From MarkE: Romans and a Lady for Sarah's choice (45 points)

Squeaking  in under the deadline and before running out the door for another fun filled night at work, I present my last couple of submissions for the challenge.

A base of 25mm Old Glory Romans and a 28mm Dark Sword Miniature.

These Romans continue a project I started way back in the '90's  Here they are beside a base I completed somewhere before the century turned: New work on the left, old stuff to the right.

I had actually forgotten about this project until I started scouting out my lead mountain for the challenge.  If I recall correctly I was basing them for dual use for the old Chipco Fantasy rules and Classical Hack.  So a real blast from the past.  I've got at least 1.5 more bags of these to clean up, prime and paint so it will be Romans for a while on the bench.  It will help be get more of my brush skills back before moving onto some Perry Napoleonic that have been hanging around getting dusty for at least 10 years.

Last but certainly not least for this year's challenge is my submission to Lady Sarah.  She's a 28mm Dark Sword mini from their Elmore line that I purchased for the first time I entered the Challenge back in 2012.  Life intervened at that point and I failed to get one entry in.  I had to complete at least one mini from that failed effort.

I've always loved the artwork from that classic era of TSR.  I grew up with posters from Elmore, Easley, and the rest of that studio on my walls, and their evocative art fueled many a weekend D&D session with my high school friends. She was going to be my submission for the Toys theme round but I didn't manage to get her done by that deadline.

I'll be making my Curtgeld contribution to Doctors' without Borders.  I've worked with several physicians who donated their time to that organization over the years and they truly do great work.

Points:

8 x 25mm Romans @ 5 pts  = 40 points

1 x 28mm Lady      @ 5 pts =    5 points

                                            total = 45 points

It brings me to 229 for the challenge so a bit short of my 300 goal.  

Well it's off to work.  Unfortunately my night shifts don't afford me time to chip away on my hobby like (I think it was) Ray's epic nightshift challenge year.

A fabulous final entry Mark! Those venerable Old Glory Romans look the business (and the mentions of Chipco rules takes me back!). That being said, the female dancer takes the cake here. Wow, what a lovely job you did on her. Well done Mark. Also, thank you for the donation to Doctors' Without Borders - a very worthy organization doing important work.

From MarkE: Do miniatures get the munchies? 28mm Vending machines (10 pts)

 Ever wonder when we aren't around if our mini's do a "Night at the Museum" and need a snack?  If they don't these machines will at least provide some cover on the tabletop.

I finally put a brush to these.  I have no idea of the manufacturer, I think I picked them out of a bargain bin at Cold Wars or Historicon at least 15 years ago, maybe 20.  They sat languishing on the shelf so long I had to wash the dust off before I could get them primed.  So from deep in the need to  paint mountain here's a pair of vending machines in 28mm.

Hopefully I don't start finding miniature Cheetos fingerprints on my figs!

I scored these as 25mm figures since they are roughly man sized for that scale.  Please correct if I'm in error.

So 2 @ points each = 10 points.

Mark, as the level of painting required to get these nice vending machines done is quite substantial I will go along with your scoring of 2 x 28mm figures equals 10 points. Nicely done!

 We had some balls, now we add orcs, orcs with RED highlights because.....Da go fasta!

I continued with using mainly paints from the Armory Speedpaint line.  They are different to work with much more like using inks or washes than paints in most ways.  One coat coverage for all these models, so I can't complain.  I ended up not liking the coverage of speedpaint for the bases.  I was looking for that '80's classic GW base look so went with AK Alga Green since I found my prized 20+ year old pot of Goblin Green had finally succumbed to time and dried up.

Wow Mark, what a blast from the past! Those old figures have really benefitted from your love and care with the paintbrush for sure. I do like how the skin tones really resemble the old Goblin Green, I have some of those really old pots somewhere too but  fear they will have dried up as well as yours. Anyway a great addition to the Grid Iron!

From MarkE: 28mm Bloodbowl Balls (4pts)

 Here's my kickoff attempt for the challenge.  Finally on the board!  

A set of 4 balls for Bloodbowl. Hoped to have a team to go with these but that will have to wait until next week, I needed to get something on the board before the deadline, so I thought I'd give these a quick boot and put a (very) few points up.

 I'll be working on the challenge with only stuff in my "lead" mountain.  I've got (like most gamers) a pile of projects that got purchased and have sat, patiently waiting the tender caress of a brush for years to um, err, well decades.  I don't know how long a Bloodbowl box set has been around in the stack but its been dusted off and gets first attention.  I anticipate that all the Bloodbowl mini's are going to be painted with the  Army Painter Speedpaint line.  I'm interested in giving it a try out and see if I like it as a "get it on table" for line troops and similar models where quantity is greater than quality.

                (I each one is roughly the size of a 10mm fig)

Hoi Mark, this might be a bit of an open door (as we say in Dutch) but the most important part in any ballgame is of course ... the ball itself! You have done an amazing job on the leather-effects of these. The Challenge is thé place to be in order to get rid of the lead-pile of shame and  with these  you have made  a great kick-off in joining the Challenge, welcome indeed!
