From Curt - 10mm Warhammer Fantasy Goblins (Fantasy Location) - (500 Points)

For the past few years our local gaming group has been using a fantasy variant of  'To the Strongest' for our 'Old World' of Warhammer games. We've been enjoying a hotly contested map campaign since last spring which is now drawing to its nail-biting conclusion. The hustle-bustle of the campaign has encouraged us to add units to our existing forces, and as a result here we have the Goblins benefitting from this surge in industry on my part.

In our campaign the Goblins are the spoiler force, run by the GM (me) to add a bit of friction to the players' plans. The little blighters invariably get creamed, but its always fun to see them in action.

Any self-respecting Goblin commander knows that he needs hordes of infantry, so here we have two fresh mobs of Night Goblins to bolster the Greenskin line of battle.

The combination of 10mm figures and larger bases allowed me to have a little fun in composing the units. As Night Goblins like to imbibe on trippy mushrooms from time to time (meaning ALL the time), I thought a cluster here and there of narcotic fungi would be apropos.

The next Night Goblin regiment is benefitting from the enthusiastic support of a Snotling Pump Wagon. (If 'support' means getting crushed into red paste by a huge spiked roller.) With friends like these, who needs... Well, nevermind.

So, if one Snotling Pump Wagon is good then a whole unit must be the cat's pyjamas.  Toot! Toot! Parp! Parp!

A battery of Bolt Throwers keen to miss everything they aim at and perhaps hit something they didn't.

Goblin wolf riders doing, you know, wolfy and ridery things.

A horde of hungry Squigs being cajoled and chivied along by their Night Goblin overseers. I had a bit of fun printing squigs in various scales to give the unit more of a unformed look.

And finally, a Goblin commander proudly watching his horde (just before it breaks down into internecine bickering and complete chaos).

As to points, there's lot of these little fellas so I'm going to have to be methodical with my tally (and I'm sure I'll somehow screw it up). Bear with me, Dallas!

Mob with pump wagon:

123 inf = 123 points

1 mounted = 3 points

1 vehicle = 6 points

4 crew = 4 points

Total 136 points

Mob with big Mushrooms

107 inf = 107 points

1 mounted = 3 points

Total 110 points

Squig Mob

98 squigs = 98 points

3 mounted = 9 points

13 shepherds = 13 points

Total 120 points

Wolf Riders

10 mounted = 30 points

Total 30 points

Pump Wagons

4 vehicles = 24 points

16 crew = 16 points

Bolt Throwers

3 guns = 9 points

6 crew = 6 points

Chariots

4 vehicles = 24 points

12 crew = 12 points

Command Stand

2 foot figures = 2 points

I'll also claim the 'Fantasy' library location for it's 20 point bonus.

Grand Total = 500 points

Yeeash, that's probably my largest submission to date. Certainly one for the books for me. Thanks Dallas for letting me squeeze in with your Saturday crew!

Oh, Barks, there are 2 skullz on the Chariot standard and 3 on the one with the Wolf riders. So, 5 total! :)

480 points for the 'Really Little Guys Challenge'.

...and 480 points for the 'Warhammer Fantasy Challenge'!

- Curt

Anything for the Snowlord! The models look super and I love all the small details on the bases - definitely an advantage of using larger "group" bases. The fungi are fun and goblins are always good for a laugh. When I saw that you were posting goblins I had hoped there would be a Snotling Pump Wagon, and there are four! (You know I can never think of Snotling Pump Wagons without thinking fondly of our late friend Kean and his WHFB army). The squig mobs are great too of course, that's a ton of painting - 381 infantry in this post! I'm going to take your word for the scoring as I have trust in the spreadsheet and I was told there would be no math... a real nice points bomb and excellent work my friend!

  1. Thanks Dal. Yeah, I was thinking a lot about Kean and his ridiculous Goblin Pump Wagons. Good memories.

  2. These are fabulous Curt. Who doesn’t love goblins and/or fanatic shroom imbibing green skins. Excellent mob.

  3. That's a really fantastic entry Curt. The night gobbos are just brilliant and I really like the scope the bases give you. Rhys and are starting to dabble in 10mm and your bases are tempting me in the bigger direction.

  6. Very nice minis Curt! I really like the big base effect you have going. The squigs are especially fabulous. Such a riot of colour in a Night Gobbos army. Hope they continue to cause glorious chaos on the field, even if victory is near impossible to achieve 😀

  7. I've been thinking you are a bit quiet, but there was a reason. :) Good job, goblins are always fun and you painted lots of them.

  8. I got to play with these on Friday night and they ate every bit as fantastic up close. They played a “green force” third party role and I was quite happy to let them trample, bounce and clank out of my part of the battlefield so that others could deal with them.

  9. Absolutely love this. The little dioramas are great and the squigs are my favourite. Reminds me of a soft play ball pit….. but with more teef!

  12. Absolutely beautiful work mate. You always seem to pack so much visual interest into your bases with the diorama elements, etc. I'll second Tom, it'd be great to see the whole green horde in one photo if you can manage it.
