From PeteF: Minifigs Camp Follower for a Sorceress Flight (25 points)

This is the second of four camp followers in Minifigs Napoleonic Set 10. I did the cantiniere for The Pantry and hope to find time to finish the set before the end of the challenge.

My Dad painted the set back in the 1980s - I think with oils. I can remember him enjoying adding to his army and speculating which of his troops was supporting the camp follower with her babe in arms. There are many candidates. His was presumably an Anglo Allied camp follower - this one is with the Emperor's Army of the North.

I picked up two Set 10s in a large haul of Minifigs last year. It's fun to paint some of the more peripheral figures in the process of building up the army. I'm using this to take a broomstick ride to The Lair of Spiders/Lair of The Great Beast - there are still rooms on level 2 I want to explore - but time to make it to the Altar is running short. Perhaps I'll find a way to pick up the unexplored rooms on my way back to the surface,

One 25mm figure and a flight bonus for 25 points.

From LeeH - Chambers of Challenge - The Tomb - Gothic Vault with Restless Resident

I can imagine the conversation had by the family of the occupant... "If we build him a really outlandish gothic tomb maybe he'll stay dead this time".

I bought this excellent resin crypt from Debris of War before the last Challenge but didn't have time to finish it. It is such a nice model that it couldn't stay unpainted any longer. I really like the resin terrain by this company as it is flawless and paints up really well. The model is pretty small at 3.5"x3"x4" so it is barely a 5th of a terrain cube...but it looks marvellous so it had to be my entry for this round.

The figure is a 1984 Grenadier Zombie which I bought on eBay a few months ago. I couldn't let the poor fella go unpainted any more, and while his torn shirt may once have been expensive and fancy, his tattered appearance now made me feel sorry for him. What can I say, I have a soft spot for zombies.

(Scoring: 1/5th Terrain Cube (4pts) + 1x28mm figure (5pts) + CoC Bonus = 29 Points)

From ScottC: Modern Insurgents and Civilians (245 points)

I have a sizeable collection of modern Canadian army & Special Forces and insurgents. These models complement the collection and help bring the table to life. I absolutely love when a collection and table tell a story, playing a game is a bonus. To me, painting and hobbying has further helped me understand and appreciate history, both old and new.

The insurgents are all Eureka miniatures. The civilians are mostly Eureka with a sprinkle of Assault Group. The camels are from gripping beast and the oxen are Nolzur Wizkids models. The nomad sniper is from Spectre miniatures. The mortar team is 3d printed from a good friend who has a current kickstarter - Quartermaster 3D - War in Iraq for modern US soldiers and insurgents.

Points:

39 - 28mm figures = 195 pts

1 - mortar team = 10pts

2 oxen + 2 camels= 40 pts

From DrQ: Orks in the Hall of Heroes (55 points)

A group of Orks might not seem the most heroic of figures for the Hall of Heroes, but here me out: These last seven boyz (technically six boyz and a nob) represent the completion of my first thirty-model unit! As such I think that's a bit of heroics for me if not for them.

I know the hotness right now is a nob with double kill saws, but I don't have any of those bits lying around. So, he'll have to go with just a basic slugga and choppa for now.

Not much to say about these ladz; you've seen this paint scheme several times before. But, one interesting model is this boy:

At one point I had done a head swap conversation of him and added a backpack, hoping to use him as a character in D&D. That never came about, so I snipped off the conversion and add a shoota so he could go back with the other ladz. Since I couldn't find a good way to remove the backpack, he's just a unique sculpt now that probably won't even stand out when seen in the larger Green Tide.

With this first unit complete, I wanted to get a picture of all 30—I just couldn't fit them all in my current lighting rig. The next 30 will have a slightly different look to distinguish the units in the WAAAGH.

As far as points: we've got seven models for a total of 35 and another 20 for the area bonus, for a total of 55.
--------
Nice additions to your green tide Doc - more choppas and shootas is always good! The Hero claim is rather tenuous methinks, but no more than what some others have claimed so to be consistent I'll permit it

From MIke W - 22 x 28mm Elizabethan Irish Kerns (110 Points)

In today's post, I am 'show & telling', I am posting about a batch of Wargames Atlantic, plastic 28mm Irish Kerns. The set is marketed as Dark Ages / Medieval period figures but these generic fighting times remained largely unchanged in Ireland for centuries - thus I am calling them out as Elizabethans.

The completed batch

These figures are simple to build, coming as a frames of six figures which typically ae full torsos plus an arm. Thus when building these you just need to add a weapon arm, a head and a shield.

Another view

And another...

There are many other detailed parts to opt (or not) to apply to the figures, including cloaks, knives, swords etc. Once built I glued them to 20mm round bases and undercoated in white.

A close up of five of the little guys.

Overall a quick way to bulk out any Irish Army at a reasonable cost.

Five more

I used an old pot of Citadel Bubonic Brown for the distinctive ochre coloured dress that these guys wore and then added a random number of coloured jackets. Flash was then added and then spear-staff and Shields were coloured in.

Five more, the guy in the red jacket would likely be a higher status individual

When painting completed and mistakes rectified, I gave the skin areas a watered down Army Painter Flesh wash and then the rest of the figure a watered down Strong Tone wash.

Final close-up batch, seven figures with the leader in a cloak out front.

Figures were completed with a Matt varnish and the bases were covered with fine sand and electro-static grass.

How they started, I nearly forgot to take a photo -
so here undercoated and a couple with initial paint applied

POINTS

22 x 28mm Foot Figures @ 5 Pts ea.  = 110 Points

They look like handy fellows in a scrap! I like your choice of colourstoo

The Navel Arms Race Side Duel Update

Everyone is now on the board! Noel has a slight lead, with me right behind him, and Peter has the bronze, but his shipyard has been quiet of late. I am sure we are all expecting a Points Broad Side from Miles at some point.

From JamieM - 7TV Argonauts

More 7TV as I discovered these undercoated and based figures in my boxes of holding whilst rummaging through looking for something else.

These Captain Scarlet inspired figures weren’t bought for any particular reason.... but the refreshed “Argonauts” cast from 7TV gave me an idea as I needed some robotic minions with rifles.

In a wardrobe decision worthy of the 60’s & 70’s shows that 7TV is based on, I decided to paint their skin and hair silver, as if they’ve had silver makeup applied to make them “robots” in a budgetary conscious way.

All in green for a consistent look and I added a sculpt of theirs that I liked (one of the females with a longer jacket) and she can perhaps be the unit leader.

Next up are two Talos (Taloi?). These are larger chaps and form part of the mechanical menace that the madman Ulysses Argo unleashes on the world.

I’m not over the moon about how the brass turned out, but I’ve already done it twice as I didn’t like my first effort either so I’ve decided to just move on.....

Just for context, I’ve included a picture of the full Argonaut “cast” that I have. The other figures were half finished at the end of a previous challenge and I hadn’t gotten around to finishing them until now.

These are some of the other nefarious droids Argonuses to wreak havoc.

And another family shot.

No points for the other figures, so just 6 x 28mm figures for 30 and 2 x 40mm figures for 14 to add up to 44 for the post.

They remind me of some kind of Dr Who villains! Good one :-)
