So here's a surprise, I have a mixed bag of stuff on offer for this week.
Side rant, why is it that I only spot painting mistakes once I have taken pictures, they seem to escape my notice in the flesh as it were. Also to that point, how is it that with just a unit of 12 figures so many of them wind up missing something, like a black helmet band, or someone is missing some red etc.
Lady Sarah's limousine service [20 points]
Submitted for a ride to the casting couch we have Lisa from The Omega Man. (Crooked Dice figure) Now I have decided to not be coy about my movie tie ins after no one seemed to notice my Madagascar movie and Penguins of Madagascar movie references in an earlier post. Oh well. Lisa here is also part of my post apocalypse squirrel entry, see below.

Casting couch studio time [6 x 28mm foot]
So for this tour we have a meeting between two movie moguls and the director, the camera crew. These are old school Pulp Figures film crew (1st version).
Vampire casting call [6 x 28mm foot]
A general call went out for vampires, many applied few were chosen.
So, a number of Dracula wannabes, one method actor with his own 'prop' and the mysterious Mr Shreck who had a hungry look to him...A mix of figures, the funky based figures are Blue Moon, others are Pulp Figures and I do not remember where the one with the 'prop' came from.
As for the ladies two made it through to the final audition (obviously pre-code days)
High Society jazz band [
Casting call also went out for some musicians When Satchmo showed up with his band, well there was no point looking any further. The figures are by Eureka, a little under formed (mitts for hands) but Louis does look like Louis right down to the handkerchief in his hand.
Lady Sarah's limousine service [20 points]
For this ride I submit the Daughter of Dr Koo (Pulp Figures)
Visit to The Sci-Fi studio [20 points]
Post apocalypse [6 x 28mm foot plus]
Two different views of the end of the world, one by biological warfare, one by Apes! Either of these works fine for the gaming board that I built in last years challenge. All figures are from Crooked Dice. The apes do not entirely blend in with my other apes, but will do. Our two bio hazard warriors need some cowl wearing fanatics to fight but I may just settle for Mantic undead figures ala the Will Smith movie. I always wondered where Mathias and his followers managed to find all those cloaks after the end of the world. I cannot really see these wretched survivors sewing up all those outfits...
TV camera [28mm crew served equipment]
We also have a glimpse of the future, a TV camera from Crooked Dice. I think this came free with some kickstarter project, really not much use to me but it seemed to fit into the general theme of the challenge.
Two units of 20 Italian wars/Empire troops [40 x 28mm foot]
My usual amount of research went into these units, sorry. They are Old Glory figures from their Italian war range but will see service in my Warhammer Empire army. That is a bit of an explanation as to why they are so 'uniform'. I have seen other splendid examples of Italian Wars figures that have a wide variety of clothing styles, colours etc. Not so much here. These were my cheap alternative to the expensive GW figures, they are smaller and often less detailed, but they are only rank and file, and one needs a lot of them for an Empire army. A lot of contrast paint used here. The halberds are molded on and kind of thick and weird looking. The pikes are from a broom.
Palanquin [10 x 28mm foot]
Now here is an odd thing to own and I do not know why I own it or exactly when I got it. It is a model by The Tekumel Project and represents a slaver (I shall use him as a wizard/priest) riding on a Palanquin that is carried by eight (8) Qol. (serpent like creatures) It is on a 60mm by 120mm base.
The court of Dr Koo [8 x 28mm foot plus a gong]
The next palanquin/sedan chair is from Pulp Figures, it is Dr Koo being carried by two loyal servants. Not certain when this will ever be used in a game, but when it does get used it should hopefully make an impression. Also showen are some of Dr Koo's
VSF French Cuirassiers on Mars [12 x 28mm mounted]
Now this week just to be safe, I checked with my various 1889 sources to see how many French Cuirassier units served on Mars😀. Now while Frank Chadwick did not give any numbers, my own thought are that they did send some regular troops to guard the legation and to add extra bulk to their colonial troops. The appearance of these troops certainly impressed the natives.
These are Foundry figures from tier Franco Prussian war range. Apart from the red sand bases there really is nothing to suggest VSF. The French do have distinctly VSF troops and equipment so something normal seemed right. Again a lot of contrast here, trousers, jacket and faces.

What a bomb! Some great work here, Chris, I love the studio crew and the Jazz band!
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteJeepers that's quite a points bomb. I especially like the effect on the dress worn by the Daughter of Mr. Koo.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I was trying to get a silk like quality to her dress.
DeleteHoly cow, Chris, that's a heck of a points bomb! I'm absolutely gobsmacked by your consistent high level of output. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, I am amazed at what this challenge brings out of me, never produce like this outside of this event. Also must confess this one almost done me in.
DeleteHoly crap, what a dump, fabulous stuff all over the place, particularly love the film crew and vampires!
ReplyDeleteCheers
Matt
Oh my god I’m on sensory overload here! It all looks great but it’s too much for my feeble brain. Can I request breaking these posts down into more bite sized pieces.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great leap towards your output from last year! Which studios remain to be visited?
ReplyDeleteRe. palanquins, it might be fun to devise some rules for Pulp Alley, if they don't already exist. Perhaps, the passenger should be able to do two actions of his/her own? And palanquin speed and stability (smoothness of ride) might depend on the number of bearers, while its turning arc would be inversely related?
Re. Mars, have you seen the Perry plastics...?
They certainly will show up in Fantastic Battles or some other fantasy war game.
DeleteWith the ever-popular "passengers" rule, I suppose? (lol)
DeleteVery impressive set of figures!
ReplyDeleteNice work, Chris! An eclectic paint bomb my favorite! So much to appreciate, but I really like the pulp goodies especially the nefarious doctor and all the hangers-on and family entourage
ReplyDeleteA true whopper Chris, well done!
ReplyDeleteGreat paint bomb - I like the Italian OG job!
