From Curt - Harkonnen Ornithopter (6 Points)

Umm. Sire, I think we can confirm Wormsign...

Late Friday night Lady Sarah and I went to the late night premier of Dune II which we very much enjoyed. Wow, what a feast for the eyes and ears! Epic sci-fi at its best.

I've been quite taken by the design of the ornithopers over the past two movies. I love how menacingly instectoid they look. Without giving anything away, I can safely say that the their perceived lethality has nothing but increased in the recent film. Two words: Overwatch Fire - Yikes.

I found this great ornithopter model by Hardware Studios on MyMiniFactory and had it printing while we were at the movie (I know. Such. A. Geek.). Originally designed for 6mm, I nudged the scale up a touch to fit more in-line with my Legions Imperialis stuff (for a non STC pattern - clutches pearls!).

I typically struggle with vehicles, but this little beast was fairly straightforward. I wanted to keep it pretty dark and basic with just panel highlighting and a touch of metallic here and there. I mounted it on a magnetic ball and gimbal flight stand so it can be tilted and posed (with the suitable ornithoptery noises). It was a fun model to work on.

As to points, it's a fairly substantial model for its scale so I dunno, 6 points? I'm not fussed with what our worthy minion decides.

Thanks Kyle for letting me squeeze in with your Sunday crew! :)

Cheers!

- Curt

You are always welcome on the Sunday Crew Curt! Especially with this little gem. Though I do suspect that the ad-mecs won't be sanctioning it for deployment as such.. but to scout worms.. you should be ok.

I have a few files for such vehicles in the archives as well, and it might be time to print and paint one up.. let's see if the sequel spurs me on for such shenanigans then...

6 pts added to your total good sir, and looking forward to seeing your next visit to the Sunday Crew!

Rhunt - Star Wars Legion and High Elves ( 92 pts)

This week is more Star Wars Legion and also some more Oathmark Elves.

A command pack and two 3D prints for the Hostage Exchange.

This first one is four upgrades for the rebels. The comms tech is missing her arm but I painted her anyway.

Back shot

I need the comms tech and sometimes the captain. I've never used the med-droid or the repair-droid, but I might some day.

These two are 3D prints that I'll use for the hostage exchange scenario.

Next up are ten more Oathmark Elves. I did these as sword and board.

Ten more of my Northstar Oathmark Elves. The box had 30 of them.

I still had enough of the Games Workshop elf shields to use them on this unit. I don't know why the set I got came with so many shields but I really like them.

I used my dad's red tufts again. I love how these pop on the table. I also painted the cloaks in different colors.

Close up of the shield These are fun to paint and I'm getting happier with them as I go.

That's all for this week.

10 x 28mm Elves x 5 pts = 50 pts

6 x 32mm Legion x 7 pts = 42

Total = 92 pts

Wonderful work here once again Rhys. I like that you kept the elves bases similar, and it make the unit cohesion so much better. I also realllly love how that bronze shield came out. Great highlighting, and shading there. Looks a bit weathered and aged, which is not surprising considering how long elves live!

Great job, and a massive 92 pts for you today!

JezT LIBRARY Challenge Biography Room - (30 points)

 Dear All

Just a single library submission for me this week. This is my current position in the back room and now moving from the True Crime room to Biography.

For Biography, I have chosen as the book focus, one of the Helion Publishing Books "The Italian Wars".

The biography here is focusing on Charles VIII during his invasion of Italy and I have chosen to paint him using the set of armour and heraldry featuring the Jerusalem Cross as shown on the front cover.

Its a mix and match figure and pretty sure the rider is from Foundry but not sure about the horse manufacturer. Finally a couple of shots of Charles VIII victoriously invading some unlucky Italian city.

Looks like an Imperialist Herald has been captured

Really pleased to get this Commander done and looking forward to using him leading my French Gendarmes on the table top. Points wise should be a simple 10 plus 20 bonus for the room.

All the best Jez

Simple and to the point Jez. Great work, and a worthy commander for the French is ever there was one. I mean.. look at all the white on his horse... he's ready to surrender any moment now.. j/k..

Great job, and an easy 30 pts for you today

From BenitoV: White Scout Car (35 points)

After being conspicuously AWOL for three weeks, I am now able to rejoin the Challenge for its last lap until Spring. Today, I´m introducing the third (after the German Lynx and the British Humber Mk IV) and last recon vehicle planned for this Challenge - a US M3 Scout Car (known in the British and Commonwealth armies as the "White Scout Car").

Approximately 20,000 units were produced and used by the Allied Armies in Western Europe and the Pacific; additionally, roughly 3,500 were lent to the USSR during the war.

With a crew of seven, the vehicle was armed with two 0.3 cal MMGs and one 0.5 cal HMG boasting an impressive firepower.

This is 28mm scale 3D printed model  from Trenchworx. It's a well-designed vehicle with great attention to detail. However, despite three attempts at printing it, the 0.5 cal gun barrel has bent upwards and I haven't been able to fix it (...may be too much Viagra in the resin mix?)

Scoring now: I value this entry at  27 points, with 20 for the vehicle, 5 for the model serving the gun and another 2 for the driver and copilot.

This looks really good Benito! The coloring on the car itself, alongside all the weathering is spot on! I always tended to make mine too green, and would get scolded by the older members in the club.. but this would be right up their alley!

Giving you actually 35 pts, as the figures are figures in the end. Even if only half sized.

So 35 pts for you here!

From PeteF: A Phoenix for The Oversized Section (40 points)

Fire is hard to paint! And there's plenty on this rather lovely sculpt from Mantic Games.  It's a Kings of War model, a Titan, which can be included in both the Salamanders (Lizards riding lizards are definitely something I want to paint more) and Basileans (haughty paladin do-gooding types) factions.

I got the model as prize support at a tournament a while back - I guess the original owner decided against painting all that fire.  It's been sitting on the Pile of Potential waiting for the right moment to rise.  I have to thank Curt and the other Challenge organizers for the themed sections - I don't have an overarching project on the go at the moment and having to come up with models for each section has forced me to try new things and leave my comfort zone.

This one also gave me an excuse to try some new paints from AK - my local store has really branched out now with Vallejo(game, model and air), AP, Citadel, AK, Scale Color, Turbo Dork and I think a few more.  Two yellows an orange and a red make up the fire effects set and I loved using these paints.

The model is about 6 inches high and 8 inches across - full stretch wingspan would be around a foot- quite imposing on the gaming table.  I'll have to paint a whole bunch of lizards or knights if I want to use it for Kings of War.

Maybe score this as a 28mm vehicle for 20 points plus 20 for the room.

Challenge XIV got off to a slooow start for me, but since January I've managed to perambulate through various sections of the Analogueville Library and make a weekly post.  I don't think I'll have time to complete all the sections but with the phoenix that makes at least two sections of four rooms - which I think means I can request a visit to Rare and Antique Books - hopefully there's enough time left to complete this - and maybe a few more challenges.

Great work, and great to hear that you are moving outside of your comfort zone with the challenge here. Was wondering what you would do here, and this looks to be the business for bigger is better.

Great job, and 40 pts for you

From DallasE: More 15mm Space Marines! (26 points)

Okay so today I'm gonna say this project is "finished". These are 15mm Space Marines for my Blood Drinkers army, 3D-printed by Challenger ByronM. It was a bit "challenging" to find STL files for these character models but of course Byron came through.

From left to right here we've got a Chaplain, standard-bearer, Captain, Librarian, and Techmarine.

I had to do something different with the reverse side of the flag, just painted on every Bloo Angels/Drinkers insignia I could there.

The Chaplain's weapon is literally nearly as big as he is.

The Captain has to have a power sword, because power sword!

Never was too keen on Librarians or Techmarines but here they are.

Of course they need a ride! Here's the last Rhino of the four Byron printed for me.

The chalice is hand-painted of course :-)

Lastly, I painted a Land Raider for the boys. My favourite version, this. Just a great looking vehicle eh!

Here's the whole Blood Drinkers force. I like how they turned out and am looking forward to having a game with them. I just need somebody else to jump into the scale. GregB has lots of 15mm Space Marines though so maybe next time we get together, we can have a game! We'll just have to figure out what rules to use... HINT: it won't be 10th edition :-)

Scoring:

2x 15mm vehicles            16 points
5x 15mm infantry            10 points

Total                                   26 points

See you next time!

Quick, easy and to the points! Great selection of mini marines today, and their super rides there.
Easy 26 pts for you Dallas
