From MarkO - Epic Orks and Guard (112 Points)

Epic Armageddon is a 6mm Scifi game (originally by Games Workshop) now grown by an international community of players, with a central resource site at www.net-armageddon.org.
There's plenty of game reports on my Hordes of the Things blog.

In recent years several 6mm Sci-fi companies have produced figures that make great units for the game, and mean that new players can get started easily. The following are 'Defeat in Detail Skinnerz', that I am using as Orks for Epic Armageddon.

These trucks are probably my favourite of the Skinnerz models so far. They come in packs of 4 with 4 different tops and 4 different wheel bases, so mixing them up you get 16 different ramshackle trucks.

For all these models I went with simple painting scheme. Undercoat black. Drybrush gunmetal, and then drybrush some silver. Paint some red bits, paint some white bits. Paint the crew and then wash the whole thing with Dark Tone ink from Army Painter. Pretty quick, which is what I want when I'm painting a lot of them!

I might add some brown wash later to rust up bits of them, as I notice the metal looks pretty pristine in these photos!

Next are Flame Vectors.

Huge fuel tank and flamethrower on tracks, what could go wrong?

And then super-heavies. Beasts (Battlefortresses) in the back row and Gunwagons in the front. I took the turrets off the Gunwagons and stuck them on the Beasts, and the top hatch from the Beasts and stuck them on the Gunwagons. Because I want to use the Gunwagons as Battlewagons (transports).

Here's all the Skinnerz (Orks) painted so far.

And lastly some Novan Light Walkers, that I will use as Sentinels with my Imperial Guard.

So that's 44 x 6mm vehicles, and 4 x super-heavy vehicles (which I'm guessing are the equivalent in size/scale to 3 normal vehicles in terms of points). So 112 points for the overall challenge and also for the 6mm Sci fi subchallenge!

Wow, that is an 'Epic' load of stuff!
(Crickets...)
Ahem, sorry, I'll move along now...

Wonderful work Mark! I like seeing figures from different manufacturers being used for the game. These are brilliant. The Army Painter dip method really does a nice job on these castings, and I'm sure helps keep the process moving along at a brisk rate. Very nice indeed.
112 Points. A great debut to this year's Challenge.

  1. Awesome work Mark :)

To give them a rusty look, before the washes try dry-sponging using a small piece of foam dunked into an orangey-brown paint.

    1. Or, as these are so teeny-tiny, maybe use an eyeshadow applicator (you can buy bags of them, or nab a spare one from a female friend or family member)

  2. Lovely stuff Mark! We live in a big truck infested town, and I'm pretty sure I've seen similar vehicles in the parking lot at Mallwart. Cheers, PD

  6. Well done Mark. Really interesting to see these figures - I have been looking at them in their online store, but have had a terrible experience with the service from the company in question.

    1. Cheers Greg, and sorry to hear you had a bad experience, though I wonder if that was with the previous owner of the range? The new owner at Vanguard purchased the range from him a few months back and has provided excellent service as far as I'm aware. If you do have any issues from Vanguard try raising them here: http://www.tacticalwargames.net/taccmd/viewtopic.php?f=93&t=30280

  10. Great job on these. It's nice to see that there are some new manufacturers for this game. I've been sorely tempted by the 6mm sci-fi stuff that's been turning up in this years challenge.
