Imperial Sentry Guns are analogs for the (remarkably similar looking) guns in Aliens. They don't have crews in 40K either but I've used a few spare miniatures to give the impression they are being set up.
The gun on the left below is a first edition sculpt and the scanner/horn(?) thingy on top was a bit damaged when it arrived so I've assembled the gun back-to-front to provide a little protection. I actually prefer it that way. Maybe that says something about the way my mind works.
The second gun has the dubious honour of being attended by the only plastic chap in the whole army (he's kneeling).
Technician 3rd Class Bromley is hard at work below configuring his gun for action. He's the only man in the whole army wearing his standard issue flak armour but still disdains the helmet as it crushes his mohawk and won't fit comfortably over his head band. He's nobody's fool though and is wearing his armour for good reason, the Series 5 units were famous for randomly entering target acquisition mode when being configured. Your Series 6 unit, now THAT was a proper sentry gun and no mistake...

Plastic kneeling guy? Sheesh... standard are slipping! |
So that's it. An army I started painting almost 12 months ago in Challenge 5 is complete at roughly 130 x infantry, 20 odd man-packed support weapons, 3 x walking AFV and 2 x tracked AFVs. This is what the Challenge is all about folks - the kind of motivation that makes you disdain family, friends, food, water and personal hygiene. What's not to like?
Cheers,
Millsy
A disdain for personal hygiene... Hmm, you know, I thought I could smell something coming up from Australia, but I couldn't quite place it.
Technician 3rd Class Bromley?! That kills me. Maybe when he hits 2nd Class They'll give him a truck to haul.
I fondly remember this army from last year Millsy, and it's wonderful to see you bring it to a conclusion. Well done. Now, be a good lad and go have a bath - and go all-out and use the soap this time!Edit: Just ejected a mid-sized house spider from my daughter's bedroom and couldn't resist...
By the Emperor's Hand Bromley, shoot that damn thing before it turns round!!! |
A first edition tarantula! By Jove, that's an excellent find and really nice painted up. Extra marks for using the first edition gunner too. I hope the others don't pick on the plastic chaps too much :)
ReplyDeleteFirst edition tarantula > first edition huntsman. Winner!
DeleteGreat work,Millsy!!
ReplyDeleteWell finished is a state of mind. I am sure if it was me I would still add things, maybe a few more vehicles. Maybe some hover bikes! Ok GW are not making hover bikes, but if they did!!
ReplyDeleteNice to have an army finished.
That spider is nearly big enough to put a saddle on. I know there are bigger but if you will live in a country where even the wildlife is out to get you I have to say it serves you right!
Oh man, I would scream like a teenage girl if I saw one of those. I hate spiders. YIKES!!
DeleteYou'd hate it here Curt. That really is only mid-sized and completely "harmless". The bigger ones pinch steaks off the BBQ and ride the dogs when they think you're not looking.
DeleteThe ones which don't EAT the dogs, anyway...
DeleteOh, did you bump into Colonel Bromley on the way here? His column arrived at the bivouac just before yours, I think...
ReplyDelete; )
Great stuff and many congrats on your achievement. Lovely touch with the wildlife too :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff Millsy... Surely no army is aver actually finished! But merely in stasis
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff - I do hope you got points for the spider - including it is pure genius.
ReplyDeleteI too find personal hygiene to be a time waster during the Challenge - paint or bathe? it's an easy choice for me. Perhaps that's why my workshop is consigned to the basement?
Lovely stuff Millsy :)
ReplyDeleteYou do realise that none of us believe you when you say that the Challenge is the cause of your disdain for personal hygiene, don't you? :p
It keeps the spiders away too.
DeleteIf I was Bromley, I'd nuke that thing from orbit.
ReplyDeleteIt's the only way to be sure.
DeleteNot a fan of Scifi/Fantasy periods, but this is an outstanding painting work, no doubt!
ReplyDeletePS: had a big laugh with the spider photo
Great job. It seems to be the year of the Imperial Guard. I'm sure we have big spiders out here but I haven't seen any. Luckily the pest company has kept the bark scorpions out of the house.
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff Millsy! Cheers PD
ReplyDeleteWell done Millsy. I don't know what it is with you and Dave claiming things are "complete", however...just dangerous talk...
ReplyDeletethey are fantastic!
ReplyDeletethe catachan are the coolest troopers of 40K,the"John Rambo" style!
Nice job on the project I like the guns with 'crew' congratulations on " finishing" the army
ReplyDeleteWell if these are mid-sized house spiders where you're coming from Mr. Millsy than Australia is off the chart for any future trips around the globe. The missus would probably run all the way to the airport before I could even get that beast out of the room. Fabulous figures nonetheless! Your Catachans are simply awesome and I'd like to see an army shot of these.
ReplyDeleteI should point out that my Mohawk is due to a lot of white hair and a mature hairline, frikken Iroquois are almost as bad as Cherokee! ;)
ReplyDeleteLove the guns and great head swap too, I told ya the plastic heavy weapon crew are not too bad!
The Recon way of dealing with spiders... no sudden movements they startle easy, don't look em in the eye as they don't like being stared at, and just mentally chant " move along, nothing to see here." ;)
Thanks all. Very pleased to be "done". :-)
ReplyDeleteVery, very nice! Great figures too, from a brilliant age...
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on completing the force, it looks great all together. I only ever managed about 2000 points of guard before I got sick of them, but that included a few chimera for mech vets... so 2500 of mostly infantry is really great going!
ReplyDeleteGreat entry and congrats on finishing the Catachans! Love the last shot :)
ReplyDeleteYou can tell you're an Aussie now Millsy, nobody else will handle house beasts that size :-)
ReplyDeleteYikes - 1:1 scale bugs! And there was me about to congratulate you on the colour scheme. Great work on the actual painting, Millsy!!
ReplyDeleteThat spider gives new definition to "scale creep." Yikes.
ReplyDeleteGreat work on the remaining figures! Congrats on finishing the project. A 2,500-point IG army must require an 8x5 table to deploy fully...
