KentG 28mm feudal Japanese Terrian (45pts)

I decided to d a few more Terrain paces for my feudal Japanese project
Really pleased with how the buildings are painting up, they are really challenging
To get the brush in to paint the panels, but well worth the time
Size 130x 150 x 100

This next one look great on the table but the printing wasn’t as good
Not as smooth so a lot harder to paint and I don’t think photographed
As well, I did want it to look a little older which is why I changed the roof
With some extra colors

Size 180 x 165 x 120

I spent a wee while getting some glue to look like water coming out of the fountain
Not as easy to see, but it really looks cool, I had my family
Come round last night and they all had the same reaction to the water effect
Which was what I was looking for.

This wee piece is one of my favorites
I used gloss varnish for the water effect this time
Size 40 round

This is a pretty simple terrain piece which could be in the town square
Size 80 round 90 high

Wow, more great terrain and painting Kent!  Keep them coming!

Having just painted an FDM printed building last week, it has renewed my hatred of the medium, and I am amazed at the very nice look you are getting from your paint jobs here.  I despise the rough nature of them, but you seem to get a very nice look to yours, well done!

These two buildings are great, they appear both bigger and more detailed than the last batch, so I am going to score 20 points each for you, and add another 5 points for the simple little gazebo and pond, both are very nice.

I am getting very jealous of your terrain collection and wished we lived closer to be able to play on the same table, great work!

From GHorwood - 15mm Russian and Austrian Napoleonic. 272pts

A very quick post this week as I am still trying to finish rebasing a few armies that I started before the challenge began. I had thought I had finished painting my Russian and Austrian Napoleonic armies last month, but I found these so thought I better get them done.

Napoleonic Austrian

Half a Regiment of Austrian Cuirassiers (which means at some point I will have to purchase the other half!!!). Why do Austrian units have to be so large? 24 AB figures (96 pts)

Russian Napoleonic

2/3 of a Russian Artillery Battery. Again AB Miniatures. (48 pts)

Russian Cuirassier Regiment

30 AB Figures (120 pts)

Finally the Command group for my Guard Cossacks (8 pts)

That's it. Sorry for the poor quality of the photos. The figures do look better in real life honest.

Total points 272pts.

From DaveD . I always like seeing Naps at volume and these will do me nicely . I can hear the thunder of hooves with that ranked up cavalry - that’s a pile of extra points for you !

AndrewG - Scatter Terrain part 2 (25 points)

This week I got another small batch of scatter terrain done. These were mainly just things that had been sitting around the workbench for some time in various stages of completion, so I was happy to finally push them along.

I always try and max out my materials, so the two kidney shaped pieces were built from scrap bits laying around from other projects. All the wood came from the backyard, the axe and arrows were leftovers from various medieval kits, and the red bird sitting at the top the dead tree is an old Warhammer extra bit from the bits box.

The barrels and the well were cheap rubbery plastic pieces that came out of a medieval scenery kit I bought ‘back in the day’ before the newer plastic kits arrived. As such they had heavy mold lines and didn’t have the best detail overall, so I tried to hide what I could and make them a bit more interesting. As for the tables, these are a mix of plastic and metals, again some old extras just kicking around waiting to be painted up.

For the last piece, I had the wheelbarrow but wasn’t sure what to do with it, until I remembered that I had bought a pack of the Perry Miniatures metal Wars of the Roses period labourers. Thus this little piece will add some interest to my WoTR battles, with this gent hanging in the back of the field looking across and wondering what all the Ruckus is about.

That’ll likely be it for scatter terrain for the time being, I have some larger buildings I need to finish off so they will be the subject of my next terrain posts. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

--------------

Another great little terrain submission Andrew.  While small these little bits add a ton to a battlefield and are a great idea for people to copy and add to their own. These however had a lot less painting and work than the last batch of scatter terrain, but are still lovely. I am going to award points as follows, 15 points for the scatter terrain bases, 5 points for the tables, and 5 points for the painted figure for a total of 25 points.  Great work and thanks for the submission!

From Ians, 10mm Riders of Rohan (320 pts)

Hi For my third post of the challenge its te first contingent of my Rohan army. All the figures are from the ROK company initially i brought a cavalry and infantry unit, loved the figures and when i went back to order more they had gone from the website. On contacting them it turned out that they had decided to sell the stl files instead so one horse lords army bundle brought. Coming from Kent where the symbol is a white horse on a red background this army was always going to be my favourite. It is a shame that the films give the releive of helms deep to Eomer when it should have Erkenbrand marshal of the Westfold who has a red shield with a white horse. First up is three units of infantry one of which has red shields for the Westfold. Men of the west fold
Next up are two archer units
The cavalry arm of this arm will be represented by three type of cavalry of which two are in this post. Outriders - all archers. Two units of these
Heavy Cavalry - Riders of Rohan. three units one of which is from the west fold Again first up men of the westfold
Non West fold
Rohan Contigent 1
Points Infantry - 108 figures 1 pt each - 108pts. Archers - 48 figures 1 pt each - 48pts. Outriders - 18 figures 3 pts each - 54pts Heavy Cavalry - 36 figures 3 pts each - 108pts. Total points - 318

From DaveD . Ian that’s another great pile of painting goodness . The mass effect on the last shot is really starting to show the benefit of the scale alright - let’s call it 320. I look forward to seeing yet more!

From AdamW: In the jungle, the mighty jungle......15mm Jangalis 370 pointed.

This weeks entry is ten units of Jangalis for my Dunsterforce campaign.

I'd be surprised if many of you have heard of the Jangalis. They were the fighters of the 'Jangal (Forest or Jungle) movement'.  This was a movement setup against the monarchist central government of the Sublime State of Iran in Gilan and lasted from 1915 to 1921.

In October 1915, Mirza Kuchik Khan, an experienced activist in the pro-democracy and nationalist Constitutional Revolution, launched the Jangal movement, which was broadly religiously Shia Muslim, in the forests of Gilan, demanding autonomous status for the province, an end to central government corruption, an end to foreign interference in affairs of local peoples, and land reform.

The British didn't get on to well with them and after a failed assassination attempt on Mirza, they were not to keen to allow the British, in the form of Dunsterforce, to pass through Gilan on their expedition.

I have gathered the figures from a variety of sources, to represent the varied dress of the Persian/Trans-caucas people.  There is little information available, but I have gone for a non-uniformed force with a variety of dress and headgear.

The majority of figures are Blue Moon 15mm from their North West Frontier range, mixed in with some Peter pig Russian civil war figures and the odd minifig.  There is a pack of Blue Moon Cossack Guards, who stand head and shoulders above the rest.

My first pic is a cautionary tale. When picking up a can of varnish, make sure it is varnish and not white undercoat.  I know I have been inspired with all the winter units being posted, but I wasn't really wanting to start an army.

After much swearing and repainting, here they are all ready for action. I tried to get a few close ups as well as the usual bulk pics.

Become we come to the points, I wanted to share a tip that may help anyone new to painting an irregular force to get a nice variety in colours.

I always stick 6 figures to a wooden tongue depressor stick. Traditionally the way to paint a mixed force was to mount the figures of the same pose together and then paint every fifth or so jacket with a colour throughout the army. Then repeat with another colour and so on.
Recently I have found it quicker to mix up the figures on a stick so they are all different poses or clothing etc. (depending how many different figures you have).

The idea is to then paint all the figures on one stick the same colour scheme ie the same colour jacket, another colour for the trousers etc. There  may be some added variance if they have a colourful hat, or are in shirt rather than jacket, but in general they are all dressed in the same coloured clothes.

This process is repeated across the army with how many colour schemes you fancy, for example I think I used eight different jacket colours and six different trousers. Combine that with hat colours and great variance is made very easily.

When they are all painted, mix the figures up again and you are done . I have found this a  farquicker method and I've ended up with  no two figures the same.

Points
180 15mm figures @2pts = 360 pts

One squirrel.

That should me through my target :)

Not sure I'll have the next lot of figures ready for next week as I'm away this weekend, but I will try!

From DaveD. Oh these are right up my Back of Beyond street alright . Nice to see a decent mass of them too .i think your process for painting them and mixing it work is a great idea -its worked well . 370 it is . Indeed that is you through your target - time to double I say !

From Curt - Napoleonic French Command Stands (30 Points)

Hi Everyone!

Just another small post from me to keep the counter ticking along. First, thanks Dave for allowing me to join in with your Sunday crew, you often do historical-themed stuff, so I thought this entry was apropos under your supervision.

My 'first love' for historical miniatures was Napoleonics. I often call it 'The Beautiful Game' due to the period's gorgeous uniforms, larger-than-life personalities, and rich history. In addition to collecting it in 2mm, 3mm and 15mm (I know, it's a sickness, really), over the years I've also slowly accrued a reasonable 28mm collection, mainly built around the Peninsular War and Hundred Days Campaign. One gap that has been bothering me (as much as the lack of toy soldiers can bother anyone, but I think I'm safe with this audience) was that I didn't have a French heavy cavalry commander to lead my cuirassiers and carabiniers, and I was also needing another messenger/brigade commander to fill that role. This being the case, I thought this Challenge would be the one where I'd rectify these gross oversights in my collection!

So, here is a two-figure command stand of a French cavalry commander stuffed into a cuirass, along with his gaudy trumpeter to annoy all those near and far. Both models are from Perry Miniatures, with the commander and his mount being metal figures, while the trumpeter and his brave nag are from their plastic range.

The Imperial orderly is a Perry one-piece metal casting which I quite enjoyed working on, being I didn't have to mess with pinning/gluing him to his mount and he's mostly blue! Several sources state that these fellows, being favourites of Napoleon, often had a bit more latitude for how they uniformed themselves. As such, I've given this chap a pair of brown, leather reinforced trousers with silver detail. Just understated enough not to get called-out for it by the Boss, but enough bling to make other officers roll their eyes.

These three mounted figures should give me 30 points to add to my tally. They will also provide me with another squirrel for Stuart to pip on my roster.

Thanks for dropping in for a look!

- Curt

From DaveD . Nice to have you pop by on a Sunday . Great to see you deliver a decent bit of history as well. You always need more commanders and it’s nice to have colourful ones as well. Indeed I think a bit of uniform license is allowed , even called for . My personal favourite is the trumpeter here . Good job Snowlord . 30 pts it is .
