This first entry is going to be solo because I don't think this princess deserves to be lumped in with the riff-raff that will be following.
This is a Games Workshop miniature from the Lord of the Rings line. She's really a fantastic sculpt. I don't know why it took me so long to get to her. I finished her mounted version back in 2009 or 2010.
In this picture she is next to an Uruk-Hai captain, who will, no doubt, soon fall to her blade. After which he'll show up in the next post.
The detail on her is perfect. The artists really captured the face of the model. Sadly she is washed out so you can see the brilliant blending I used to capture her ennui as she heads into what she believes will be her last battle.
In all seriousness, I did spend a lot of time on the face. It saddens me that my poor photography skills are covering up for my poor blending skills.
I really like the green of these capes. It screams "Rohan" to me. This model will see action this evening, but not as the lady Eowyn. She will, instead be standing in for the Cleric Sybil during tonight's D&D game. Still, I expect her to draw first blood. RPGs are more forgiving of newly-painted model syndrome that miniature games are.
Eowyn is most definitely a vision from the movies. You captured her well in color and I can fully envison her advancing upon the Witch King. (cannot be harmed by a blade from mortal man indeed!)
I'm glad you tagged her for Sarah's Choice as smart, capable Eowyn has more grit than most privates I know! ;)
Welcome to the Painting Challenge. Here you will find the fabulous, fevered work of miniature painters from around the world. While participants come from every ethnicity, gender, age and nationality, they have three things in common: they love miniatures, they enjoy a supportive community, and they want to set themselves against the Challenge. This site features the current year's event along with the archives of past Painting Challenges. Enjoy your visit and remember to come back soon.

DeleteNice work on her Aaron. I certainly feel your pain on the photography side of this hobby.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rod. I need to find a good tutorial for using my camera that doesn't bother with the theory. I just can't muster the interest to learn it properly.
DeleteThe sculptor did a cracking job on this mini as you have too sir
ReplyDeleteIan
Cheers Ian.
DeleteNice work Aaron :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Tamsin.
DeleteGreat work Aaron - indeed, an out-of-the-park sculpt from GW (I think the Perrys did it?). Great work.
ReplyDeleteIt is a Perry sculpt. Thank you.
DeleteEvery year I see these lotR figures and wish I was painting them. My plan of painting all the minions as Ring Wraiths has fallen through but it is an idea in my mind.
ReplyDeleteGreat figures very well painted.
The metals are some of the Perry's best work. I'd love to see minion ring wraiths. You must do it.
DeleteGreat work on this figure, the cloak is very effective.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI think I have this figure in my pile and should pull her out. Great work.
ReplyDeleteShe'd be a nice change of pace for you. I'd love to see your vision for her.
DeleteEowyn is awesome - well done, Aaron!
ReplyDeleteThank you Curt.
DeleteVery nice!
ReplyDeleteCheers Ray.
DeleteI've painted a lot of the GW Rohirrim figures, it's my favourite LOTR army, but I don't think I've painted any better than your Eowyn, you did a lovely job with her. The photos are good enough to show how expressive her face is.
ReplyDeleteThank you Padre. I enjoy your painting so that means a lot.
