Baron Eustace of Lowdham and two men at arms from the baron wars range. These three chaps are my first entrance into the Library as new minis that arrived just of late |
I was n’t looking forward to painting Eustance with all that white and tiny yellow crosses but was really happy with how he turned out. Total of 3 cavalry here. |

And to finish off the boxset we have 8 crossbow which are a mix Of armoured and unarmoured |
So for points we have 12 x 28mm cavalry for 120 points 20 x 28mm foot for 100 points AHPC Library entrance Overdues & returns 20pts New acquisition 20pts Total 260 points |

First, welcome back to the Challenge, Kent! It's been a few years since you were last with us, but that certainly hasn't dulled your productivity. What a lovely medieval points bomb! As always, I admire your clean, precise and bright brushwork, especially on the heraldry and livery of these Norman fellows. I'm with you in your estimation of some of Gripping Beast's early sculpts, but as you say they look absolutely terrific when they're all painted up - especially to this quality. Bravo!

Beautiful brushwork there, Ken. I have ABSOLUTELY no idea how you can paint so much so well so quickly.
ReplyDeleteI too have the Gripping Beast Norman Saga starter kit sitting in a box somewhere. I think it’s the combination of all the flash, the need to glue bows into hands and the metal lances that have put me off painting them for so long. Well done on them!
Hey Robert. Thanks heaps, I paint like this every day, bit of a mad man, but I do love it, I actually started a lit more while doing these so roll on the next batch
ReplyDeleteGreat work on the heraldry.
ReplyDeleteCheers Tom Glad you like them, there's more to come in the next post
DeleteWonderful work. Very crisp and bright. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bruce some people like the figures a little more realistic but I like the figures to really stand out on the table.
DeleteThanks, Bruce some people like the figures a little more realistic but I like the figures to really stand out on the table.
DeleteVery impressive. Especially the white on the horse. And some great heraldry on the shields too!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I was of two minds on which way I'd tackle the white it is still one of those colours I need to work on, but I was happy with the bluish base.
DeleteWhat a whopper to start of with! Great horse-painting!
ReplyDeleteCheers mate, I started about 58 horses on the first day so now just need to do the rest and get them posted
DeleteFantastic work Kent
ReplyDeleteThanks Martin glad you like them, hopefully have the next batch up soon.
DeleteSplendid looking medieval points bomb!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks, was sitting there thinking what do I start with and then thought just get the figures I've been putting off on the board first.
DeleteThat heraldry is something else. Even if you didn't like the models to start with, it doesn't show through in the results. Awesome work on these minis.
ReplyDeleteCheers Stuart, I actually find painting the heraldry rather relaxing, the only thing is it slowed my progress down a little
DeleteA lovely white on the Eustace figure. I like the blue bled into it too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Khusru, seems to be the base I use now rather than the brown I was using
DeleteBeautiful work! They are going to look fantastic on the table.
ReplyDeleteCheers, hopefully they will but it won't be on my table as I'm going to put the Normans up for sale at the end of the comp and the other three figures are for a customer.
DeleteStunning work on the heraldry mate. As one who is similarly afflicted the with the desire to hand paint this stuff I am both impressed and sympathetic!
ReplyDeleteCheers Millsy, if I can paint it I'd rather than use transfers, it might not be perfect but I just like the look better.
ReplyDeleteSuperb entry Kent, loving your Baron he is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteCheers
Matt
Thanks heaps, he is my first baron wars mini, I've painted, hope the customer sends me some more
DeleteLovely heraldry!
ReplyDeleteCheers barks, more to come in the next post
DeleteBeautiful work, Kent.
ReplyDeleteCheers Ray, how's things been a while since I've been part of this. I hope all is well with you.
DeleteGreat painting. I especially like the shieldwork
ReplyDeletethanks heaps Peter had to use my magnifying light on some of them
DeleteGreat post - love seeing figures that I have also painted and I have a Gripping Beast Norman army - reminds me must give this army a run-out on the table soon! Cheers Jez
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, I to enjoy seeing what others do with the same figures I've painted, I'm afraid these figures and a good few of the figures I paint will be up on the slave markets for sale at the end. they never stay long.
DeleteLovely looking figs, some great work 👍
ReplyDeletethanks, will have the next batch ready soon the last of the medieval figures and the start of the Naps
DeleteI have also painted many of those GB figures. They do paint up nicely. Also love the heraldry on Eustace.
ReplyDeleteThat's the thing with many figures they don't always look that great until the paintworks done, then you look at them thinking are these the same figures I left in a box for so long.
ReplyDeleteVery clean and crisp - brilliant
ReplyDeleteThank you Jamie
DeleteSo many figures and so very well painted too. Great post!
ReplyDeleteCheers, very kind of you, I hope to post again this week if I can get all the basing completed
ReplyDeleteLovely work. You rendered the heraldry very well.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave, I actually was a bit worried about it as It was for one of my customers, but it turned out much better than I thought.
