From RichardM - More Portuguese 6mm Napoleonic Line Infantry and some Cavalry (192 points)

Continuing with my 6mm Peninsula Napoleonic theme, this week I have more Portuguese Line Infantry Battalions and some Portuguese cavalry.  As before, all of these figures are Adler Miniatures Napoleonics.

But before they are presented for your 'squinting' view - some good news.

Keen readers of my posts will recall last week that I thought I had painted two more Cacadore Battalions than I had to photo and present - I believed I was missing the 8th and 9th Battalions.

Well imagine my joy (and relief for my mental faculties) this morning as I was clearing the chaos on my desk to photograph this week's production when the fugitives appeared - albeit on their painting sticks and not ready for presentation.  Even more surprise when I saw from their painting sticks that they are actually the 11th and 12th Battalions and not the 8th and 9th (for those curious, I can now safely say the 8th and 9th will not be appearing).

On to this week's work.  First up are the new 12 Line Battalions - in this case two battalions each from the 4th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 17th and 18th Regiments.

Now some aerial shots of them.  I have included these photos to illustrate the 'mass' effect of 6mm figures.  A number of you who commented on last week's work noted that this was where 6mm came into their prime.  I am looking forward to when the 40-odd Portuguese battalions are laid out like this in a few weeks time.

On the (my) verdant field of Salamanca with the Grand Arapile in the background

Then I've done the 1st and the 10th Portuguese Line Cavalry Regiments - each of 4 squadrons of 6 figures.

And finally, the missing Cacadores that will be ready for next week.  Despite their protests at being photographed when not ready, I include a photo purely to ensure their embarrassment at not being present at last week's muster.   These will be based and included in next week's production stats.

I still have another 14 Portuguese Line Battalions to paint.  However, in an attempt to introduce some variety into these posts, next week I will mix things up a bit.  There'll still be some Portuguese but also some of the Swiss Battalions that the French took with them into Spain.

In a further attempt for variety - I dug into the basement to find the bag containing the figures for Napoleon's German / Confederation of the Rhine Division that he sent to the Peninsula as well as a few Total Battle Miniatures buildings to paint over the coming weeks.  Hard to think - but there are over 800 figures in that bag - a little depressing to consider that is 'only' 400 points :)

Points

12 Line Battalions each of 24 figs - 288 figures at 0.5 points = 144
2 Cavalry Regiments each of 24 figures - 48 figures at 1 point = 48
Total = 192 points

From Millsy:

LOL! I can only imagine the relief when you located your AWOL battalions mate. The wee buggers are clearly quite adept at hiding which is no surprise given their light infantry background. I remember you talking about the missing troops and there was genuine bewilderment in your tone.

Lovely brushwork once again. The photos on the units en masse really highlights the benefit of smaller scales. This looks like a proper Napoleonic battle line, not half a dozen blokes taking a flag for a walk.

Great stuff and 192 points well earned.

Cheers,
Millsy

From KentG - 28m Barons wars French & peasants (pts280)

This week I decided to start my wargames Atlantic
Barons wars starter box, I have painted a heap of these figures
for the company and was lucky enough to have this sent to me
by Andy hobday end of last year. There's a few more foot knights
to do and the market stalls, but I almost completed it in a weeks
which was a bit crazy, probably would have
if I hadn't done the two extra mounted knights

I really like these figures which is why I bought the mounted
knights and Sergeants for Christmas they are a pleasure to paint

I painted these up as French from the first Barons wars French invasion
the blue knight is Etiene de Sancerre the red knight is Thomas de
Coucy and the foot knight is Michel De Harnes
and the white knight is Hughes de Miraumout.

The banner here I quickly made at the last moment when I realized
I had used it on the knight above

I added a few heads from their dark age Irish set
just for fun I also did a bit of cutting and chopping of a few figures
I also changed a few bits from the mounted set

I already have a couple of boxes of peasants but I made them all
archers so thought I better add to the rabble,
might even still have another box in the cupboard,
once again swapped a few heads out

I love painting mounted figures always have and this
figure even though simple is one of my favorite things painted this week
the silver just pops on the helmet, and the blue finally came together.

This chap scared me I have avoided this pattern for so long
I knew it would be hard and it really was, took me hours to layer
it up, it's not my finest work but when I put him down on the table
and I thought yes it works

Next week back to the Samurai we go

The points

52 28mm foot @ 5pts each 260 pts
2 x 28mm mounted @ 10pts each 20 Pts

Total @280 pts

From Millsy:

Wow, just wow. Another cracking bunch of heraldry mate! I understand now what you meant when you were speaking about the repetitive pattern on that last night. I'm not sure he's repaid your effort in advancing your point total but he's certainly gorgeous!

Everything else is also pretty cool. I particularly like the clean highlights on the blue knight's barding. There's a real sense of motion there.

Well done indeed. 280 points it is!

PS. If I have to add you handle to the labels one more time I'm going to start deducting points! It's almost like you don't want your work found. :-P

Cheers,
Millsy

From GeoffT: Neanderthals (125 points)

Hello Challengers,

I got these beauties for playing ‘Tribal’ by mana press.  They have a supplement called primeval that pits varies early hominid species against each other.  These Neanderthals are from lucid eye I think.  They are 28mm and very nice minis.  There are 25 x 28mm foot for a total of 125 points.

Kind Regards

Geoff T

From Millsy:

These are terrific Geoff and very tempting. I believe these are available from North Star. I keep seeing them and have all sorts of plans go round in my head!

I love what you've done with the bold flesh tones and dry brushing on the furs. I'm sure they'll present a real threat to any mammoths or sabertooths that they come across.

125 bones added to your total mate.

Cheers,
Millsy

From Sarah - First Post AHPC Challenge XVI: “The Pirate and The Gentleman” (15 Points)

Hello Everybody!

Whew!

Curt was getting a bit concerned that I wouldn’t be able to post before the cut-off date, but I prevailed and I present to you The Pirate and The Gentleman, an excellent figure I found on MyMiniFactory.

These fine, handsome dancers are to be bystanders for future games of Carnavale. (Or really an excuse for me to paint random, fanciful figures).

The Pirate and The Gentleman are perhaps showing off the latest & most shocking dance moves from the brothels of Buenos Aires - The Tango! Hey, whatever happens in Venice, stays in Venice.

Last Challenge, I painted Heathcliffe & Cathy, a ‘joined pair’ and found them difficult and this pair was similarly tricky to paint.

Truthfully, I did lose some “inspiration or mojo” for these fellows - not least because I painted the figures twice! There was an accident on the painting table resulting in the breakage and loss of limbs. Kindly, Curt reprinted the figure in a slightly larger scale. I think the larger scale suits the athleticism of the two gents.

Overall, I am quite happy with the results and I hope will add some colourful character to Curt’s gaming table.

Curt says these are essentially 40mm. So that's 7 points each, I believe, making the couple 14 points together!

I’m happy to be part of Greg’s Thursday Team and I hope you all like me small contributions to this years Challenge.

Sunrise in the neighbourhood & afternoon walk thru the park.

Hello Sarah, and a very warm Challenge welcome to you! Great to have you back with us in the AHPC once more, and these dancing fellows are a fine entry. A fine tango indeed! Whatever gaming table they join, they will make for fine accent pieces. The colours on the pirate's leather pants are particularly intriguing, and the expression on his face hilarious. Is this a dance? A trap or a con? Why not all three?

Reading about the mishaps along the path of this particular project, I felt a pang of sympathy, and have no doubt other Challengers will feel the same. We've all had a figure drop, and do so at the wrong time (is there ever a "right" time for that?). Just as whatever happens, stays in Venice, it seems that whatever broken part of a miniature falls into the carpet, stays in the carpet forever...good on you for sticking with this!

I must say the photos of the winter sun give me a pang of nostalgia for the lovely Canadian prairies...stay warm, enjoy a coffee and keep those brushes going!

I have rounded this up to 15 points, just to account for how tricky it can be to paint a paired miniature like this - even without dropping it.

From RhysH - 28mm and 32mm Fantasy and Sci-Fi (30 points)

This week Rhys has models for four different games. Some are 28mm and some are 32mm and the Crisis Protocol is even bigger than that.

First up is a Bones dragon that my dad gave me. It doesn't stand up well.

I love all dragons but this one is another black dragon.

This is Bucky, the Winter Soldier.

The bases for Crisis Protocol are really big.

These are the customizable Jedi for Star Wars Legion

The double bladed lightsaber is the best in game. The third option is to have two lightsabers.

Last up is Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth. This is the new plastic model and is GREAT.

The layered way that GW builds models now is hard to put together but they look really good.

Imrahil is one of my favorite characters so I'm really excited about this new model.

That's 4 x 28-32mm models for five points each = 20 pts

1 x 28mm monster = 10pts (?)

Hi Rhys - thank you for another varied submission, touching on so many different areas and themes! I too love Dol Amroth from Tolkein's setting, and I had not realized there are new plastic figures available for them. Your description of GW's approach to newer plastic figures is apt - they are indeed more "layered". I see this as a side-effect of using software for designs, but it also has upsides - the figures can be quite beautiful.

Imrahil is my favourite here, ready to face the evil forces from the East!

I think 10 points for the Dragon is fine with me - that makes for 30 points for you.
