First Entry from JuanM - Pulp Hero 'Abraham Washington' and Boromites from 'Beyond the Gates of Antares' (20 points)

Hello!
This year´s Challenge I expect to paint a main group of figures for a particular project and some others of the many figures I have awaiting their turn on my painting table.

And I have a 250 points "victory condition" to achieve...

Here is my first entry for The Challenge:

He is Abraham Washington going to work; a 28mm Pulp Figures miniatures I have painted to use in games of "Strange Aeons" or "Pulp Alley". Very nice figure, with a great quality. My first idea with him was to use a light grey undercoat, but I have returned to my old black Citadel undercoat.

I expect to paint some more of them during The Challenge.

Just finished this evening, a 28mm command group of the Boromites, one of the "ultra" factions of Mankind  that are part of the new Warlord Games´ SF ruleset, "Beyond the Gates of Antares".

I was part of the playtesting of the Alpha version of this ruleset, and I was not too pleased with it, nor with the miniatures, who have that Warlord Games "touch" of not being well finished. But they are SF miniatures of a very interesting concept.

Cheers!
From Curt:
A great debut entry Juan! Abraham Washington (love that name) looks to be a gritty, grimly resolved character, ready for some two-fisted Pulp adventure to be sure. The Boromites are great as well, though they have a name that somehow reminds me of a 1960's house cleaning product... Nonetheless, I really like their 'scaly, lumpy bits' and the bright orange terrain flock provides a perfect  terrain accent for the subject matter.

  5. First Boromites I've seen painted and I really like what you've done with them Juan. That's a great "skin" tone and the basing really makes them pop.

  8. Those Boromites are really rather nice, I've not seen many of these figures painted as I assumed the rules and figures were still in progress.

    Abe looks like trouble.....

    1. Yes, the rules are now in their Beta version, more detailed than the Alpha but still fighting against their "Bolt Action" heritage.

  9. I do like that pulp chappie, the Washington fellow though I shall keep my hand on my wallet at all times I converse with him.

The SF figures another form of humanity. Also well painted. I will be interested in seeing more of them.

  10. Good old 'Abe looks quite excellent and you've brought out the details on the Boromites rather well - the orange tufts are a fine touch.

    1. Very nice work. Mr. Abraham Washington looks like a man to be reckoned with. Never had a look at that Antares stuff but your fine fellas look great. I especially like the orange touch on the bases.

  13. Well done Juan - those Boromite figures don't really work for me, but you did a great job with them. And Mr. Washington is fabulous.

  14. Great job on all of them. The bright eyes on the Boromites draws me in. I feel your pain on Warlord metals. So much clean up required on them. cheers

    1. Yes, a lot of clearing work; this is a problem they have in all their figures, something that must be corrected, I think.

  15. Abraham W is SUCH a nice figure! I really love the subtleties about him, especially the shading of the pants and shirt, and the skin tone is bang on. He has a badass Samuel Jackson vibe to him, I am sure he could take down those Boromites with just that spade.
Well done, looking forward to your next entries!

  17. Sorry to hear those Boromites weren't quite up to snuff, sculpting-wise. I honestly couldn't tell from the pictures, as you really did a great job on them.

It's remarkable how much character oozes from Mr. Washington for such a simple pose and color palette.

  18. Mr Washington looks like a grumpy figure, which I wouldn't like to argue with! The Boromites don't look the easiest figures to me! But they look awesome!
