On The Importance of Titles and Labels

"Good morning Ladies, Gentlemen...and Ray. No, no, no...please do not adjust your clocks. It is Monday, not Tuesday."

"You're obviously wondering why I am posting here today. Well, it's an administration post. Or a post following some administration I've been doing for Curt. You see, last night he asked me to check that his list of Curtgeld submissions was all correct and tickety-boo. An easy job, you might think. Sadly not, for a number of reasons."

"1. Not every Curtgeld submission post included the label "Curtgeld". In fact, only 21 of the 48 submissions did (possibly including the one from an individual who will simply be referred to as "Participant CC" to preserve his anonymity)."

"2. In a couple of cases non-Curtgeld entries for the Chambers of Challenge had been incorrectly been assigned Tithe points. There were a couple of cases where the reverse had happened or where the figure/model was for both but only one had been scored. The spreadsheet has now been corrected."

"3. The spreadsheet wasn't set up to record Curtgeld submissions very well, so I have had to correct that."

"4. I've also had to search back through all of the blog posts (a touch of 1100 submissions and countless minion/admin posts) to grab the URLs of Curtgeld entries and to try to spot any that have been missed. As you can imagine, that has taken me quite a few hours."

So, why are titles and labels important?

Post Titles

These can make it clear to the minion doing the scoring who the post is from and whether they are claiming any bonus points (eg for Chambers of Challenge or for Curtgeld)...

...but only if the poster includes those details.

This is why we request that for your submissions you write the titles in this format:

From TamsinP: 28mm WW2 Female German Sentry - The Guardroom - Curtgeld (45 points)

It also helps the minions if you put your name as it appears in the Points Roster (or the abbreviated form) - not everyone will be able to identify you from a nickname (eg. it took me a bit of a hunt to find out that "Codsticker" is RobP).

Labels

When writing your post, we do ask you to include labels. You will find the place to enter these in the right-hand sidebar when you are in the post editing window.

Labels we ask you to include are: your name (as per the roster or the abbreviation), the scale of the figures, the manufacturer, the period, any bonus claims, and any other useful information.

eg. TamsinP, WW2, 28mm, Wargames Foundry, WW2 Germans, Guardroom, Curtgeld, Sarah's Choice

Why are labels important? They might help with scoring (eg, if you haven't mentioned the figure scale in the title or text of the post), but primarily they assist with searching the blog

Using my example above, this allows someone to search for:

1. All of TamsinP's posts

2. All entries for the Guardroom

3. All entries that include a Curtgeld figure

4. All entries including a female figure for the Sarah's Choice prize.

So, if you think you might have missed some useful labels on your posts, you can always run a search for your label and edit them as appropriate. Oh, what's that? You haven't been including your name as a label? Well, I guess you'll just have to hope you can remember what you posted and when and scroll through the blog until you find them!

Toodle-pip until tomorrow!

Tamsin

Edited to Add:

If you do go back and mark a post as being Curtgeld (which hadn't originally been scored as Curtgeld), please, please, please, pretty please with ribbons and flowers on...please leave a comment below to let us know which post and which figure it is.

    1. Found it and updated the spreadsheet. You should see the Curtgeld points added when Greg updates the Roster later on.

    1. Ahh, yes. Curt can rely on me to not just do the minimum to get the job done, but to check, double check, send him a spreadsheet and then post a good-humoured "rant" on the blog. :)

    1. If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well. And then subtly shaming the folks who made it necessary to do the job! :)

  7. Hi Tamsin. I have now labelled my Greyscale 28mm WW1 German as Curtgeld (4 Jan 2021). Also wanted to note that as long as you've labelled your posts with your name, you can search your own name in the "Posts" section and all of your posts will pop up, if you need to add a label. Of course this assumes you've put your name *somewhere* in your post!
