From DavidB - Something Big - 54mm 40K (50 Points)

So, a few weeks ago I found these fellows while spelunking for the rest of Blue Platoon. I really do not remember how I got them, I just recall that I shelved them as I did not like how my conversion of the Sgt Stone model went. It wasn't the whole conversion, but how I couldn't match up his hands in proportion.

I'll add the 7th insignia later after I get more ink for my rapidiograph pens. Sgt Stone was an impressive model(I have another to build stock) and I matched him up with a cyborg head from the guard bits that were also used extensively with these models. He is the command squads scout and has multiple knives, a warclub, and lasgun.

I used the gasmask head and backpack for the melta gun conversion of Sgt Dorian Black.

Any time you carry some special weapon in the military, you also get to carry all kinds of other special stuff...it probably started with the Romans! ;)

Sgt Black got the pointing arm swap from Major Jaxom. His knife came from the butchered Sgt Stone model. Major Jaxom got another arm and a hand swap for the inferno pistol. he also got the spiked power maul to keep the lads in line.

The trooper with the lasgun was converted from the other Major Jaxom model. But had the other Sgt Stone knife added and selected bits from the guard accessory bits.

I do have the Inquisitor rulebook, but I never played it with the 54mm figures, we just used our 40k stuff which we have a lot of. They are really nice models, but I have very recently discovered that they are very hard to find and very expensive. These fellows will probably just hang out in my display case as they are very fine sculpts, but have no foes.

I went with the red shoulder pads as the Major shares the same style patrol cap as Red Platoons leader(the col Schaffer model)

I did the piping on their body armor in blue to denote Infantry, The yellow cuffs denote command squad. Perhaps I should source some Cadian styled stuff to represent the 7th in epic scale.

"Run Away! Giants!"

a preview of the next submission and a scale indicator...

a note to Curt- I cannot take credit for the flock on these fellows as my 13yr old daughter did them while I flocked the other stuff, she really wanted to help. All the brushwork is mine. Also Nobody selected my challenge of including Native Americans in their forces...Here be another tribesman you cowards! ;)

From Curt:

Wow, I haven't seen these Inquisitor models for years - awesome! I can't imagine the price they must command on eBay these days. Yikes.

You did a great job on them David (and so did your daughter with the groundwork). The Native American indian conversion is suitably ferocious. Also, I really like the Union cavalry uniform colours you gave them - they just need a yellow trouser stripe and a blonde, long-haired officer to properly send them off to their doom.

  1. Nice figures David - great to have some big boys making an appearance in the Challenge :)

    1. They almost didn't make it! I stumbled across them looking for missing 28's and was inspired to paint them. Course painting them was bouncing between 28, 15, and 54mm....I nearly went crosseyed! ;)

    1. Thanks, Ian! I still have an Inquisitor, marine, and one more guardsman to build, but I'm quite finished with pinning for the while! ;)

  3. Very nice figures. I have also some Inquisitor models, and they are fantastic miniatures, but too big for a game, I think. In the end, I played too with 28mm models.

    1. Thank you, Juan! The whole line was very good, but the game is still a very good match for 28's and the 28's are much more diverse!

  4. That is so sweet that your daughter is taking part in the hobby. Good on you for passing the addiction down to the next generation!

    Lovely work here!

  5. Thank you ,Anne! My girl's do have me tightly wound around tiny fingers. It is great they still like to spend their time with Dad....and I don't have to play dressup for tea anymore! ;)

  6. Thank you, Curt! Kolleen is chuffed for the praise of the basing! ;) You really don't want to know how much the Inquisitor models are selling for now! One 54mm model or three plus new boxes of Perry Plastics. Hmmmm...

    1. Thanks! There are 3-4 models I'd still like to get, but the resale for these is expensive. They are nice in the subdued skull and spikes too! ;)

  8. I never got into "Inquisitor" looking at these I feel it may be my loss. Very nice indeed. BTW we want your daughter to have her own points tally in next year Challenge!

    1. Thank you, Clint! I'd probably have to form them in their own team, so they could get some decent points! Then I can subject the rest of you all to marines in pink/purple camouflage! ;)

  9. Wow! What a neat submission. I didn't think people had these Inquisitor figures any more. I find the larger Cadian figures have a much nicer look and proportion than the "regular 28mm" plastic Cadians from GW.

    Well done - very cool.

  10. Thank you, Greg! I actually got these and extras just to use my Cadians in Inquisitor, but the fellas mostly abandoned it after one of them banged on about doing it..." 40k necromundia style". At least we all got the books, but mostly just used our 28mm instead.
I like the proportion of the figures and the more subdued skullz on them. I still have the marine to build and he is really massive as a genetic super soldier should be!
