Well, at the beginning of the month, I posted five Blood Berets for Warzone Resurrection. I had originally planned to paint all 15 of them in one go, but had to reduce the initial batch to finish just those I needed for the tournament in Hamburg. Which was a wise decision, since I would not have made it. But little did I know how long it would actually take me to finish them. So many things in the real world demanded my attention that it took me over two weeks to do these (the initial batch had taken about three days). Anyway, these minis will now bring the close combat squad to eight troopers and the ranged combat one to seven. Although this is all a bit fluid, since the rules do not demand the whole squad to be armed the same!
To add to the minis I also scratch build nine AT-Mine markers. Each squad (or Blood Beret character) can deploy up to 3 of them and I know myself... if I do not have markers for them, I will forget them! :-/ So this last photo shows all of them (including the five posted earlier) and the AT-Mines.
From Curt:
Very nice Burkhard. I like the camo pattern on their shoulderpads and leggings. I like these models a lot better than the similarly themed Imperial Guard troops from GW - they are more lean and seem better proportioned.
BTW, what did you use for your AT mines? How do the mine rules mechanic work in Warzone ? (Sorry, I'm an unrepentant rules junkie.)
These turned out very well and they look great against that foliage. It can take me two weeks to complete a single figure, so don't feel bad.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words Anne! I guess right now it just immensely bleeps me off that I cannot seem to find the time to paint.
DeleteThat's some nice camo painting. Excellent work as usual.
ReplyDeleteNice painting on the camo Burkhard.
ReplyDeleteThank you both guys! The camo took some time experimenting till I had a colour combination I liked though!
ReplyDeleteReally nice. I second (fourth?) the congrats on the camo.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Delete@ Curt: It is funny, I got a lot of those Imperial Guard comments when I showed the first batch. Which is funny, since Warzones / Mutant Chronicles Blood Berets preceded the Catachans by more than half a decade. Guess this goes to prove, that a copy is never as good as the original! :-P
ReplyDeleteRegarding the AT mines. These are just the mines that come with the Blood Berets. Other factions and units have different types of mines, that obviously work differently as well. But this is how these work. You get three per squad. These are deployed anywhere on the battlefield as long as they are more than 12" away from the enemy. Deployment takes place after all unit that can only only deploy in the deployment zones have set up.
Once a vehicle moves within 5" of a mine, the mine is activated. Then there is a 25% chance of the mine actually going of. If it does the vehicle receives a hit at AVV 10 in a random location. And before you ask... AVV 10 is really good, since it gives most light vehicles only a 0-10% chance to pass their armour tests and even most super heaves will "only" have a 35-45% chance.
Those mines are nasty little blighters then!

DeleteThese are great, excellent work on the eyes

The camo has come out very well a little reminiscent of that used by Colonial Marines in Aliens. But not the same. I like it a lot
ReplyDeleteLovely looking figures, I really like the camo effect you've achieved on them.
ReplyDeleteExcellent work Burkhard :)
ReplyDeleteVery nice work Burkhard! Didn't realize the original ones were that old :) Wouldn't be surprised if GW quite liberally took some inspiration from other companies work though as the style is very much like Catachans
ReplyDeleteThank you again!
ReplyDeleteBTW... it just dawned on me, that there was one photo in there twice, while a mother one was missing. Good thing we can update the posts ourselves!
The camo is so good I didn't even see it the first time through. Seriously. I focused on the faces. Excellent work.
ReplyDeleteThat is great... if I have done so many great details that you can not pick your favorite, then I am really proud!
DeleteSuperb work as always. Your mastery of clean lines and colors makes your figures so distinctive.
