Hi Folks.
I was almost put off doing a wrap up as this year has turned out to be a very unproductive one, almost embarrassingly so. I have mentioned in previous posts about my state of mind and mental illness and this has certainly played in defusing my normally prolific work to a trickle. After two years of being practically housebound, I've realised that I will not safely be able to get back to the club and that has played it's part too. Very much "if I'm not going to play with them, why paint them?" syndrome.
I must mention the Late Roman Cataphract Varnishing Disaster too which after two months of prepping models for the challenge was a bit of a nail in the coffin.
But of course, my very state of mind is solid evidence of why I should paint. after a month or so of total inaction with the brush I finally managed two sessions over the last two days and that, well, that is a vast improvement.
Anyway, please forgive my self indulgence.
I managed two units (I'm not even going to count the points- suffice to say it's not quite the number I had planned! LOL)
I'm moving the studio around at the moment so it's impossible for me to do a group picture at present so I hope my single images will suffice?
Trastmara Spanish- Italian Wars, Ordinance:
With the assorted disasters you may not have painted very many figures, but what you did finish was superb! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Tamsin.
DeleteWhat Tamsin said. Very good of you to put up a wrap up after all. The quality of your painting is astonishing, so please do continue! I very much look forward to seeing you and your awesome work in the next Challenge, when you will hopefully have a smoother ride and be in better health, Darell!
ReplyDeleteThanks Emkenic. I have a serious number the Late Romans that will need to meet the brush for next year. I should be over the varnishing incident by then! And have ordered 12 more Cataphracts! LOL
DeleteTop effort mate, always a joy to look at your stuff 👍
ReplyDeleteCheers Ken mate.
DeleteIt's always good to see your wonderful figures, however many of them there are, I hope the future is an improvement for you!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks Iain. Appreciated :)
DeleteYou may have fallen short of your target, but your work was absolutely outstanding. Thank you for sharing it with us.
ReplyDeleteCheers Curt. This year was not quite what I was expecting (in a number of ways!) but I'm fighting and that is, at the end of the day, what counts.
DeleteMore wonderful work Darrell and I hope you can find a way to continue with the hobby whether or not outside travel is an option -- your work is superb and I always love to see it and the inspiration it provides
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Simon.
DeleteWell thete may not have been a lot painted, but what is,is beautiful done.
ReplyDeleteCheers bud. You're making me blush :>)
DeleteWhile easier said than done, I understand, please try to paint simply for the enjoyment and not for it necessarily being for any purpose beyond that. If at some time in the future you are able to return to gaming, awesome! If not, you have amazing pieces of art that have brought you pleasure and distraction. You are incredibly talented. Thank you for sharing your work and I really hope to see more next Challenge!
ReplyDeleteThose are some very generous words Natasha and I will certainly endeavour to keep going.
DeleteDallas, your stuff is awesome however much you have painted. The hobby should always be just that a hobby please do not feel ashamed of painting just a few figures, I enjoyed everything you have posted very much!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sander. It's the gaming I miss. The socialising, laughs and fun :)
DeleteIt would be difficult to find anything here that surpasses those in terms of quality Darrell - though I'm not sure why I read Trastmara as Taramasalata though!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes withe the anxiety, please remember that in the long struggle, 2 steps forward and 1 backwards is often how it goes but its still progress
Taramasalata LOL. It took me a few months to work out what Pete at TAG meant by Trastmara. A royal dynasty which first ruled in the Crown of Castile. I don't know why but I simply couldn't find it in any research (though I probably read straight over it LOL
DeleteWhat you did achieve Darrell is of an amazing quality. Love your work.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Peter
DeleteI'd just like to add, I really do appreciate the comments left by you all. They have lifted my spirits. A perfect example of how valuable The Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge is. A space where judgement is put aside and replaced by encouragement. Just brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThere is always a reason to paint minis, if they are as beautiful as the ones you have painted here, Darrell! Your blending is very smooth and soft, a joy to see them.
ReplyDeleteThank you Teemu :)
DeleteReally enjoyed your work this year Darrell. Beautiful work as always
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Peter :)
DeleteI completely understand how a setback can take the wind out of your sails. I had much the same happen to me with this challenge.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work, though.
Thanks Robert. To be honest, it wasn't just the pragmatic set back of having the varnishing disaster- it was much more the mental health issues which are not to be trifled with.
