AdamC: Ancient Egyptian cavalry 100 points

 We have some more Ancient Egyptians armed as more traditional light cavalry. Note they are on bottle caps as my friend will be mounting them to suit his game. 

These came from the same package as the archers interestingly they were unarmed (possibly a sling but I think it was supposed to be the reins)

So I cut the reins and right hand away from the legs they were attached to, pried the arms away, drilled a hole in the hand then add a wire as a spear/javelin. Finally I found some buckler type shields from my bits box.  With that unarmed scouts are now serviceable light cavalry. 

It was a lot of fiddly labor but well worth the effort.  I painted these up for my friend Arofan who does all my 3D printing and I was happy to do it as unofficial 'payback'.  There was a question about what dynasty my friend is doing, he referred to them as Saitic Egyptians (AKA the 26th Dynasty). They Liked to cosplay as Egyptians from the Good old days of the New and Old Kingdoms. 

There are ten 28mm mounted warriors here adding 100 points to my total.  This may be the last big submission of the challenge but I will probably have a couple of small entities (more 1/2400 ships if I can get some Brush time.

From GrahamB: Greeks and Roman Camels (210 points)

This week's submission has been in the lead pile for a long time.  These are the first Greek Hoplites I have ever painted in over 50 years of wargaming and have come out OK.  They are Old Glory figures that I purchased over 15 years ago when the figures were ridiculously good value, especially with a USD/GBP exchange rate, the Old. Glory army card discount and a stupidly cheap deal on.

Secondly here are some Hinchliffe ancient camels and camel riders.  These can appear as a small Roman unit or even substitute for several other classic army’s that used camels.    

30 Hoplites @ 5 pts = 150 plus 6 mounted @ 10 pts = 60 points.

Very nice to see a Challenger tackle a subject they have been waiting on for a long time. Brings to mind my constant pledges to paint some 28mm Romans. I mean, I'll get to it one of these days...

From AdamC: Ancient Egyptian Horse Archers (100 Points)

 These are Old Glory miniatures a friend asked me to paint.  As he has put his 3D Printer at my disposal I was happy to paint for him. 

As far as I know (and I have a good layman's knowledge) the Ancient Egyptians never used horse archers. These are for a later period  where Horse archers were becoming fairly common in the Ancient Near East. These later era Egyptians liked to Cosplay as New Kingdom Egyptians. 

If I where to use them I would consider them a sort of ancient dragoons.  Archers who would ride to the battlefield (keeping up with the chariots perhaps) then dismounting to fight. 

Historical or not they look cool.  That Egyptian headdress is iconic and looks goods they can be a pain to paint but its worth it. There at 10 mounted 25/28mm scale miniatures for another 100 points that should put me comfortably over my goal!

Sylvain: Another excellent set of miniatures from your painting space. You really nailed the Egyptian palette of colors, one look and you know what ancient nation you are dealing with. I'm glad that you were able to reach your points goal, that's what we are all aiming for. It has been an honor to be your minion; "à la prochaine".

Hello Challengers,

Recently I picked up about 100 ‘pirate’ models, in varying states of disrepair.  Some unpainted, some undercoated, some part painted and some painted.  All of them were heavily chipped and not in any state to game with.  They were in a wide variety of brands, and were historical and fantasy models, with quite a few not really pirate models. It was a big and enticing rescue job.  It has been fun to sift thru, finding napoleonic officers, French revolutionary mob figures and even a ACW figure.  However, some of the figures now are scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as being able to rescue.  I’ve yet to identify the source of all the miniatures, but brands here include Redoubt Enterprises, Old Glory, Eureka and Reaper.

This batch of 17 figures is from that collection.

These four did not have guns, so I am using them for Ghost Archipelago, a skirmish game with pirates that don’t have guns.

This one looked a bit like it was from Peter Pan, so will using it for DnD NPC.

This fellow will be used as a civilian model for Sharp Practice. Could not quite work out if he had an eye patch or not.

The remainder here will be added to my collection for blood and plunder.  Four of these models here and three of those above are reputed to be Anne Bonney or Mary Reed.  Seemed to be quite a lot of female models in the collection, with a dozen or so more barbie doll shaped fantasy pirates I have yet to rescue.

In total, there are 17 x 28mm figures in this batch for 85 points.

Aaarrgghhh! Another wonderful batch of salty sea dogs to brighten up a wet and miserable afternoon at Chez Minion Millsy.

And what a batch! Wonderful, vibrant, saturated colours everywhere and so much variety. The females are probably my favourite as we just need more female miniatures in our games full stop, especially when they are not just there for decoration.
