From HarryV: 28mm WAR ELEPHANTS and commanders (295 Pts)

For my final submission we have the massed war elephants of Carthage!

Lighting was terrible when I took these pictures, so it was hard to really get good shots. Mounted commanders are from aventine miniatures, foot command from victrix hoplites

The elephants are from Victrix and aventine, with the crews from both manufacturers mixed together to try and blend them together and make a cohesive looking elephant brigade.

I guess when I originally ordered these from aventine I forgot to order the Howdahs, so I did end up having to fabricate my own! I used the victrix Howdas as a pattern and constructed them out of a very heavy cardboard.

I had previously painted two war elephants which I rebased and touched up to match this new set, this what the force will look like for gaming. Three units of three elephants strong. I painted the new elephants fairly generically on purpose, with the idea that they could be used for Carthaginians or Ptolemaic elephants.

Thanks so much for putting on the challenge, and those so much to Peter for managing the Tuesday crew. I had great fun participating this year for my first time!
Best, Harry

Sylvain: What an awesome post to finish the Challenge! You did it BIG! The elephants gear is fabulous and their crew are exquisitely painted. I like how you put squished enemies (including a horse) in the path of the elephants. Bravissimo!

From ByronM: Total Battle 6mm Villages (28 points)

I didn't think I was going to get anything else this challenge, due to a surgery I had to have about a month ago, however I have been able to sit at a table for small periods of time the last few days, so got something more done!

I wanted something fairly simple and quick to get done in short periods of time here and there.  So I decided it was time to get these two cute little villages that Curt actually picked up for me from Total Battle Miniatures several years back (I am thinking between 6 and 8 as I know for sure it was in the "Before Times" meaning pre-covid) and have sat since then. These are awesome little 6mm resin buildings that come with a silicon village mat that they slot into, for a great looking little setup.

I was not sure on scoring as they are close in size to a 28mm figure and some are complicated and some are simple.  Easy solution (since I am the terrain guy and wanted to be fair and not score my own) ask my son QuinnM his thoughts.  He thought the same, but that some are simpler than a 28mm figure so suggested 3 points per, which I am fine with and then 2 points per base for a total or 28 points.

These were a blast to paint and have a ton of detail to them, if I could have sat for longer I could have easily doubled the paint time on them as there is so much there to pick out.  For anyone interested in them, check out the company they do 3mm, 6mm, 10mm, 15mm, and 28mm versions of them and they are very nice.  Heck, in the larger scales they even sell pre-painted versions (pricey, but an option).

I should have at least one more entry before the end, but we will see.

====================================

Sylvain: 6mm is my favorite scale so I am totally biased about your submission and totally agree with your proposed scoring. I find the slot in system pretty ingenious, so you can fit in your army just by removing a few buildings. You did a very nice job at painting this tiny village, it totally looks like what you would expect, without distracting the attention from the battle going on a few centimeters away. Brilliant! Bravissimo!

From BrianC: Saxons, A Nun, More bones, Thriller, and More! (130 points)

Well, I will not hit my mark for this season. Bummer! But, I still had a lot of fun! Here we go!

SAXONS! (20)

A Nun with a Gun!

More Mantic Games Undead (3)

Your Crazy Wild West Uncle (3D printed)

Just a Thriller! (Undead Michael Jackson)

===================================

Sylvain:  What a great bunch of characters! I love them all, but the Crazy Wild West Uncle has something "MAGA" to it that I find hilarious. Glad to hear that you had fun at this edition of the Challenge. See you next year!

From Mike W: More 28mm Skaven Plague Monks (55 Points)

As mentioned on Monday here is my follow-up post showing the balance of the GW Plague Monk Unit that I was working on, trying to get it finished by the Challenge Deadline...

The completed batch of 10 x GW Plague Monks

There are 10 x figures in this batch, half of them being 'regular' Plague Monks whilst the other 5 are a little more exotic - being leaders, musicians & Champions etc!

A view from the left of the line...

Again the recipe I used to paint these has been laid out elsewhere in my posts, I wanted to take more time getting the banners just right for these little guys - trying to balance the look an feel in other units in my collection and reflect the rough and ready 'scrawl' that thes rat men might use to daub their banners....

And a slightly different head on view

The 5 x 'Regular' Plague Monks, showing their right hand side

So I still have a few odds and ends left on my workbench, so we'll see what I'm able to get completed for  final post on Friday night (UK tim) hopefully still within challenge deadlines!

And their left hand side, each is armed with two hand weapons

A close-up on the Plague Monk's unit banner

A close-up on another of their banners

And finally their musician and a couple of guys carrying scrolls and bells!

Sylvain: I really like the palette you used for this bunch of giant rats. They look dirty and unkept. They will make a great addition to your army. I will add 5 points for the big banner. Great job! Bravissimo!

From BruceR: More 10mm into the mix, Thanks to all (51 points)

At the end I continue down the road of 10mm.

First, it's been a great challenge, and I've exceeded my goal by a considerable amount.   I again want to thank the minions (salute to Sylvain from the Wednesday crew) with great appreciation to Curt and Sarah.

My first entry for the end is a Forest Dragon Dogs of War hero on griffon.  I had previously painted a metal GW figure and didn't know what I wanted to do with this model to change it up.  While staring at it I thought of why not a parrot.  To the web.

So, with some help from web photos and parrot colors, speed paints I present Melvin the Magnificent on his griffon, Polly.

Not sure you can see, but Melvin has an eye patch "crazy"

Next, another wee wizard to flush out my forces.  I intend to run Warmaster Revolution at a monthly meet at Little Big Wars, Fargo, ND, in April.  Will need extra characters for the multiple 1000 pt factions I'll bring.

The extra flames on this little folk help ID them on the battlefield.

OOoo, 4 skulls, 2x shoulder pads, hat and staff.

While finishing up the next reinforcement was a bag of Chariot Miniatures from Magister Militum.  These were purchased sometime in 2008.  I have used their brothers as knights and light cavalry for Warmaster.

Trapezilos, I'll have to work on the correct pronunciation.

I tried for bold shields to have them stand out at this scale.

While I have many projects on the shelves of opportunity I have seemingly run out of 10mm to paint.  I'll have to fix that problem.

I did have some bits and bobs around so decided to add to the mix.

Here are three more vampire counts characters from Forest Dragon.

Black Coach (15 skulls) Vampire Lord, Necromancer (2 skulls)

So fun with the skeleton coming out of the ground with the
magical mist swirling from the Necronomicon to the ground.

One bad ass vamp with a ruby ring

That looks to be it for me.  I do have a couple of small characters left, not sure if I'll get to them.

Thanks to all for looking and comments here and in the past.

It goes without saying, but during turbulent times this zone of hobby and positivity really does help keep one well.  Plus, this is the first I've had the time to open and listen to music some of the "younger" minions have offered.  Good for the soul.

Sylvain: I don't know what kind of magic there is in your paint brush, but you work on these 10mm figurines continue to amaze me. I love the shimmering colors you use to make your models stand out. All in all, a great project for us Challengers to follow. Bravissimo!
