From TamsinP: AHPC XIII RoundUp

Can you spot what's missing? Apart from me.

This year's Challenge for me was all about what became my final entry - the huge space carrot, and the extra bits I painted to go with it. I kept putting it off and only just got it finished in time, mostly because of the silly joke that I should paint it like a carrot which led to the name, which needed a story, which needed figures, which needed a backdrop, which needed home-made decals...

In putting it off, I found myself painting lots of little bits (some left over from AHPC XII, some purchased or 3D printed since), almost all of which were able to be neatly fitted into the different studios. In past years, I haven't done all of the map locations... actually, I didn't do the dungeon or Quadrant maps - just Treasure Island... but this year saw me visit all fifteen studios and take two limo rides; the only locations I didn't visit were the Gift Shop and the Yellow Brick Road.

Apart from the Spirit of Camberwell, the entries I'm most proud of are the two Judge Dredd busts. The black and white one was actually easier to do than the colour one, and not just because it was smaller - thinking how the colours should be shaded and highlighted (and deciding to go with non-metallic metal for the metal bits) on a larger model where there would be more natural shadow than you would get with a 28mm figure took some adjustment.

Despite my reduced final score compared to most years, I'm still very pleased with everything I've got done.

  2. You're missing! :)

Wonderful work all around, Tamsin. It must have been fun to labour towards an epic post like the Space Carrot. It's an amazing piece! Well done!

    1. Thanks! Most of the fun was coming up with the story, and one of the company names. :)

I've updated the caption - there's something apart from me missing.

  3. Space Carrot is one for the history books Tamsin, that is just an amazing project.

And, as ever, you are a consistent supporter of the participants, and we all appreciate your encouragement - even as you set the bar higher...

    Space Carrot...wow...

    1. Cheers! It was a bonkers project to tackle; well, with all the extras it became bonkers - the ship would have been quite reasonable! :)
Leaving nice comments on every entry has always been something I do, and I'll continue in that vein as long as there is an AHPC.

"I remember the year well... 2023 I think it was... some lunatic had 3D printed and built a huge 28mm spaceship model and then painted it up like a carrot as a joke! Those were the days, the stuff of legends!" ;)

  5. The Space Carrot is epic, outstanding work! Really appreciated all of your comments and encouragement throughout the Challenge as well, the Space Carrot might be The Spirit of Camberwell but YOU are the Spirit of the Challenge!

  6. Another excellent challenge Tamsin. Of course once again you have not only done the challenge but also kept the troops entertained and in line whilst also keeping your own sanity. (Although the giant carrot may be evidence otherwise.)

Not sure about the sanity part - you have seen my final entry, haven't you? *lol*

  7. You had a great Challenge, Tamsin, and while the focus is on the huge carrot, I kinda like the space station stuff more. :) And of course the back stories and all the stuff you painted in addition of the huge vegetable.

    1. Thank you! The backdrop was a lot of work for just 10 points, but it does look good. :)

  8. Excellent Challenge, Tamsin. Points are really the least important, your contrtibution as minion is probably the most important. I should admit that being in the Tuesday Terrors team this year helped me achieving my target socring (for the first time in 8 years of participation). Hope to see you around next December

    1. Thank you! I'm happy with my points total - I went into this Challenge knowing that it would be lower than normal because of what I planned to paint. :)

  9. Excellent challenge output Tamsin and I’ll always think of your carrot when I’m passing though Camberwell! Plus those two busts are spot on and a great complementary pair. Thanks again for all your support to us Tuesday folks as well

  12. Well done Tamsin, the carrot might stand out but you've had some cracking entries along the way, very impressive 'on the side' of such a behemoth!
