From TamsinP: What's Your Point? [Books, Limo, Casting Couch] (81 points)

...It comes right after the Jack!

But I'll get back to that later.

As I am still (at the point of writing this on Tuesday 14th) awaiting my Director's Chair task to be announced by the Show Lord, I've decided to continue visiting studios in the Blue and Green zones. For my first stop, I'm going to backtrack through the Arthouse, Fantasy, Swords & Sandals and Westerns studios to hit up "Books".

Well, graphic novels count as books, don't they? Even when they are collections of episodes from comics?

Phew! Just as well, or I'd be stuffed for this one!

Books Studio - Dirty Frank

When most people consider the Justice Department of Mega City One, they think of the Judges of the Street Division, Psi Division and the Special Judicial Squad. More well read people might even remember the Judges from Med Division, Tek Division, the Public Surveillance Unit and the Accounts Division. However, the most overlooked Judges are those of the Undercover Division - the "Wally Squad".

The "hygienically challenged" Dirty Frank is one of the Wally Squad operating in the Low Life, MC1's biggest cesspit of crime and squalor. To fit in, he adopted the role of a vagrant and has been undercover for so long he has become somewhat deranged, always referring to himself in the third person. He also smells bad. Really, really bad. No, even worse than that...

When it transpired that most of the other Wally Squad in the Low Life were corrupt and working for the mysterious "Big Man", the Justice Department deemed him unfit due to his sanity issues and he was facing The Long Walk until he volunteered to go to Hondo City to bring back one of the others from the team who was thought to be a hostage/prisoner of the Yakuza, only to discover that they are in fact the Big Man.

It's later discovered that Frank had unwittingly been working as a killer for the evil Judge Smiley's Black-Ops Division. Frank has most recently been helping former Chief Judge Hershey (who resigned and then faked her death, although she is incurably ill) to undo some of the damage Smiley had done during her tenure.

"Dirty Frank loves all the children...except for the evil Nazi ones!"

Lady Sarah's Limousine - Aimee Nixon

Aimee Nixon was mentored by Dirty Frank when she was first assigned to the Low Life's Wally Squad. Angry, cynical violent and able to cheat lie detectors, she voluntarily had he left arm amputated and replaced with a robotic prosthetic as part of her cover.

Thought to have been kidnapped by the Yakuza, when Frank went on the rescue mission he discovered that she was in fact "the Big Man". He brought her back to MC1 where she avoided being sentenced to the mandatory sentence of 20 years on Titan by cutting a deal to tell the Justice Department everything she knew about the Low Life and Yakuza crime networks.

However, after Chaos Day she was sent to Titan where she staged a rebellion. That was put down by Judge Dredd and she was believed dead on the icy moon Enceladus, but had in fact mutated into an ice entity.

She was finally killed when she attacked MC1.

Casting Couch - Jack Point, The Simping Detective

I did say I'd get back to it later.

The Casting Couch, where stars are born. To be fair, any of the three characters I'm presenting today could warrant being the main focus of a film or TV series, but I needed Aimee for the limo ride and they haven't succeeded with smellovision yet which rules out Frank. That just leaves Jack Point, the Simping Detective.

Jack isn't part of the Low Life team; he operates in Sector 13, "Angeltown".

Written by Simon Spurrier with art by Fraser Irving, Jack Points stories combine a reduced frame count with separate text blocks of noir monologue.

Jack's cover is that he is a disgraced ex-Judge, dismissed for excessive violence during an arrest (the perp died). He apparently works as a private eye and dresses as a "simp" to fit in with the craziness of the population - the button hole, red nose and shoes all conceal weapons. Being undercover allows him to indulge in non-Judicial behaviour such as drinking liquor and indulging in romantic liaisons (even if they are only in his heart and mind).

Jack often finds himself working alongside another PI named Galen DeMarco...

Jack definitely admires her talents...

Alongside all of his undercover work, Jack also has to deal with four major problems: his entanglement with The Boss; the malicious intentions of his Sector Chief, the corrupt Judge Daveez; the occasionally helpful interventions of criminal Miss Anne Thrope, a lady whose talents he admires but who may have bad intentions for him;

... and the attentions of SJS Judge Kovacs

He's promised to be a good boy, but...

Oh, I forgot to mention that he has a pet alien Raptaur who acts as his bodyguard. Well, he was on his second the last time I looked - the other one had been killed by Miss Anne Thrope as part of a scheme being run by a mysterious criminal kingpin.

So, what do you think of that pitch? Good for a series of films or a TV series?

In case you're wondering why they are on 40mm acrylic bases, that is a temporary measure for the photos - I've run out of 25mm ones (more ordered, but they haven't arrived yet).

These figures are all from the Judge Dredd range by Warlord Games. They are 35mm, which has been scored as 40mm in the past.

For Scoring

3 x 40mm foot @ 7 = 21 points
3 x studio @ 20 = 60 points

Total = 81 points

Friday Minion: Hi again Tamsin, good to see you rattling through some more Judge Dredd characters here. And might I saw, I think these are some of your best brushwork. The colour choices of Jack Point, and well I think I can smell Dirty Frank from here. Nice work!

    1. Thanks! They were fun to paint - my big hope is that Warlord will release some of the other Wally Squad characters at some point as there are several others in the Low Life team that deserve an outing.

  7. An absolute awesome lot of figures, the colourschemes work so well together and the care you have taken in composing the post itself with cartoons is inspired!

    1. Cheers! I wish I had electronic copies of the Low Life stories, so that I could have included a few frames from them for Frank and Aimee. :)

  8. All three are wonderfully painted, and boy have I missed a lot of shennanigans in MC1 since the 90s! I am glad smellovision is not a thing, but I like dirty frank a lot from the stuffed animal necklace to the mismatched socks with sandals! Brilliant brushwork!
