Following on from last weeks entry that had the first bits for a winter table here are the next pieces . This time it’s a range of conifer tree bases - about enough to cover over a third of my planned 8x4 table .
The money shot - you all just want to see a King Tiger in the snow |
It’s a BOGOF - here is the JagdTiger . Pity I painted the tanks 4 years ago . |
Following on from last week’s initial winter themed trees this weeks sees a whole forest of conifers .
A pre and post snow. The bases have holes drilled and the trees are hot glued into position |
They have various shaped MDF bases that were sourced through Warbases , some of the larger ones have inserts that can be removed to put troops/ vehicles in as well . Some are designed to fit with others to make a denser forest area.
Snow and Glue. Messy |
They get a base mix of PVA and sand as usual, this is then coloured a darker brown . I then use a layering spray (a thin PVA mix) and cover and then shake over Woodland scenics snow. The end result look pretty good .
Points Size is 24x16 x average 3 inches high so 1152 cubic inches or 5.3 terrain cubes so 106 points .
Back to something different next week and on the 10mm Naps

Well done Dave. Painting terrain is always a drag, but full marks for the image of the iconic heavy panzers deployed in the snow!

The trees look great - where did they come from? Did you have to put the snow on them yourself? Tigers also look really good cruising through. Those are 15mm I take it?
ReplyDeleteThe trees are model railway made by Busch . Yes all the snow is added by glue and shaking the snow over it
DeleteYes the tanks are 15mm Battlefront models
DeleteExcellent winter trees Dave, and yes the Tigers look wonderful in the snow. I confess I would have just grabbed some trees from the Christmas Village sets on boxing week clearance sale, but these look great.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately my local garden centre that sold the Lemax Xmas scene stuff didn't have any of the smaller ones left or they would have been used to bulk out - even though they are sometimes a little too bottle brush obvious for my liking . At least it’s a job that won’t need doing again - pretty sure I have enough for the planned table .
DeleteCool stuff
ReplyDeleteYes , very chilly
DeleteWell done Dave. I’ll make a note of that method should I ever need wintry terrain (assuming I ever leave Judea or the South of France!)
ReplyDeleteCheers
DeleteVery nice and atmospheric!
ReplyDeleteCheers
DeleteWell done Dave. The white stuff is supposed to hit here in the plains tonight and tomorrow. Your snow covered trees will compare nicely. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteCheers
DeleteI look outside and say, yep, those trees of yours look spot-on. Well done Dave! They're lovely.
ReplyDeleteGood to know! We may get some for the next 24 hours here - but it will gone in a flash
DeleteThese are great, I need to a bunch of snowy trees myself so it’s always good to get to see how others do it so you can shamelessly steal the plan!
ReplyDeleteSteal away!
DeleteClassy post Dave, its always good to see how to do it posts
ReplyDeleteCheers
DeleteGreat stuff Dave, now make another 60 and we may be able to cover the table!
ReplyDeleteOnce I have the new buildings sorted and the other odds and sods I will see how much extra space needs filling
