From GregB - 15mm Imperial Fist Space Marines (46 points)

15mm/1-100 scale Imperial Fist Space Marines and support vehicles. 3d prints all around.

One of the great things about the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge is inspiration provided by fellow Challengers. The inspiration can be a particular jolt when you see another Challenger working on similar projects to yours, and even more fun when those projects are somewhat "niche" by gaming standards. So I was pretty happy to see PeterA sharing some 15mm 30k Space Marines earlier in this edition of the Challenge - and duly inspired, I rushed to get some of my own 15mm 30k figures back under the brush!

It was a couple of years ago (during an earlier AHPC, or course) that I noticed Byron starting up with some 15mm 40k stuff. I loved how it looked. I am sure many gamers can relate to that experience of different gaming trade-offs offered by different scales of miniatures. 28mm figures (and larger) offer fantastic, detailed sculpts. Smaller scales, on the other hand, give more room on the table and engagement ranges that "look" a little better on a 6' x 4' table, particularly for settings that involve more vehicles. 15mm size/1-100 scale models can really provide a nice balance between these two aspects of miniature gaming.

Naturally I immediately thought of GW's Horus Heresy setting for 15mm gaming - and it is! Here are a few reinforcements for the Loyalist side of my 15mm 30k collection. These are all painted in the bright colours of the VII Legion Astartes, the Imperial Fists.

Veteran Tactical Squad

Tactical squad from the VII Legion Astartes.

These are classic Space Marines clad in Mark VI Power Armour - the famous "beakie" helmets.

Sergeant and banner-bearer.

Missile launcher - of the classic "shark fin" variety, and melta gunner.

We have one officer with a power sword and a bolt pistol, and two other marines in the squad are equipped with support weapons - a missile launcher and a melta gun.

Two regular marines.

View of the rear detail and the power packs.

Two more of the regular marines.

Decals thankfully can be found among the sheets sold for the GW's existing 30k miniature ranges, so that is a nice touch for the shoulder pads.

Dreadnoughts

Let's party!

The loyalists will be pleased to benefit not only from some extra firepower, but some extra "punch", as you can see from the power fists. One dreadnought is equipped with an assault cannon, and the other a plasma cannon.

Assault cannon, and an aggressive attitude! Getting results in the defense of The Emperor...

Plasma cannon on this fellow.

I love these dreadnought designs - particularly the one that is pointing!

Whirlwind

Whirlwind APC and spotter/observer Space Marine.

The Whirlwind is another "classic" Space Marine fixture, an MRLS-type support weapon based on the ubiquitous Rhino APC chassis.

View of of the back tracks and ramp.

Great details on this 3D print.

I also painted up this one figure as a kind of command figure/forward observer type.

Big thanks once again to Byron for printing all of these models for me! He is always putting up with me bugging him with random requests to see if he can print this-or-that different STL. Hopefully PeterA will see these and fire out a few more of his Death Guard too!

For scoring, we have:

- 11 x 15mm artillery crew = 22 points

- 3 x 15mm crew-served weapons = 24 points

Total: 44 points

We also have one skull!

---------

Fabulous work Greg! Love the bright yellows- often a tough colour to pull off work in a gritty 40k way

I do think you've short changed yourself on the scoring though - I'm counting the Dreadnoughts as vehicles for a total of 46 points

From GregB - Loyalist Armour for "Legions Imperialis" (8 points)

A squadron of Imperial Fist Sicaran tanks for GW's "Legions Imperialis" game.

A little palette cleanser of an entry here on Christmas Eve - a unit of Sicaran Tanks for GW's rebooted Epic 30k game "Legions Imperialis". These are multi-part plastic kits from GW, and they are painted in the colours of the VII Legion Astartes, the tiresome (if stoic) Imperial Fists.

Heavy plasma-type cannons in the turret and lascannons on the sponsons - this configuration is ideal for engaging armoured targets, like other vehicles or some of the scary walkers.

GW botched the rollout of this new game quite comically in 2023. While some of the issues relating to supply of models have alleviated since the game launched, you can still sense the impact of the failed release for the game in a lack of enthusiasm among the local 30k community. It would not be accurate to say nobody is playing it, but interest is quite limited and I frequently encounter hobbyists who had been keen to try it, but gave up when they could not obtain it, or subsequently gave up on it due to lack of models. I still haven't found an opponent to give the game a try - even those who have small collections have them put away, or are more focused on the main 30k game etc.

Yellow armour for hope! You can see some of the different decal options used on the vehicles.

As an old-time fan of the original "Epic" game from GW, I am still working on a collection myself - after all, I find the models remarkable in their quality, if somewhat tricky to assemble owing to their size. But given that there is no game or event pressing me to get moving, my pace of painting these figures has been very, shall we say, "stately" (i.e. laughably slow).

Autocannons in the turret, and heavy boaters on the sponson - this configuration is primed to take out light vehicles and flyers.

All the same, this slow pace allows for time to enjoy the models. And to swear constantly at the yellow paint! The Imperial Fist colours look striking when you are finished, but wow...what a pain! Even on little tanks like these!

There are scads of different tanks for GW's Horus Heresy setting. The Sicaran tanks fit somewhere in the middle in terms of size and impact. They are pretty fast, have slighter armour, and can pick different weapons load outs to emphasize anti-personnel, anti-tank or a mix of both. One model has a vehicle commander popped out of the hatch, so it can serve as a command tank should such a thing be needed in the game.

Four little tanks equals 8 points - not a whole lot, but like I said...a nice little palette cleanser.

Lovely work Greg! Your brushwork is so clean and precise. Also the yellow you've chosen (as painful as its been to work with) really makes them pop on the tabletop.  I too have been really disappointed with GW's 'own goal' approach to design, marketing and rollout of this game. This is something you could say is typical of them, but it's not the case as their more boutique 'epic-scaled' game 'Adeptus Titanicus' was/is actually very good and was for the most part well-supported. That being said the minis for Imperialis are it's strong suite with the models being amazing in their intricacy, especially the vehicles (as we can clearly see here). Hopefully if you get enough models painted for both sides you can entice a local gamer to try out the rules with you. 'Stately progress' is still progress!

Again, great work Greg!

From ThomasG: Orruk Hai [New Acquisitions] & Epic Beginnings (35 points)

Hello one and all! I've experienced what must be, my worst year of wargaming ever in 2023, but knowing the challenge was coming along, kept the candle light flickering, and never going out. With my gaming group having less and less time to play, having to close my gaming group after not covering costs 3 months in a row due to being the only attendee most months, cancelling weekend events attendance last minute due to my lifts pulling out and generally being unable to feel connected to the wargaming community.
Yet not all was lost in the days that ticked by, as my 10 year old son took up Warhammer 40k with a Necron army, and my wife decided she fancied giving Age of Sigmar a go with Seraphon. I had amazing support from fellow hobbyists via Twitter and the two great friends from my gaming group. Slowly my wife and son collected minis together, as I dusted off my 40k Orks, and bought in to a Maggotkin of Nurgle army.
However they just didn't inspire that real buzz of hobby inspiration, mostly as the models and kits were so dated. Then September came around, and the Orruk Ironjawz got a number of new models, taking them from the old Black Orc minis, to some beautiful new works of art.
It took me a while to get the money together, but I was able to grab enough money after Christmas to buy the new 'Ardboy Big Boss and the character Zoggrok Anvilsmasha (you'll get to see him soon I promise) and, although not my initially planned minis to upload, I was so inspired by them, I got carried away, and here we have the Big Boss for you all.

I chose to theme the army on the Uruk Hai design from the Lord of the Rings movies, using a Wargames Foundry paint triad called "African Flesh" which worked an absolute treat.

The armour was a trial attempt at applying a method I use for vehicles and larger minis (eg Titans for Legions Imperialis) on to something not detailed, and I like to think it has worked well.

However as you'll be able to see, this left a very muted palette of mostly earthy tones, so in an effort to bring the fantasy back, I honoured the mighty Obelix from Asterix literary fame, with these splendid trousers!

I've really started to enjoy painting textures on to my models, and finally plucked up the courage to attempt horns/tusks that weren't just bone coloured. It wasn't easy as I'd painted pretty much everything else around them first, but again, the results made me smile.
With a simple swamp themed base to match my wife's Seraphon force created using Stirland Mud texture paint and some Nurgles Rot for the puddles, I kept to the overall colour theme, but reintroduced green because they are orcs after all.
And that was my first new model of the year painted and based. But what was the planned challenge pile to work through? Well it was my Winter Solstice gift from me to me, in the shape of a Legions Imperialis release box. Having never played "Epic" before I was excited to get in to the newest iteration of it, and felt this was the easiest way to do so. With two small forces, I can hopefully get some games in at home, and if I'm very lucky with some friends one day.

Not knowing which Legion to go for, I opted for Imperial Fists, as I collect Black Templars (alongside my Orks) for 40k, and so it felt fitting to get the progenitors on to the table top one way or another. Yet, I was reading that the 1st Company of the Imperial Fists had a habit of wearing black terminator armour, so that's why they are in the Templar colours.

All of these minis were painted using Citadel Contrast paints, as putting any real effort in to them felt almost a waste of time, owing to both the number of and relative fragility of them in game. After a Wraithlord spray priming, the yellow was done with "Imperial Fist" and the black with "Black Templar" almost as if it was all meant to be! The red details were done with "Magmadroth Flame" and the blue with something I can't remember.

Once dry they were glued to their bases and then I tried something new; Asphalt texture paint from AK Interactive. I was wary to start as I feared the grit would look too big, but I think it ended up working really nicely. They only need to be a quick job, so hopefully next time I post I'll have a few more to show off... possibly even a bit more armoured too.

Well there we have it, I have returned, beaten and bruised from almost entirely walking away from the hobby, but now in such a better place because of it. I have taken 2023 as a learning experience not to rely on or expect others to keep my hobby light lit, but to enjoy the times we can share together when they come, and making them all the sweeter for it. Yes it means my historical gaming will take a back seat, but that's OK, hobby is hobby.
I hope you enjoy the rest of my work this year in the challenge, and I look forward to showing off what I get to create with you all.

Yours,

Tom.

Points:
15x10mm 8mm Space Marines = 15pts  7.5
1x28mm Orruk = 5pts
New Acquisitions = 20pts
Total = 40 32.5

PS. Remember to check the settings on your phone camera; I had been using a 16mp setting, wondering why nothing looked right, only to find I had the 64mp just a click away!

I'm glad you are back on track after what seems to have been a very trying period, Tom! And back you are indeed. The Big Boss is stunning, is skin has come out really well and the trousers are awesome! Your painting of the little space buggers is simple but very effective. Well done!  However, the new Epic are marked as 8mm and are included in the 6mm-8mm category I am afraid, so they are worth 0.5 point each. On the other hand I think the subtle reference to Obelix deserves a little bonus, so that's 35 points for you.

From TeemuL: Imperial Imperial Fists [Coruscant] (45 points)

After keeping the distance on Perelandra, it seemed like a nice idea to continue with that habit. Imperial world of Coruscant seems nice and easy, but there seems to be a war nevertheless. Imperial Imperial Fists, half a company in fact, seem to preparing for a battle on the green fields. Nothing says Imperial better than Imperial, doesn't it? May be Imperial Fists says it even better, with a little punch, eh? I know, Imperial Stout would be the ultimate victor, but let's not drink and space drive.

Imperial Fists are one of the original 20 legions created by the Emperor thousands and thousands years ago (the current time is about 40 000 AD) and they wore the bright yellow colors. They were known for their specialization in the siege warfare and carefully created and executed plans. Later on they were splitted in several Chapters, but one of the Chapters carried on with the old name. They still stick to plans and formalities, they follow the Codex Astartes closely, so you can see that all of these are members of the 3rd company (red trims on shoulder pads), each unit is 10 men strong (can be divided in two 5 man combat squads if needed) and led by a sergeant (red helmet) or veteran sergeant (red helmet with with stripe) while his second in command is a veteran (white helmet) leading the another combat squad, if needed. You can also see the chapter icon on the left shoulder pad (inadequate xenos intelligence most likely sees just a tiny black spot on a white spot before being terminated by overwhelming firepower) and the squad type and number on the right shoulder pad (this might seem as a tiny white spot on a black spot to an untrained eye). They carry flags with them, so that the high command can follow their actions in an old fashioned way in case the high tech equipment fails due the the warp storm, magnetic fields, radiation or other malfunctions. In the flags you get a better look on the squad numbers, the red stripe on the flag identies the sergeant. Flags are made of that very useful metal thing you can find on some wine bottles.

There seems to be some chaos there, since some of the second squads seem to have disoriented space marines, which is quite unlikely to happen on the parade field. May be they are expecting an assault and survey the environment closely, who knows? All of these were already glued on the bases by the previous owner and I didn't want to try to detach them, I only noticed the strange facings after priming them and starting to paint them yellow... All the disoriented fellows went to the 2nd squads, they can train there with the veteran. I know some people now use round bases for these, but since these were already glued to the square bases, it wasn't actually an option for me.

Chapter icons visible on the left, squad icons on the right

The bases represent the ever green fields of the grim and dark future, where all the battles were fought about the 20 years ago or so. There is green sand (or something similar) glued to them and small tufts, which in this scale look like bushes. I sprinkled some red sand there as well to break the green fields, there are flowers and other non-green vegetation on Coruscant - most likely very poisonous.

Veteran sergeant on the left of the left squad, veteran on the left of the right squad

There is a warp maelstrom next to Coruscant and Vlogsphere doesn't sound that welcoming, so let's jump in to the Warp Maelstrom and see what happens (I expect to apper somewhere along the Middle Ring)!

There are 50 Space Marine, each 6mm tall and worth half a point, so 25 points in total. That makes a Squirrel as well (who would have thought?) and the 20 points for the Coruscant planet.

My personal Squirrel count: 7

- 20mm Napoleonic

- 28mm Sludge

- 28mm Pulp

- 28mm Warhammer 40000 Xenos

- 28mm General (including Gloranthan) Fantasy

- 1:300 Cruel Seas

- 6mm Epic Imperial Fists

From Millsy:

Lovely little yellow fellas you have here Teemu. This is about the only scale I enjoy painting yellow! Good to see the old square bases in use too mate. Another 45 points on your tally. Nice work!

From StuartL - Too Many Duels - 60 Points

Hello again.
For my second entry for today, I have some side-duel related pictures to post. Rather than make multiple posts for small submissions, I figured that I would save some time and get them all up together.

First up, a pair of Warhammer 30,000 Imperial Fists. I am not doing an army of these models, but a forum I am a member of has an Imperial Fists themed painting event running and I intend to submit these minis to it. (AHPC gets the first look at them, naturally). These two will serve as special characters in my games of 30K at some stage I suppose.

These five minis are Gripping Beast's plastic Anglo-Saxons. I currently have a large Anglo-Saxon army already painted, so these will simply be added to the pile. I really need to get more Vikings and Normans done for Stamford Bridge and Hastings scenarios. Maybe in the next challenge.

Last year I painted a small force of AWI continentals for Rebels and Patriots. When I started that project, I bought masses of minis from the Perrys, including some metal militia figures, with the goal of fighting the Guilford Courthouse scenario at some point. The Perrys do some great figures and these were a lot of fun to paint. As a rule, I prefer to paint figures in uniform colours as I can batch paint them very easily, so I wasn't particularly looking forward to this batch. Now that they are done, I'm pleased with how they turned out. I still have a load more of them to paint, but I doubt it will happen before the end of the challenge.

Anyway, 12x 28mm minis puts an extra 60 points onto my total for today.
As these are the first entries for the AWI and Dark Ages that I have posted, they net me two Squirrels. The marines are neither a unique entry, nor large enough to count for that side duel though. As GW minis they do add 10 points to my GW duel and the guy with the back pack mounted symbol is rocking 5 skulls all by himself.

My running Duels totals:
GW Points - 806
Skullz - 451
Squirrels - 15

From JamieM - Epic 30k Assault Detachment Burch's Bluff (75 points)

Having (mostly) recovered from the "teensy sky dive" out of Sarah's Balloon, I found myself in the wilds of Burch's Bluff, a place notorious for the many, many rulesets roaming wild in the area, the miniatures of many different scales for the same period living side by side and the odd signpost reading only "Horus for Hope"..... spying only a local hermit who seemed to be painting tiny little figures, I decided to make like I was in Rome and join in!

This submission consists of 8 bases of  Imperial Fist Assault infantry for Epic 30k.  The figures are from Vanguard Miniatures from the "Defeat in Detail" range I think and look enough like 30k marines to do the business.

"Why Imperial Fist Assault troops?" I hear you ask..... well, a couple of reasons.  Firstly, I've had these figures lying around for a while, ever since Greg's Epic 30k forays got me interested in Epic stuff again as a matter of fact.  But then I had to decide on a legion.  By happy coincidence, I have absolutely fallen in love with the Iyanden Yellow Contrast paint by GW and I knew Greg had an epic scale Imperial Fist force.

I decided to therefore kill three birds with one chainsword and after a quick visit to the EpicAU website to look at the army lists, I proceeded to paint them using my new favourite colour, get the points for visiting Burch's Bluff and also provide this detachment as my "Challenge Gelt" figure.  I've also let Greg know that I'll be sending them over to join his forces fighting for the benevolent Emperor against Horus' dastardly villains.

As it's tricky to get details into 6mm figures, they got three sergeants with red helmets and a chaplain to encourage into the fray in his trademark black armour and skull coloured helm.

At 0.5 points per figure I make it 20 points for the figures, plus 30 points for the location, plus 25 for the challenge figure.  I think I spy Mudry's Mesa in the distance and may well head there next....

These are really nice, the yellow really makes them pop. I know nothing about Epic but I'm sure that on the field these will look suitable Epic. Smart use of location and Curtgeld gives you 75pts

From TeemuL: Imperial Fists vehicles, Squirrel 10 (26 points)

There's an old saying "New Year, New Army". How about "New Squirrel, New Army, New Game"? Yeah, I'm picking up those squirrels this week. So a completely new game and scale for me, 6mm Epic WH40K. I was going through my unpainted miniatures to find out something different for a Squirrel challenge when I found my collection of Epic miniatures. I have never painted them, never really played with them either. So I carefully calculated to 13 (6mm vehicles are 2 point each) and got myself nice set of 10 Rhinos and 3 Land Raiders, one of the latter ones is metal, others are plastic.

I have always felt, that WH40K doesn't really work on 28mm scale (or 32mm either), the ranges are just wrong, which makes close combat too important. Nice game though, but brains need to be set on correct mood. May be 6mm makes it work better, lots of vehicles makes more sense, ranges are hopefully more reasonable and so on. There are many Space Marine chapters to choose from, but somehow bright yellow and the combat doctrines of Imperial Fists have always interested me. Painting bright yellow is not that interesting, I ended up painting quite dull yellow. 6mm needs some practice, but I guess these are a good start.

"Hammer" in the middle

I painted them all a bit different, picking details in red in various parts and painting the chapter symbol (or white circle with black mess) on different places etc. I marked one as a HQ Rhino with skull, others are Tactical Rhinos with arrow. Land Raiders are bit different as well, the metal one even has a name label on it. They came without the base, so I hope I'm not penalized (pointswise) for not basing them even though I know some people like to base these small vehicles. Might make them easier to handle.

That's all for now, but I hope to tackle some more Squirrels before the day ends somewhere in the North America!
Close up of Rhino
That's 13*2 points for 26 points (unless Tamsin is on duty)...

Cloes up of Land Raider

List of my Squirrels here, just to keep my calculations correct and help the Duels Wallah and other interested individuals:
28mm Lord of the Rings, 28mm WH40K, 28mm General Fantasy, Age of Sigmar, Dungeons & Dragons Boardgames, 28mm Ancient Greek, 28mm Pulp, 28mm Oldhammer, 15mm WW2, 6mm Epic WH40K

TamsinP:

What a lucky fluke, I am on duty. And I do agree with your scoring (I can still feel the weals from the lash Curt applied after my stint on Saturday. Ouchie!).

Nice work on the little tanks.

From Mike F - Imperial Fist Cerberus - 23 points

This is my first Wednesday post and it's an Imperial Fist Cerberus tank destroyer for 30k. I was hoping to have it ready for a New Years Day game, but the line highlighting took me a bit longer due to the size of the vehicle. This is the last Imperial Fist unit for a few months as I'll be focusing on other things for the rest of the challenge.

That gun would have come in handy against GregB's Sons of Horus Fellblade!

"Ha-ha! Twin-linked, fool!"

  - Turn Signals on a Land Raider

This is an excellent vehicle , Michael, superbly weathered and battleworn. And yes, those guns would he nice to have at the ready when the traitor's Fellblades come a-calling!

And will there be more stalwart defenders of the Imperium on their way to destroy the God-Emperor's foes? Something tells me that we've not seen the last of the Imperial Fists this Challenge...

20 points for a 28mm vehicle but an extra three points because it's such a big unit. Well done!

From GregB - Last Post - Some More Epic 30k (16 Points)

Not a bang, but a whimper...a few more Epic 30k bits to wrap things up

So I'm piling on among the myriad of final posts for this edition of the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge, but I want to chime in with the final shudders of my own painting table as well as some of my own thanks.

As to the content itself, well, it's not huge. A few more vehicles for my Epic 30k efforts.  There are two Sicaran tanks, two Deredeo-class dreadnoughts and a Deimos pattern command Rhino APC from the VII Legion, the Imperial Fists, probably the stoutest and foremost of the so-called "loyalists", fighting to the bitter end in defence of the alleged "Emperor", if such a thing or person even actually existed...these vehicles and walkers are rounding out established elements of existing forces in my Epic collection.

Sicaran battle tanks of the VII Legion, the Imperial Fist.  Hmmm...that sounds kind of fascist, doesn't it? Horus is so much more tolerant and open to new ideas...
The green vehicle is a gunship for the XVI Legion, the Sons of Horus, enlightened followers of the Warmaster and his bid for hope and change in the galaxy.  This is the first of several Epic scale Space Marine aircraft I had intended to paint during this Challenge, but didn't quite get to because...I'm a wargamer and I got distracted!  On the plus side, I'm stuck into SAGA now...

Command Rhino APC for the Imperial Fists.  I have finished a few of these now, a benefit of the Challenge

Deredeo class dreadnoughts...they are small on the table, but they are armed to the teeth and wreck a LOT of sh!t...

Storm Eagle gunship of the XVI Legion - carries troops AND wrecks sh*t...will be fun to paint a few more of these for the Epic gaming tables...
I am sorry I have not been able to comment on the flood of submissions this weekend, but I was a bit pre-occupied with a local gaming event here in Winnipeg - Legions Maxximus.  We staged an Epic 30k demonstration game today, and several models painted in the Challenge saw action for the first time - here are a few photos:
Titans of Legion Gryphonicus lead a loyalist assault...so deluded....
The Imperial Fists mount a deadly assault on the Sons of Horus in a urban setting...a Fellblade awaits the outcome...
Oh yeah!!! Titans clash in "close combat"...the Legio Mortis Titan on the right would rip the Loyalist Reaver titan to pieces...the Warmaster approved...

Points-wise, this amounts to...not a whole lot...four 6mm vehicles and two 6mm walkers. Curt will sort it out.

There are too many people to thank...but I want to thank a few.  First of all, my Tuesday minions, Alan and Paul.  Well done, guys!  I also really want to thank the participants in the 30k side duel - Iannick, Jamie and Alex. It's been awesome, a spur and motivation to finish a lot of figures and continue to enjoy a "period" and setting that is near and dear to me.  You guys help make it even better. I have so enjoyed connecting with you, in spirit of the Challenge that Curt has inspired, so thanks, and keep in touch!

An additional acknowledgement for Iannick, and his awesome work on the Curtgeld. You are a brilliant painter! With the hipster lightbox and everything! Woohoo! I look forward to getting some kind of grand 30k game together in Montreal, or at my cabin on Lake Superior, or here in the Prairies...we'll figure it out....

To SeanM...I'm sorry my friend, but Canada Post has not delivered our Curtgeld in time...I promise I will get the job done when it shows up.  We won't get the points, but I won't let you down - I have too many great memories of gaming together here in Winnipeg for that.

To others, like MartinN, Lee, Peter and more I can't name here...you have inspired me to dive into other periods and settings.  Thank you for answering my questions and nudging me along.  I can't say too much here, but let's just say, in terms of the next Challenge, I have one word to share...Byzantines...

And most of all, thanks to my great friend Curt.  Every year you do this Challenge, it rams home once again how much I enjoy hanging out with you, the great memories we share of gaming and hanging out together on Fawcett Avenue in Winnipeg.  Damn, I miss you and Sarah, more than I can properly articulate.  So I will leave it with this - all the best my friend, and I look forward to seeing you again soon...

Cheers all - great painting all around! Thank you, and see you next time!!

Stonking stuff once again, Duderino!

These last vehicles will add the icing to a wonderfully executed Challenge, my friend. Yup, you were on fire this year Greg.  The quantity of your work was only exceeded by its quality. But better than all of that was the wonderful fun of reading your submissions. I know there were more than a few of us who rubbed our hands together whenever we saw a 'Greg post' online, as we knew we would be treated to a entertaining combination of charming self-deprecation, joyous dork-comentary and razor-sharp wit. That in of itself was 'epic'.

Now, start priming those Byzantines for the next Challenge. I'll be right beside you with the Sassanids (and maybe a few Arabs). Until we meet across the next tabletop, mon ami. :)
