From RoyW - 15mm Moderns, Rebel Insurgents & Toyota Pickup Truck (14 Points)

Continuing on from my post in the first week of the Challenge, here's some of the models I'm painting up to face off against the soldiers from my earlier post.

They're 15mm Peter Pig miniatures, from their Range 17 "AK-47 Republic" collection. Although all of these miniatures have actually been modified via head-swaps from the Range 6 "Heads and Odds", using the Tuareg heads. The barrels are from the Old West range / Terrain collection.

For the sake of completion I'll mention that the bases are by Pendraken Miniatures / Minibits (the same family owns both companies) and are either 25mm circular MDF or 60mm x 30mm rectangular MDF .

From Curt:
Great work Roy! It's good to see the OPFOR to the regular forces that you showed us in your debut post. Again, very nice and clean paintwork and basing. Are you going to have a DShK or recoilless rifle to swap into the back of that 'technical'?   A very interesting (and topical) project.

  1. Interesting you did a good job building these I can't tell they have been head swapped. I can't help but notice that they do seem to be very clean insurgents but I suppose all insurgents start off clean.

    1. @Adam Carriere: Cleanliness is next to Godliness, as they say :)

To be honest, I'd struggle with trying to weather / mucky / distress the paintjob. This being something I'd have to practice upon before using.

  2. Nice one Roy. I live your clean style and your basing really sets them off.

    1. @Michael Mills: Thanks.

The clean style and the basing are actually far from my norm, though are perhaps better than my usual methods.

I've got to admit that these are the first I've painted (pre-WW2 period) and I'm enjoying the freedom of colours and choice.

  4. @Curt: Thank you.

No, in the case of this vehicle it's use is to represent a civilian (Green Force) soft skin that is parked up, though offering a mode of transport should Blue or Red Force decide to use it.

Next: 8 more 15mm Moderns. A 1/600-scale ship. Some 28mm Pulp and then Old West for my blog game.

Only 8 more infantry figures to paint for this collection (at the minute), though Vapnartak may see a show order being made for more.

  7. Great stuff Roy - as has been said above, clean and crisp painting set off by some very tidy basing. I like the way that the forces are steadily building and am looking forward to the next entry.

    1. @Peter: Cheers for the kind words.

Only 8 more 'rebel' miniatures to add to this collection (for now), as I want to play some games before I commit anymore cash to the project.

  8. I am really enjoying your moderns! I'm brand new to the 15mm scene. I'm slowly building a Firefly sorta SciFi theme as I'd like some moderns but its a little close to home.
    Good job with these though!

I'm also a (relatively) new convert to 15mils, and am tentatively learning how to paint the smaller scale. As I said on your last post, I'd never painted vehicles before, the above being my first one. As the Toyota is painted parked up, I refrained from highlighting the windows any further, but should I buy some squad vehicles (which will be occupied) I'll be copying the method you used on your Humvees.

  10. Well done Roy. Peter Pig combines some of the best 15mm figures out there with one of the worst web sites ever conceived :) These look marvellous - great job.
