit-roasting any mounts that don't make the grade. After salting and smoking, of course. Delicious when washed down with a stein or two of Krautian Schwarzenbier.

This was another fun paint and a good diversion from preparation for Cancon (Australia's largest games convention) which is next weekend. I was helped along by a couple of great paint and chat sessions too.

11 x 28mm Mounted Figures  @ 10 = 110 points

From Millsy:

"Boarsmanship" is my word of the week now. Everything about this submission made me laugh and think I am really missing out on something through not having played or painted any Slaughterloo over the years.

These fine fellow have real presence and look more like heavy cavalry with their chunky dwarf bodies on chunky boar mounts. I really like you choice of blue and gold which pairs nicely with their beards, something that seems very appropriate for a uhlan for whom sartorial style is a must have. They even have a slightly piratical look about them which is what being a light cavalry man dwarf is all about!

Cracking work mate and a very well earned 110 points.

Cheers,
Millsy
