All the figures are from Black Tree Design. Although the number of poses is a bit limited I like these figures a lot. The faces in particular are very nicely defined and easy to paint.
As always, the shields are hand painted. 'Shield decals!' he scoffed.
The spears are harvested from my trusty broom. For those interested in making broom bristle spears, there is a little tutorial on my blog.
Next up are four noble figures. I particularly like the guy in mail.
Tamsin and I are trading heavy blows at the moment in our race to 1500 points. This lot should give me another 60 points.
From Curt:
Ooh, pretty shields (and with your 'decal' comment you've just volunteered to do my Roman shields, smart@ss)! Awesome work Dux and I appreciate the link you provided to your brilliant spear-harvesting tutorial. (I'm off to the local DIY store after I write this...). These Black Tree castings are brilliant - I especially like how you've painted the exposed faces. Very characterful (and not one looks like Bob Dylan which is a bonus). :)
These chaps will give Alan a base of 60 points but I'm adding a few more for the more over-the-top hand painted designs. Great work!
They are lovely - always been tempted by an Arab army. Extra good work on the shields.
ReplyDeleteCracking stuff.. Yeah shield transfer pah! When you do them this well who needs them...
ReplyDeleteOh, shut up!
DeleteYeah yeah... Did you never make Airfix stuff as lad...!!
DeleteThat trick with the broom is brilliant! Great work
ReplyDeleteHmmm, do you have 88 points hiding in the queue Alan? If so, you might manage to regain the lead over me ;)
ReplyDeleteLovely work on these Saracens. I think I might have an idea for what my prize for winning our side-bet should be :)
Well, I do have Thor over in the Bonus Round, who should narrow the gap a bit more for me.... But it would be an honour to paint something up for you, so I win either way! :)
DeleteGreat work on those shields, I'm going to have to give the broom trick a try.
ReplyDeleteLooking nice! Really nice work on the shields.
ReplyDeleteChristopher
Superb work on the shields
ReplyDeleteThis is excellent - as others has said, the shields in particular are outstanding.
ReplyDeleteNot only do you have mad shield painting skills, but the eyes on these figures are awesome! I've rarely seen eyes painted on 28mm where each eye isn't looking in a differrent direction. It's usually a case of "yeah...nah" The eyes on these guys look completely natural, though. Excellent work, Dux!
ReplyDeleteThanks Monsieur! I reckon people overdo eyes. I find just applying a dot of white and then a tiny brown dot looks pretty realistic.
DeleteGreat figures - especially the shields are really top-notch!
ReplyDelete@ Curt - OK, if you win our side bet I'll paint your Roman shields for you.
ReplyDeleteTop work. Love the eyes, have my own eye traumas.
ReplyDeleteExcellent work. Fine work on the shields. cheers
ReplyDeleteAs I don't like SAGA I know I will not like "Cross and Crescent". But that does not stop me liking these. I must comment on your figure variety. I think you have done a sterling job of making them all look as different as possible.
ReplyDeleteI am also a fan of Black Tree and you have done them well.
ReplyDeleteI love the shields
Ian
I love the palette you're using for this Saracen project. Once again, the shields are glorious.
ReplyDeleteThey are brilliant. The faces have so much character and the shields are gobsmacking. I may steal some of those designs for some Ottomans I hope to do later in the Challenge. Bravo, DH!
ReplyDeleteVery nice painting work!
ReplyDeleteI really like all of the shield work on these guys. It's nice that they are all in a variety of colours, unlike you would get if you did use decals.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant. Love 'em!
ReplyDeleteSuperb work, you gotta love them shields!
ReplyDeleteThese fellows are awesome! The shields are grand and they all look great together! I too really like your mailed noble..I like the mob! ;)
