From DaveD - 10mm US 19th Century Vignettes - (124 points )

was asked to make up a few vignette pieces using Pendraken castings with complete creativity  . So here are 4 Union and 4 Confederate. Plus 3 Plains Wars pieces.

Union

Not only have I painted these, I actually cast them up (well “working as part of the casting team at Pendraken “ has its benefits 😆 - it’s not work , it’s a wargames crack den.. )  From ingot to the table, it’s quite satisfying.

These are heading across to the USA shortly, if you are going to "Cold Wars" in Lancaster PA early February, pop by and see Leon and Adele at the Pendraken stand and they should be there.

CSA

Next a bit of Plains Wars action and the US Cavalry

10 figure and 4 prone , 1 prone horse
Guidon made from sticky label , cuts and painted .

Some mounted US Cavalry
Flag crafted from a sticky label , cut and painted .

Next a stand of mounted Native Indians

everything is 10mm:-

31 mounted =62

28 foot =28

5 prone =3

1 gun = 3

Total =96

Some really top-shelf work here Dave - as per usual! I'm sure folks who are able to pop over to "Cold Wars" will enjoy them even more in person. And I must second your recommendation for Pendraken - they are wonderful, and they make great miniatures! Have to say your results on the Plains War stuff in particular are really excellent.

You got to cast them too? Wow! What must that have been like? I would be a touch nervous about the whole process myself (I'm already a disaster building models, and I feel letting be anywhere near them being cast would be an undue public safety risk) but that must be an extra cool thing - as you say, from ingot to the table!

Finally, a quick question - was there any reason for the round bases? Are they intended for a particular game? Or was this the just the ideal way to have vignettes? It sure looks great!

As for points, you undercounted yourself a chunk - these are 10mm, and cav/guns are 3points a pip, so you come up with 124 points.

  3. @greg - casting is an interesting thing . The moulds are like women , as soon as you get used the them they charge the rules 😂 . Temperature in the workshop , metal fluidity etc, speed of casting machine , speed of pouring the metal . But it beats working for a living - it’s a wargames crack den .The bases were just a vignette creation to show them off , and I went for what looked nice .

  4. Those are awesome Dave. I too am a fan of Pendraken. That's cool that you got to cast them too. I'm pretty sure my missus wouldn't let me near molten metal.

  6. Beautifully painted Dave! The blue is stunning but the pick of the crop for me are your native americans. The horses are amazing.

  12. They are just so good Dave and you're such a good advert for Pendraken that you should tell Leon that he ought to take you with him to Cold Wars. Just brilliant, so well thought out

  13. Having seen the 10mm ranges close up in action on a demo table they are very attractive. They take me back to hinchcliffes very short experimentation with I think 12mm? That time I was too committed to 1/72 and that’s me 28mm and 15mm armies remain incomplete. However if I were to embark on a new scale for horse and musket 10mm definitely ticks the box. Also I think you can use “n” gauge railway scenery. While I would probably start with the Schleswig Holstein range these acw chaps are so tempting and wonderfully executed. Chapeau’s off!

    1. Yes I agree , I would go 10mm all in if I didn’t have so much 15mm WW2 , and yes you can easily use model railway scenery too
