From KyleC - Swans vs Geese - (60pts)

So yeah.. Here is Squirrel entry #6? And a mega squirrel entry if ever there was one. But a bit of back story here..

One of our club mates (back when going to the gaming club was a thing... Remember those times.. Good Times..) had shared this meme with his kids..

And apologies if it offends anyone but it pertains to the models coming up.. Promise 😂

So his kid asked all these questions about the Canadian F**King Goose and why it would be so terrible and killer and after some googling have so many Memes about them.

Now he being a gamers kid he is actually now quite enthralled with the Canadian Goose and has begun to made a ruleset for them! Call is tentatively called Honk (trademark pending, all distribution rights need to go through his mother) and a suitable opponent for the Goose is the English Swan.

Now to where I come in. Being new to 3D printing and overly hyped of having one, and his father knowing this, they asked if I could help source, and print a few for them.

Enter the models..

6 English Swans vs 6 Canadian Geese resized to fit into 28mm scale on 28mm based. 😂

But I couldn't just provide him the prints.. What kind of Canadian would I be if I didn't at least try to paint the Geese myself!!!

Having a late night Google search, a primed airbrush, and sleepy eyes I made a go at them. And I think they came out well enough in the end?

Vs the easier to paint English Swans..

Where I probably spent more time on the bases than them in total! 😂

All in though an easy 60pts (12*5pt models) here. I had considering keeping them ready for the security team, as the Canadian Geese would be excellent guards. More professional than some I reckon 😂

Hope you enjoy these Squirrel endeavour models... Now back to the War of the Roses rank and files..

Come in victim #8. Ahh, a pleasure to see you returning to the fold, Kyle!

Canada Geese and English Swans - two of the most vicious and dangerous birds in existence. That being said, the Australian Emu may be worse - they defeated the Australian Army after all!

60 points added to your tally.

From PeterD The Pit and the Pendulum (the Horror!) (25) points

The blurb for the Pit and the Pendulum says "Something Terrifying" and in my own world I am constantly beset by vicious attack furniture.  As I quietly go about (ok noisily go about as I seem incapable of doing anything quietly) my daily business I run in constant danger of being impaled or bludgeon by seemingly innocent tables, chairs, door knobs, walls, bookcases, cabinets...the list of horrors goes on for ever.  You are not paranoid if the furniture is really out to get me...I swear it's got nothing to do with my own gross motor skills or level of distraction.

I am pretty sure that this is a Reaper Bones Mimic in 28mm.  It has a distinct Harry Potter or Muppet feel and was a lot of fun to paint.  It's also the first time I've ever painted a tongue on a mini.  Assuming that this meets the Terrifying criteria enough this nets me another 5 points for the mini and 20 for the Chamber.

*knock, knock*

"Ahhh, come in Victim #7, errmm, Peter."

Oh, yes, the mimic. I definitely think that counts as terrifying.

25 points it is.

From DrQ: The Ork Pit (95 points)

 WAAAAAAAAGH!!!!

We have come to the Orc Ork Pit, and given how this challenge is going there's no other choice for me here but to paint up some more of my Assault on Black Reach boyz. Fifteen boyz to be exact:

I've watched several speed and batch painting videos on how to paint efficiently the mound of plastic that comprises a 40k army of Orks. They all recommend working in batches of five to ten models. After my earlier batch of five, I decided to deviate from that advice and paint fifteen in one go. But, fifteen was definitely too many; I can see why folx recommend a smaller count.

Regardless, I how have a total of twenty ork boyz completed this challenge—only another ten until I have a full unit (though I'll probably run these with nobz, tankbustas, rokkit launchas, and big shootas in their actual ranks).

As far as points this is 95: 20 for the area challenge and another 75 for the fifteen 28mm figures. From here I'm off to the Guardroom, where I don't plan on painting orks.

Victim #6*...welcome, welcome...

Nice boyz, DrQ! and 95 points it is.

*Alex and Scott don't count as "victims" as I missed them earlier.

From IanS - 15mm Ancient Indian HC (48 points)

Ancient Indian HC (x12 15mm Figures)

Back again so soon, victim #5. My, my, you are a glutton for punishment!

Nice cavalry - that will be 48 points added to your tally.

20 x 15mm foot = 40 points

Back for more, victim #5? *evil grin*

Another fine militia battalion. I do like the blue bonnets. Another 40 points awarded.

From IanS - 15mm Glengarry Militia (40 points)

As usual I am painting for my children and not for myself.  My son 21 is a great WW2 painter but when it comes to more colourful subjects well the best not said.  So his Christmas present was a Napoleonic 15mm army set in the Americas in 1812.  The other army I am doing is an ancient Indian army for my daughter, all three of us are active members of the Farnbough wargaming club in the UK. The club had a review this month in Miniature Wargaming magazine, and I am the large person with glasses and balding sitting down looking perplexed.  I remember that game as my cavalry got surrounded by infantry, not a one off occurrence.

Victim #5...

Nice work on these militia chaps. 40 points coming your way.

Just a quick note - please do include a post title (in your case: From IanS - (scale) Title (points being claimed) and also add some labels to help with searches. I've added them for you this time, but other minions may decide to revert your post to "draft".

From Paul O'G - More Caesarian Romans (95 points)

I've been pushing on with my Caesarian Roman army, adding 2 more units and 3 Command figures: a Centurion, signifier and musician. I've used different shield insignia for this unit to distinguish between units. Plus the Boars on a white background are quite distinctive.

The army thus far, with more to follow:

Thats 19 x 28mm figs for a total of 95 points. I thought I had better post them for Tamsin's consideration before I take up my minioning gauntlet tomorrow :-)

*carves 4th notch on victim tally rod*

Ave, Paul! Nice work on those Romans. And 95 points it is!

From George S - Airfix Afrika "Corpse" - The ressurection (30 points)

      "...It Walks!"

Not only but it fights back too...  I think this gets me out of "The Golem's Haunt" chamber... :)

While painting the previous posted Afrika Korps figures I got this idea when this damaged figure comes to my hand. The arm was broken in an awkward way and instantly remember the chamber that haunted me from the beginning of the challenge!

Just for the record, this is an Airfix 1:32 figure from the Afrika Korps set, resculpted a bit.

So , 10pts for the figure and 20 for the room  = 30pts if I'm correct.

Hope you enjoyed and get inspired!

'Till next time..

Keep Up The Brushes!!

And victim number three walks into my lair!

Nice resculpting of that damaged figure. I could tell from the pose that it was Airfix!

30 points it is for a great job.

From MikeW [ The Golem's Haunt] Mummy Captain (25 Points)

In the spirit of depicting something re-animated, I have plumped for painting one or Reaper Miniature's figures - The Mummy Captain.

I usually show before and after pictures but I'm afraid with the frenzy of Xmas & New Year - I seem to have lost the before picture of this little chap, my apologies.

Completed Mummy Captain figure form Reaper Miniatures

I have had a hankering of doing a skirmish type game using Ancient Egyptian Undead and Early 20th Century Archaeologists for many years now. (Actually since the original Indiana Jones & the Raiders of the Lost Ark film came out in 1981 but I've never done anything about it in the intervening 40 years!).

It gives me an excuse to get some Warlord Games Afrika Korps plus convert some of my favourite Gripping Beast Arab figures to carry modern weaponry, maybe later this challenge?!

So for this figure I mounted it on a British 2p piece and undercoated in white. I then gave the 'Flesh & Bone' areas a coat of mid grey and the 'bandage' areas a coat of Earth colour.

I highlighted the grey with light grey and the earth colour with Vallejo's Light Sand. For the Head dress and belt I opted for a patterned blue and sky blue look, to fit in with the only other figure I have done for this Army, some years ago. All Trimmed with Gold and washed with blue ink.

Weapons were painted Gold, with Silver / Steel edges to give a highlight and then washed in Dark Brown ink to give an aged feel.

From the Left Side, showing Weapon Blade Edge

I washed the grey areas with a diluted Dark Tone and the Bandage areas with diluted Mid Brown ink, before applying highlight colours again.

The base was painted an appropriate Sand colour and highlighted, dried grass tufts and sand added to taste.

From TomG - An Epic Climax and Something's Hatching!!! — (145 points)

All good things must come to an end, and for me that is completing my first set of Warlord Games scale ACW Confederates.

They've been a joy to paint, and I am looking forward to when the product is fully released. Although I appreciate the controversy they have caused, I fortunately had nothing between 28mm and 6mm for ACW, and so was able to go all in and preorder a fair amount.

Each stand is 20 figures produced in rows of 10 figures sculpted together, I presume, to offer a closed ranks feel. By the end of painting them I had really sped up the process without sacrificing much in the way of detail.

And with that, the family photo is complete. 100 men all ranked up ready to defend the South, or at least the South end of the gaming table.

Next up I continue my adventures in to the Chambers of Challenge, this time delving down to level 2, starting with the Hatchery.

This little number is from Mantic Games as part of their Vanguard game, namely a scenario objective called, The Dragons Egg. It's a fun scenario where, once you have captured the egg you have to contend with, not only your opponent, but also an angry mummy dragon trying to burn you to death!

I added a 28mm model to show the size of the egg, which was a nice little painting project, that neatly fitted between finishing the ACW guys and moving on to my next planned project for AHPC-XI.

Points were scored as follows -

60 x "15mm" infantry = 120pts
1 x 28mm infantry sized challenge entry = 25pts

Total = 145pts

My, my, my! My first victim of AHPC XI...*evil grin*

You've done a great job on those 13.5mm strips. I must confess to being a little bit confused by Warlord's thinking behind the 100-figure regiments given that their stated intention is to allow people to play out epic ACW battles - it seems to me that you could barely get a division a side on a standard 6x4 table, although the long, thin lines of infantry does look better than 24 x28mm figures.

I do like that "egg" as well. Cracking stuff and 145 points it is.

Terrifically Tamsin Tuesday

"Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen...oh, and Ray. Welcome to Snowlord Airways flight AHPC-XI out of Challenge, Blogland. I see that the passenger compartment is filling up quite nicely, with 59 of our expected 90 passengers aboard."

"As we have several new passengers, I should introduce myself. My name is Tamsin, and I am your terrifically British, frightfully fantastic, seriously sarcastic Senior Flight Attendant."

"We are currently cruising at 12,630 points, with a target altitude of 69.600 points. It does look as though someone has been cracking the whip...no, not me - mine is still in my suitcase...errmm, that's quite enough of that *blush*."

"I would tell you when medications will be handed out, but I'm not sure who has replaced Nurse Docherty for this year's flight crew. However, in the meantime, wax crayons (noses and ears for insertion into) may be found in the mesh pocket under your seat. We generally advise against trying to eat them, but I'm sure that someone (I'm looking at you, Ray!) will anyway."

Toodle pip!

From AlexS: Zombie horde (475 pts)

Hello everybody! My name is Alex and I am from Russia. I am very grateful to all of you for continuing to paint miniatures at this strange time. I am also grateful to Kurt personally for the fact that he was able to organize all this. I am pleased to look at the works that appear here and am very glad that many people are stealing better and more.
Today I present to you my little work - a horde of 100 zombies. They are collected from different kits, produced by different manufacturers. I was asked - why do I need 100 zombies? It's great to just put 100 zombies on the table ...

Many thanks again to everyone, your work inspires me.

Points:
90 zombies 28mm 450 points
10 zombie halves 28mm 25 points
total 475 points

I'm terribly sorry for missing your post earlier, Alex, but I've got round to it now!

It's always great to see your submissions, and what a great way to start off your Challenge.

475 points it is, which will put you in joint 6th place (for now).

From ScottM: The Hatchery - Sphinx (26 points)

First step into Level 2 is the Hatchery. After digging through the unpainted pile, I came up with this Sphinx. Unlike the actual Egyptian Sphinx, this one has wings. This is a plastic (Bones) 28mm fig from Reaper Miniatures.

Really not sure why I originally bought this figure. I kind of like Egyptian stuff so that's probably why.

So that should be:
1 - 28mm foot fig + Chamber bonus = 25 points

*It seems that I missed a couple of posts, so I'm "minioning" them now*

Nice work on the Sphinx, Scott. I've given you an extra point for the rock it's on - that seems fair to me.
