From PaulS - This is not a number, it's another Christmas present! (10 Points)

As I mentioned in the Ghostbusters post, I painted up a few sets of figures for friends this year and they seem to have been very well received. The other set completed on time were Number 2 and Number 6 from 'The Prisoner'.

The figures are, again, from Crooked Dice... possibly my favorite gaming company. The sculpts are nice and clean, with plenty of character that brings the models alive.

Unfortunately I had an accident with the spray varnish as it misted up. Thankfully a coat of hand painted gloss varnish managed to fix the problem... but I didn't have any flatter varnishes to take the shine off the models... hence the photos being a bit dark to counter this.

This should be another 10 points I believe?

From Curt:Great work Paul! I really liked this series when it was out - it was just so wonderfully strange! Issues with the spray varnish aside I think  you've done a wonderful job on #2 and 6 (2's scarf is ace! and I love their shoes).
Now, who's going to do some stuff from 'Space 1999'?

  1. Really nice! I,m very tempted to take advantage of CrookedDice's sale.

As the lucky owner of some PaulS pieces, I can assure everything is nice close up too! :-D

  4. Loved that show! Really grand models and the scarf is great!

@ Curt. I'd love to just own some of Dinky 'Eagles ', but the prices are extrordinary! I'll have to search for comparable figures. Perhaps somebody will make some soon!? ;)

    1. Oh man, those were soooo cool, eh? Even when they first came out they were freakin' expensive. Did you ever see the model of the entire moonbase Alpha? That was sweet as well...

    2. I never seen the moonbase, but I did have the "MenofAction" Eagle play set. About 4' of space ship with detachable cockpit and engine pods plus grappling/rappelling hook and full weapons rack and four action figures in iconic orange space suits.....still smile when I see what is left of it. My son uses it as a Gijoe/superhero base! ;)

  5. "I am not a number! I am a free 28mm figure!" Really top stuff there, Paul, packed with detail and nostalgia value!

@Curt, please don't open the Pandora's Box of "Space:1999" - Millsy will get another rush of inspiration and scratch-build something, it's his pop culture Achilles' heel!
    ; )

  6. They don't do Space 1999 (yet), but they do do Blake's 7 if that's close enough? ;)

  8. Ooh, I think I just found my Dad's next birthday present--this is one of his favorite shows (he has the whole series on DVD).

And nice save from the misty spray of doom!

  9. Marvelous paintwork on jewels!
one of my favourite series, perhaps the favourite in fact.
I listened the intro of the prisoner on my mobile phone when I was in London in October ( totally freaky !!!).

    Be seeing you;)

  10. While I never got into the TV show (I can hear the shouts calling me a heretic from here) I do appreciate the figures . Bloody good job you have done as well.

  11. I've never bothered with this kind of TV shows (I've never seen Dr. Who as well) but I really like your efforts on these two chaps.

  12. Excellent work, these look brilliant.

Also, I often wondered what those miniatures were referencing. Cheers for the answer.

  14. Nice to see something out of the ordinary. A great show and I wasn't aware miniatures were being produced for it. You've done a cracking job too, the faces are wonderful!

  15. This is one old school SF show I've never watched. I must amend that.
Oddly, in light of the Space 1999 chatter, the Missus and I spent the holidays going through our 1999 DVD box set. Season 1, of course. It's hard to watch Season 2 and see how they ruined it.

  16. PS - forgot to say how nice these figures turned out, well done.
