From Rhunt Test print rook (5 pts)

This is my last entry. Dad is travelling and next week I get to go to the UK and visit Warhammer World. I have other things on the table but won't finish them before he leaves today (Friday).

This week all I have is this test model that my dad printed on this new printer. He had to make it work so he can print me Osgiliath Veterans. He let me have this to paint but now he's given me the vets so I'm working on them.

Thank you everyone for letting me be part of this challenge. I loved it so much. All of your models are so awesome and I really liked seeing them. Thank you also for all of the help you gave me. I learned a lot.

I can't wait for next year. This is the best thing ever.

Rhys it was an absolute honor to have you in the challenge, and to see your painting progression throughout the challenge. Wishing you all the best with your painting adventures in the future, and have a wonderful time at Warhammer World! A great mecca for any hobbyist for sure!

5 pts added to you, and a hope that the weather in Nottingham is pleasant for your travels!

Rhunt - Star Wars Legion and High Elves ( 92 pts)

This week is more Star Wars Legion and also some more Oathmark Elves.

A command pack and two 3D prints for the Hostage Exchange.

This first one is four upgrades for the rebels. The comms tech is missing her arm but I painted her anyway.

Back shot

I need the comms tech and sometimes the captain. I've never used the med-droid or the repair-droid, but I might some day.

These two are 3D prints that I'll use for the hostage exchange scenario.

Next up are ten more Oathmark Elves. I did these as sword and board.

Ten more of my Northstar Oathmark Elves. The box had 30 of them.

I still had enough of the Games Workshop elf shields to use them on this unit. I don't know why the set I got came with so many shields but I really like them.

I used my dad's red tufts again. I love how these pop on the table. I also painted the cloaks in different colors.

Close up of the shield These are fun to paint and I'm getting happier with them as I go.

That's all for this week.

10 x 28mm Elves x 5 pts = 50 pts

6 x 32mm Legion x 7 pts = 42

Total = 92 pts

Wonderful work here once again Rhys. I like that you kept the elves bases similar, and it make the unit cohesion so much better. I also realllly love how that bronze shield came out. Great highlighting, and shading there. Looks a bit weathered and aged, which is not surprising considering how long elves live!

Great job, and a massive 92 pts for you today!

From Rhunt - Elves and fantasy figures (65 pts)

This week I painted more elves. And some more fantasy Bones. These are Oathmark elves and I like them a lot better than the GW ones.

These are Oathmark from Northstar. I bought them and put them together all by myself.

My Dad had these red tufts and I loved them.

This box comes with 30 models in it. It is the Elf Light Infantry. It doesn't come with spears but Dad had extras and let me have them. I did ask him to help me clean the mold lines off, since that is really hard (and boring).

I am building these as 10 archers, 10 sword and board and 10 spear and shield. I had a couple of left over shields for the GW elves so I used two here.

These were way more fun to paint. They are simple with just enough detail to make them interesting.

The next three are Bones fantasy models that Dad gave me.

These are the first generation soft bendy plastic that hate primer.

I did these in the winter theme again.

All together this is 13 x 28mm models x 5 pts = 65 pts.

By Paul the Stand-In Minion:

What a cracking job you've done with these Rhys! I like the Oathmark plastic figures too, and your mixing and matching have been very effective. The basing looks really good too - love the red tufts.
65 well earned points :-)

From Rhunt - Crashed X-Wing for Star Wars Legion (40 pts)

This week I painted a crashed X-Wing for Star Wars Legion. I painted the pilot last week, she's blue.

These pieces are 12 inches by 12 inches and 3 inches tall.

The B1 is for scale. There are four sections. This is the biggest.

This set has four pieces and came with cards for playing a scenario. We haven't played that yet but I really liked painting this model.

The area around the ship can be difficult terrain and the ship is hard cover and blocks line of sight. Those are very important in Legion.

This piece is the tallest part, along with the other wing on the big piece.

It can't hide a whole unit but a hero can get really hidden behind this.

This piece is pretty boring but does give hard cover.

I painted these like there was fire or lava around where the crash happened. It just destroyed everything.

This piece has a dead astromech droid on it. That made me sort of sad.

All together these break up the battlefield a lot for movement and some for cover and line of sight.

For scoring if we stacked these they would be six inches by six inches by 12 inches, so two Terrain Cubes (t) for 40 points.

Great work here Rhys! And perfect terrain pieces for Legion. I can already see Obi Wan and Anakin fighting near it, with Obi Wan having the high ground shouting something about being friends or something.

The lava aspect is really well done here. If I were to give any advice to improve it, would be to perhaps give the brown rocky areas a bit of a drybrush in a slightly lighter color nearer the lava. To show the glow more, and to add a bit more to the transition there.

Overall great effort here, and a cool 40 pts for you!

From Rhunt - Rebel Troopers (168 pts)

This week's entry is Star Wars Legion Rebels from Atomic Mass Games. I recently started playing Rebels, like my dad. I was playing clones but they didn't really fit my play style. The rebels seem to be better.

24 Rebel Troopers. Ready to die gloriously and loudly for the Rebellion.

I painted these in a desert camouflage pattern. There is one Pathfinder in here as well. These are really cheap troops so they are great for filling the 3 core slots you have to take or for carrying heal-bots or special weapons. They die very fast though.

The same from the other side.

I only have two pictures because my dad has the flue and he said to tell you all that he's mailing it in this week. I think that means he's being lazy since he doesn't feel good.

This is 24 x 32mm models at seven points each = 168 pts.

Rhys.. wow! Amazing work here! Love me some Star Wars Legion models, and these are fantastic! And we can see you took the basing comment into consideration, as they look so well uniformed, and fit so nicely together here. Great job here!

Am sure you will enjoy playing rebels over Clones. A bit more straightforward force to play with, and their core are quite good overall. More so when painted up like you have done here.

And goes without saying that this powerbomb of a points drop is the best way to round out the Sunday crew here. Thanks for the post today!

168 pts for you.

From Rhunt - Elves and fantasy heroes (40 pts)

I completed some more models after my last entry was ready to go. First off is two more of these elves. I'm really close to being done with them.

Two more leaders. One for spears and one for bows.

There's not a lot to say about these that I haven't already said. I am painting them all a little bit different.

Next up is three more of the warband I just bought. These are really cool models and I'm already trying to find more. My dad says I need to find a deal because they cost a lot.

Dad says these would be great for a Mordheim warband. He showed me some tables people made and it looks like a really cool game.

The last three are three more Bones from dad. They were fun to paint. They have so many different models that you can find anything you need for a game.

I liked painting the flaming sword the most out of all of these.

So that's it for this week. Not as much done as I usually do but dad was out of town so I was helping Mom around the house more than normal.

8 x 28mm models = 50 points.

First off, apologies for you being double posting today. I mixed up the release date for your other post.

But really happy to see more models from you, and some really nice work from you across these models. Loving that you are adding some foliage to the bases on the last few there. Really takes the models to new heights!

Also great to help out the family while your dad was out of town. Great job there!

Rhunt - Space Marines and fantasy (85 pts)

I'm getting close to being done with my Space Marines (which I like painting) and my elves, which I really don't like painting. I also have some other models for this week.

More Space Marines. I really like these models. They are a lot bigger than my dad's older models. They look good and they are easy to paint, but there are a lot of things on them that have to be painted. I tried different colors on the rims of the bases, like people told me to. I like the blue base best.

There is also a tank that came with this set so I have to see if my dad will build it for me.  I'm running out of models to paint.

Bones. These are old ones so they are not very detailed.

Two Bones models. I put the one on the right on a 3D printed base that someone gave me.

Next up are three brand new models. I bought them last Saturday. They are part of a box that my dad says would be perfect for Mordheim but I don't know what that game is.

Two dogs and the female fighter.

There are three more guys in the set that I'm working on finishing for next week.

I really liked the dogs. I have eight more dogs for elves in Oathmark so now I can have ten dogs.

Next up is Iorlas. He came with Denethor and is the captain of the Citadel Guards. He has some really cool rules that let him shield but still strike, so he should be really hard to kill.

Iorlas, captain of the Citadel Guards

I think this is the last infantry model for Gondor that I didn't have. I still need to get the Trebuchet and the bolt thrower but then I think that between my dad's army and mine we have all of the options. I am going to use Roman scorpions for Gondor bolt throwers until I get the models.

The last entry is more icky elves. I'm really close to being done with these and that makes me very happy.

Five archers, one sword and two spears

These seventeen 28mm models give me 85 points for the week.

Thank you.

Great output this week mate. Loving all the different works you have done, and I agree that the blue based rims look the best. Once you paint all your marines with it, you will see a nice upgrade to the unit as a whole! Keep up the great work here, and may all your dices roll 6 when playing against your dad! 85 pts to you. From Rhunt - Space Marines, Elves and odds and sods (135 pts)

This entry is mostly Space Marines. I also have some more of the yucky to paint elves. I'm also adding my second Denethor model, a Greek hoplite and some Chaos Dwarf (Abyssal Dwarf) artillery.

First up are more of my new Space Smurf army.

My dad got me this model in Canterbury when he was in the UK in 2022. He built if for me right before the Challenge.

I can switch out the weapons but only painted this one so far.

I think I want decals but I haven't decided yet.

My next model is a High Elf archer. I still don't like these models. I can't wait to be done painting them.

Next up is a Reaper Bones model my dad gave me. He might be an elf warrior for Pathfinder of just another fighter.

I liked painting him better than the archer.

Next up is five more Space Marines. These are a lot of fun to paint and I like these models a lot. My dad didn't mind putting them together as much as he did the elves.

Here are close-ups of the Sergeant.

I also finished another five elves. The first archer was done last Sunday and I finished these on Friday.

Next up is another Denethor model. This one is brand new. My dad went to Warhammer World three weeks ago and got his one for me. Now I have two but this one is when he is trying to burn himself and Faramir and is rescued by Gandalf, Pippen and Beregond. This is for the Front Desk and New Acquisitions.

Next up is a Greek hoplite that my dad gave me. He said the Warlord hoplites suck and I'll hate painting it. He was right. But it was easy. This got me the history desk.

The last model is an Abyssal Dwarf (Chaos Dwarf) flame thrower crew from Mantic Games. My dad and I play Kings of War and my army is Chaos Dwarfs. This guy rolls 15 dice so it's really scary.

In Summary:

1 28mm Space Marine jeep @ 20 pts = 20 pts

5 28mm Space Marines @ 5 pts = 25 pts

1 28mm Elf Warrior @ 5 pts = 5 pts

6 28mm High Elves @ 5 pts = 30 pts

1 28mm Hoplite @ 5 pts = 5 pts

1 28mm Artillery flame thrower @ 10 pts = 10 pts

History Bonus = 20 pts

Front Desk and New Acquisitions = 20 pts

Total = 135 pts

Great work here Rhys, and a variety of pieces on display here! I also have issues with Elf models (too clean blah!) but you have done a great job getting through them. Love the Chaos Dwarf ( and who doesn't like a Chaos Dwarf! ) and hope to see more of them in the challenge!

If I could offer a piece of advice on the models, and its mostly personal preference, would be to paint the rim of the bases of the models a single color once the model itself is finished. Either in a straight black, an old school goblin green, or a color matching your gaming table. It will help to bring another layer of cohesion in an army or squad.

Looking forward to more paint bombs like this one in the future!
