Season X Duels!

Hail to the Esteemed Challengers of AHPC Season X!

Seasoned campaigners will be aware that side duels and challenges, along with the associated smack talk and ribbings, are all part of the AHPC fun.

In past years, a minion was been allocated to manage the gambling, track progress, declare winners and make an attempt to wipe up some of the blood afterwards. This year, that will not be the case. Just as submissions will be in a "free fire approach", so too will side duels be entirely free fire and unregulated.

The Duels Wallah is no more!

Instead, participants are encouraged to issue challenges and initiate side duels as they wish (as a comment to this thread or elsewhere as desired) and then track progress and brag as required in your submissions. This will bring challenges more mainstream rather than in a side page that only those interested frequent.

Good luck and let the proclamations and challenges commence!

So... who is up for a race to the X at the centre of Challenge Island?...   :-)

  1. Having never actually watched the challenge through this blog, had no idea this went on, but can't wait to watch the baiting commence ! This should be fun from a spectators point of view

  2. I'll enter the race to Point X

  3. Do any other expats want to do an expat challenge?

    1. What did you have in mind?

    2. Maybe along the lines of paint most points of troops from home / adopted country.

    3. That's a cool idea for a side duel, though I currently have precious little of either prepared to participate with. I'll see what I have in my stockpile. Count me in! For the record, my home country is England and my adopted country is Japan.

  4. Aah the demise of the infamous duel wallahs of Oz!

Ok how about the total points from paining tanks - the armoured fist challenge

    1. Or even a subset for the true 15mm #notatanker!

    2. Haha, good one Dave. I'm wondering if GregB would be in on an Iron Fist Challenge. That seems right in his wheelhouse.

    3. Hmmm...how small a scale could we go on this Dave?

      Delete
    4. And a further question - could we include AFVs, as in, vehicles without full tracks, but still with weapons that could knock out a tank...so something mounting an AT gun or AT missile system...

    5. Now we're getting down to the rivets and plate. :)

    6. Greg. I suggest overall any scale as the points for scale will come into play . And tracked vehicles with an offensive weapon I would say ...

As hump day minion I will have overall adjudication of a valid entry! It’s my challenge and I will rivet count as need be!

    7. Now there’s a voice of authority and good judgement!

    8. I agree with Gabby Johnson ...aka Peter Douglas. ...!

    9. I figure that you’re the best to administer this challenge and folks might actually listen to you. Plus it sounds like you’ll have to herd a bunch of rules lawyers and hair splitters. Better you than me mate.

    10. I did consider a Prettiest tank duel but let’s face it NickM will win that ... so I will apply a good old Soviet proverb... quantity has a quality all of its own!

    11. OK, Dave, I'm in, sounds like fun.

  5. Im in for the "Race to the X" - don't feel bad guys, there's nothing wrong with second place.

I'll also offer up my favorite nautical challenge.......

    1. Be warned Miles is a steamroller. I got my butt thoroughly kicked in a duel with him...tread carefully before challenging him to any duel

    2. Yes, challenging Miles is not for the faint hearted....if I remember correctly, I was beaten very, very narrowly in last years "keep ya' powder dry" duel ( very, very narrowly = 140 points vs 2200 points). I still owe you a figure for that as well Miles, I'll make it my first offering of challenge X.

  6. Without knowing all the rules and targets for the island yet, (hint, hint)...

I would like to propose the Challenge Island Safari Tour.
Sure, some people want to simply race to the top and burn out quickly, but I for one want to explore the island and see all that it has to offer. Sometimes it's nice to stop and smell the roses, avoid man-eating wildlife and risk life and limb on a madcap jaunt round an island packed full of all the craziness the AHPC veterans have accumulated over the years.

So, the Challenge Island Safari Tour isn't about who can paint the fastest, nor is it about who can paint the most (often the same individuals), it's about qualifying for as many areas on the Challenge map as possible. Simply grab a copy of the map, boot up some image editing software, cross off each location and post your updated map alongside your entries. Don't forget to tag your posts with 'Safari' to help keep track of your progress.
At the end of the challenge, we can compare maps, see who (if anyone) has visited every site and hopefully avoid any quicksand or poisonous flora along the way.

    Any takers?

    1. Great idea for a duel, Stuart! I may take you up on this one.

BTW we hope to have the final map and details on the locations ready for early next week.

    2. I really like this idea too Stuart, but need to see the map detail to see if I can realistically contend it

    3. I'd like to join this one too.

    4. Why not? It sounds suited to the caprices of shiny that often take a painter's fancy.

      I am in.

    5. Considering the heebejeebe stack of all sorts of things lying around... this one catches my fancy for sure!

    6. After last year's Squirrel challenge, I had intended to try and focus my efforts a bit more this year, so naturally I'm up for this! I'll be the one sinking in the quicksand I didn't see because I was distracted :)

    7. This sounds like fun - especially as we've no clue what we're letting ourselves in for!

    8. I like this one, count on me for the Island X Sightseen Tour organized by Campbells Traveling Co

  7. What about a general type challenge to all to complete entries in as many historical periods as possible - I remember some had this as a side challenge from last year? We could keep a note in our entry titles?

  8. I'll join the race to point X. Looking forward to the fun starting.

  9. I’m declaring the first annual Skully McSkullface prize. Fire up your Skullometers and track the number of Skullz you paint for the Challenge. Some Grimdark prize to the winner?

    1. Sounds fun!
Is there a sub category for the most skulls on a single model? :-)

  10. Squirel challenge again? Most periods/scales?

  11. Does anyone fancy a 'Sharp Practice' challenge? I'm thinking a force painted to play any period covered by the rules (Blackpowder era) , say around the 60 point mark. I'm hoping to get a British Penisular force done for 1809-10 period in this challenge. To keep me going, I'm suggesting a minimum 1 post every 3 weeks with a group shot in the final weeks, possibly a group vote with winner taking bragging rights!? Any takers?

    1. I accept your challenge. As I have aplan for a Sharp Practice ACW force for the challenge anyway.

    2. Excellent news Dave, hopefully this should keep me on track this time around....hopefully.

Are you painting Union or Confederates?

    3. I will be in that. I was planning to do a few Spanish guerillas etc so that could be fun.

    4. Welcome aboard slowpainter, this is turning in to a nice, little bunch. I look forward to see your painting.

    1. I can't wait to see them Dave, I painted a 10mm confederate army a couple of years back and I haven't been tempted back to paint any ACW.......yet.

  13. I always like to have my own wacky theme (or collection of loose excuses) for the Challenge. Last year it was the Vertically Challenged. This year I am attempting an ABC of gaming. A is for Archer, B is for Bavarian Infantry etc
Anyone else want to play the Alphabet Game?

  14. The dastardly Iannick having snuck in at the last minute and failing to inform me of such, he has duly been slapped with the metal gauntlet.

Our two designated champions shall meet in single combat, two individually based figures, with the Challengers deciding which champion shall triumph!
